Rating: Summary: Good read, not as funny as "Good in Bed" Review: This is a very good read, and once you start reading you can't put the book down. However, it is not funny like "Good in Bed", which I loved.
Rating: Summary: In her shoes... a must read! Review: I adored this book. Yet it wasn't a 5 star book, only because it wasn't quite as good as Jennifer Weiner's first book "Good in Bed". I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They were fun, and realisitic. I love the way Jennifer writes, and her books are so damn funny! I recommend this book to anyone looking for a lighthearted easy read that will make you laugh!
Rating: Summary: absolutely fabulous Review: wonderful novel. Easy read. I couldnt put it down. fabulous ending gave me goosebumps! A must-read!
Rating: Summary: In Her Snooze Review: This book was well-written, but a disappointing read. I never got a sense of the pain felt by Rose and Maggie over losing their mother. I found it unrealistic that their grandmother would have not made more attempts to stay in contact with her grandchildren. And I found the details of the main conflict between the two sisters - cheating with the other's boyfriend - ridiculous. If a guy were to sleep with his girlfriend's sister in that sister's apartment when he knows that his girlfriend is on the way home, it would be a quickie session that didn't involve taking off clothes and lingering in bed. I also find it hard to believe that a woman obsessed with shoes would own a pair of Payless shoes.
Rating: Summary: In My Shoes Review: Jennifer Weiner has done it again! Her second novel is a must read and a keeper in my collection of "deep-chic-reads"! This book is far from fuffy...Weiner takes the reader on a journey into the lives of Rose & Maggie, two sisters who are nothing alike. Maggie, the young beautiful sister, reaches into your soul for compassion as she searches for acceptance and understanding. After each "stupid" decision she made, I couldn't help but feel a bit of sympathy for her. From Maggie's self-reliant trip to Princeton, to her identity search to meet her long-lost grandmother Ella, and to her return home...Maggie captured my heart. Rose, the older and wiser sister, is the typical lawyer who gives up the corporate world, after practicing "risky business" with a colleague. Rose is also one who is constantly trying to pick up after the mistakes that Maggie makes...until Maggie makes the ultimate mistake that tares the sisters apart. Will Maggie be forgiven? These sisters, with the only connection being blood lines and the same shoe size, will surely allow you to escape into their world.
Rating: Summary: Loved every word! Review: I know that many people liked Good in Bed better than this book, but I just loved it! I loved the different kinds of characters that were present in this book and I love the dynamic between them! While I related to Cammie better than Rose, I still loved the book. And, again, she touched on the fragile relationships in Jewish families so well!! Great!!!
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This was such a good book. I love how you get to see the two sisters grow and find their niche in the world, and also to come to appreciate each other. Although I must admit there were a couple of times where I just wanted to jump in the book and strangle Maggie. Jennifer Weiner makes you so angry at Maggie, but then little by little makes you feel sorry for her. I also like how the author slowly reveals details, such as what happened to their mother, who Ella is, and why Ella is estranged from her grand-daughters.Since this is Jennifer Weiner's second book it is hard not to compare it to GOOD IN BED. There are some similarities, especially between Cannie and Rose. For instance, both women are overweight, both women are "in love" with one man, while the real "Mr. Right" waits on the sidelines, and both women eventually come to appreciate themselves without having to lose weight. They also both have wacky sisters. I also have to mention that I found Maggie's adventure at Princeton fascinating. Although I didn't like it as much as GOOD IN BED, it came very close and was a very enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: Just Wonderful! Review: Meet Rose and Maggie Feller. Two sisters that are two years -- and oceans apart. Rose, the elder, is a lawyer, a bit zaftig, and who could care less about fashion and style -- except when it comes to footwear. Maggie is implusive, spendthrift, thieving and yet -- she has a certain charm to her as she weasels her way through life, ripping off people and not above doing the same to her own family. Maggie turning up blind drunk and having torrid sex at her ten year class reunion is where the novel opens. Poor Rose is the one who gets to pick up the pieces after Maggie's latest stunt. For anyone of us who have dealt with this sort of roommate/relative, it's bad news from the start. Not only does Maggie trash her sister's apartment, destroy shoes (the sister's share a shoe size), and finally does the unthinkable. Rose reacts (and justly, in my opinion) by throwing Maggie out. And this is where the novel goes beyond interesting, watching as the two sisters reassemble their lives -- Rose learns to let go a little, Maggie learns responsibility. Interwined with this pair are a varied cast of subcharacters, including the rest of the family, father Michael, and Sydelle the Stepmonster, and Ella, who along with Mrs Lifkovitz is the missing tie that assembles the novel by the end. While the men aren't much here (only Simon Stein, a co-worker of Rose's, and a fellow retiree of Ella's are at all likeable), Weiner's characters and settings are lively, fun and ring true in our modern world. She'll also make you laugh as we see little reflections of ourselves throughout the book. The other thing I really enjoyed was the fact that this novel was about survival, whether it's from breaking up in a relationship, or family fights, or a job. What's fun is that the author's writing style is snappy and breezy, as though you were sitting and listening to a particularly delicious -- and maybe just a bit scandalous -- story from one of your girlfriends. While the author jumps around a bit, she doesn't beat the hell out of a topic or scene, just keeps it moving nicely along to a lovely ending. So, if you want some relief from incessant bad news, the current bestseller lists, too much tv, why not brew up a pot of your favorite coffee or tea and settle in with this one? It's guaranteed to make you smile, and give several hours of relief. I purchased this book through Amazon.com right after another great purchase, THE LOSERS' CLUB by Richard Perez, about an unlucky writer addicted to the personals. Both are fun, recommended books. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Reading Review: Jennifer Weiner is a very skilled author. Her writings touch the reader on a very personal level. The tales of Rose, Maggie and Ella are woven together with a master's touch. I highly recommend Jennifer Weiner's novel "Good in Bed" in addition to "In Her Shoes".
Rating: Summary: Weiner continues with great chick lit Review: If you loved Good in Bed, this book won't be a disappointment. Weiner continues to charm us with great chick lit! If you aren't convinced, pick up the book, open it to the first chapter and just TRY to stop reading after the first three paragraphs.
