Rating: Summary: The Prince of Tides is the best novel Conroy has written. Review: I have read all of Conroy's novels, and The Prince of Tides is the best, followed by The Lords of Discipline. The Prince of Tides hits you on so many levels, it is so vivid and real. One of my favorite moments is when the mother ushers in the moon for the Wingo kids - marvelous! The movie leaves out the title character and is way off base. I think the book would be better served by a miniseries.
Rating: Summary: Great Novel Review: A must read,I loved this book.If you've seen the movie you'll love the book even more.It has to be the best book I have ever read.Oh yeah like my screen name?
Rating: Summary: powerful and moving Review: Conroy's Prince of Tides captured the trials that a family can experience. His use of words and style added to the beauty that is described throughout the book. An excellent read that cannot be put down.
Rating: Summary: One of the most gifted authors of this century Review: Without a doubt, my favorite novel ever. Every few years, I pull this book off my shelf and experience it all over again. Pat Conroy is a genius of the english language, and has an unmatched ability to convey emotions. I have yet to read it and not cry. One of the most magnificent books about the South ever written. That desecration of a movie doesn't even begin to do it justice.
Rating: Summary: Simply magnificent Review: This is a rich and complex novel which pulls you in to the lives of the characters in a way which so few other novels do. I have read it several times but somehow I have never made it through the last chapter without tears in my eyes - but they are tears almost of relief and happiness for the character Tom, who is healed as the book progresses. It is a beautiful book, and one you should embrace whole heartedly.
Rating: Summary: Soul-stirring novel opens your eyes to the South Review: It was wonderful- I have read Prince two times now and it is just one of those novels that you can't put down. Luke and Lila were the main characters to me, rather than Tom and his sister. Their depictions were soul-stirring and moving. A fabulous read for those who are close to their siblings.
Rating: Summary: Much better than the movie!! Review: The book is wonderful & I hated the movie. Luke is barely mentioned in the movie & to me, he was the entire soul of the story...the catalyst that set everything into motion. Read the book & forget the movie
Rating: Summary: Quite simply the best novel I have ever read Review: I begin with a plea: For those of you unlucky enough to see the abysmal, horrid film with the same name, rest assured that the film and the novel only remotely have even the same plot. Thank God, too, that Streishand had nothing to do with the writing of this most wonderful book. This is a relief to humanity. The novel is primarily about the sometimes rocky coming of age -- in the lush Carolina lowlands -- of the three children (unlike the film, it is only peripherally about the romance between Tom and Lowenstein). Most immediately, it is absolutely exquisitely written. Conroy's language and dialogue are as pleaasureable and stimulating to read as any other I've ever encountered. The book will literally have tears of laughter running down your face, especially in the earlier chapters when Tom interacts with his own children. By the end your soul will have been profoundly stirred and your life literally, inexorably changed. Read this book.
Rating: Summary: Very moving, wonderful book Review: I loved this book. It is excellent the way conroy uses words to describe things. A book you must read.
Rating: Summary: Time does not let us escape the emotions this novel evokes Review: Simply put, my mother will no longer touch Prince of Tides. Her life experiences are so close to the characters that she merely chooses to live in the present and hope that the past can park itself in our souls.
