Rating: Summary: BROTHERS AND SISTERS Review: BROTHERS AND SISTERS is an excellent book with a beautiful, thought-provoking cover. The main character, Esther, walks a fine line to maintain respect and professionism as an African American bank manager, working in a predominantly white bank. She must must make several choices between colorless friendship and Black loyalty and between haves and have nots. In her personal life, she must make the choice between white-collar and blue-collar love. BROTHERS AND SISTERS shows the deceitful routes some people will take to reach their goal, not caring who is run over. This book also looks at how little things have changed between the races and the sexes, but in contrast, it shows rarely-seen truiumph over injustice. The well-rounded cast of characters make this book realistic and believable. Bebe Moore Campbell is a very good writer.

Rating: Summary: An entertaining and insightful book Review: Campbell goes beyond the slogans and prejudices to tell the story of two women - one black, one white - trying to forge a genuine friendship in the aftermath of the L.A. riots. Their different interpretations of situations and even words are depicted with compassion and a great deal of humor as they try to find common ground. Even when they clash, we can understand where each is coming from.As if navigating the waters of racial sensitivity weren't daunting enough, the characters are also faced with tough choices about career, dating, family, office politics and other ethical dilemmas that often seem to demand conflicting solutions. There are lots of other well-drawn characters, some with good intentions, some with bad and some caught up in a confusion of both. Who would have thought a book about people who work in a bank could be so suspenseful and rewarding?
Rating: Summary: Campbell's Brothers & Siters is a 'can not put down book.' Review: Campbell's Brothers and Sisters is a great book, it depicts the relationships between blacks and whites at a very heated time: the Rodney King riot. This book raises many issues that the American people today must face and overcome..... I truly enjoyed
this book and I found that it is very hard to put down. I recommend this book to everyone who can read and understand literature, in other
words this book is a must read book for everyone!!

I bought this book in hardcover the day it was published. I have read this book 4 times over the years and I am sure I will read it again. There are alot of messages in this book. I love a good book that really makes you think. Everytime I read this book I get something more out of it. I highly recommend this book. I also bought Singin in the Comeback Choir the day it was published and I am eagerly awaiting Ms. Moore's next book. Please don't keep me waiting long!!!
Rating: Summary: She's one of the few writers who tackles racial ambivalence. Review: I enjoy Bebe Moore Campbell because she examines the ambivalence, not only in friendships between blacks and whites, but in individual black and white people regarding their racial identities. And she comes at these subjects from all directions: love, friendship, work, current social and political crises. I also read "What You Owe Me" and found it to be fascinating as well, and hard to put down once the ball gets rolling. "Brothers and Sisters" is a juicy soap opera and cocktail - a true mix of varying characters examined from without AND within. However, sometimes the writing fell down - phrases and ideas were blatantly repeated, and now and then a sentence or word just sort of hung there, as if it didn't belong. Also - in this book the author tied things up a bit too neatly, and suddenly, at the end, as if she knew she could only write so much that would be published...and she was probably right. Still - I would highly recommend this book for an understanding of racial interactions between Brothers and Sisters.
Rating: Summary: An interesting read Review: I enjoyed this book for the most part, even though the main character irked me. She was a bit too snobby for my taste, and the issues of race got tiring after awhile. But overall, I really liked this book; I stayed up all night to finish it, and the ending was pretty satisfying. The book teaches one to examine what keeps people from other races from being friends. But I thought Esther took things too personally. She thought everything had to do with race. Sometimes you just have to ignore the ignorant.
Rating: Summary: An intriguing plot that offers many points of view. Review: I extremely enjoyed this novel because it gave an insider look into the minds of every character involved in the plot. The plot deals with alot of racial tension and you find yourself identifying with all races involved. I love the way the plot revolves around a historical event (the L.A riots) which is similar to "Your Blues..." However, I was dissappointed in the ending.
