Rating: Summary: Excellent!!! Review: If you read and liked The Divine Secrets of the YaYa Sisterhood, you'll LOVE Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons. You'll 'live' in this book. I felt part of the book club and LOVED the way it's written in the first person of each of the 5 ladies involved. Simply wonderful!
Rating: Summary: I WISH I LIVED ON THEIR STREET! Review: I loved this book. What can I say I'm a sap when it comes to dramatic fiction. This book is like a Lifetime Movie only it lasts a lot longer. As I got toward the end of the book I found myself slowing down because I didn't want to give up the friends that I felt I'd made with all of the characters. Being a 35 year old woman, mother of 3, who loves to read I really could get into these characters minds as though I was a member of their book club! This book will be highly recommended to all of my friends.....even though, unfortunately, we've not started a book club......yet!
Rating: Summary: A little light reading Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Angry Housewives Eating BonBons. I laughed and cried (a beloved dog dying gets me) at various times. It's certainly not groundbreaking in any respect, but a very nice feel-good book that is perfect for rainy, cheerless days. It's about family and friends and books- much less pretentious than similar books (e.g. An Elegant Gathering of White Snows, which was also a novel about a book group.) This one was just so much more satisfying- and I didn't feel each time a less than new character/plot twist was introduced "oh yeah, it must be the obligatory (insert pregnancy, sickness, heartbreak of children or divorce) time" as I have with others in this light "women's" book genre. Not great literature, but a nice diversion.
Rating: Summary: To have friends like these.... Review: As a member of a book club, I loved the intros to each chapter, plus it gave me new ideas for books I haven't read. But what I really loved, was the relationships these five very different women have. I only wish I had FIVE women that I could count on like these characters did. I think every woman, whether or not they will admit it, would love to have a group of friends with staying power that you felt free enough to be honest with each other and enjoy the other's company. I truly enjoyed this book, it was funny, heart-warming, but did not shrink away from the ugly things in life.
Rating: Summary: With a little help from my friends....... Review: If you've ever had a close group of girlfriends you will be able to identify with parts of this book and certain aspects of any given character. A quick read, full of love, laughter, tears, sorrow, secrets, but most of all, the unbreakable bond of "true" friendship. We should all be so lucky as to have friends like these.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: This book is a complete waste of time. The characters are not well developed and the plot choppy. I stopped reading after 150 pages. The premise sounded intriguing as the chapters are distinguished by whose house the women are meeting in for a book group and also by the book they are reading but other than the cleverness of this device, there are unfortunately no reasons to recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: The YaYas go to the North Woods? Uffda! Review: Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons is a delightful and inspirational chronicle of the Freesia Court neighborhood Book Club: the reading list is well worth the price of the book, but the unfolding of their friendships through three decades of family life is a rocky, joyous, richly layered, sometimes tearful ride. Well written with believable characters and a lovely sense of place. If the YaYas were to go the North Woods they would throughly enjoy the Angry Housewives! Uffda! Mamalinda
Rating: Summary: Absolutely one of the BEST BOOKS I have ever read Review: I never wanted this book to end. A book club that endures for more than 30 years. All of these women were so unique from each other and formed such a solid bond. Every woman should be so lucky. This book was wonderful. I laughed and truely sobbed while reading this book. It was such a great experience. I could hardly put this book down. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I literally judged this book by it's cover, I loved the women in the pool with the big colorful hats. I was not sorry. These women really loved each other. They had their spats and disagreements but they always loved each other no matter what. Lorna Landvik is one of the best writers around. I have read a couple of her other books but this is my favorite. I can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: ~Fair to Midlin'~ Review: I was attracted to this book by its catchy title and the premise of women involved in a book club. The story centers around a group of women who live on the same street Fressia Court, who form a book club and meet monthly to discuss the books they have chosen to read. The book covers 30 years in the lives of these women and hits many time sensitive issues of each period they are in, the Vietnam War, protesting, disco, etc. We become involved with thier lives and thier marriages and children. This was not a bad book just not a spectacular book. It had the potential to be SO much more !! I kept waiting, and waiting and waiting... for SOMETHING to happen !! In a 30 year span so much more could have been intertwined in the story to make more happen and make it more interesting. In the last 100 pages I found myself trying to rush through to the end just so I could get it over with and start another book. It was a fast, easy read and I did enjoy ...but...I just did not like it enough to recommend it to my friends who read.
Rating: Summary: outstanding book, worth the length - LOVED it. Review: This is a great book for anyone who enjoys reading and truly values their friendships - great vacation read. Really loved all of the characters and their development. Can't recommend it enough! Enjoy - great for book clubs!
