Rating: Summary: Engaging Debut Review: Ciara Wimby's debut novel is engaging, fast paced and "Off The Hook". It captures your attention from page one until the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever had relationship drama ... well, I guess that's everybody, who hasn't had drama in a relationship at one time or another?

Rating: Summary: Some of us have been there and done that Review: How many of us young or older don't know a Karen, or on some level have even been in her shoes? "Off the Hook" is very real. For every college graduate starting life in the real world, there is an established sista just as confused as Karen when it comes to love, life, and their well being.Karen made mistakes as well as some questionable choices, but she had family and very close friends to pull her through it all. Whenever anyone has issues, the first rule of thumb is to talk about it - Karen did that, her family, Nicole, and Jasmine were part of her comfort zone. She listen to different opinions from different personalities, but what she didn't do was see a stranger, a THERAPIST. Who knows you better than any therapist? Those close to you, those you love and most of all who knows and love you better than any therapist. Family and friends that stick together no matter what the drama, are very rich. It doesn't get better than that. This is a must read.

Rating: Summary: A really fun read. Review: I could not put this book down! The plot twists kept me on my toes from beginning to end. I read it in one day. Karen is a trip! Someone needs to purchase the film rights to this book.
Rating: Summary: Good Debut Novel Review: I think that "Off The Hook" is a good story about the very common experiences of young, black women and their inability to make sound decisions for various reasons. Ms. Wimby has done a great job in making the situations that happen in the book seem real with catchy dialogue and expressive scenes throughout the novel. However, I do feel that Ciara could have cut down on the use of "proper grammar" in areas of conversation where it really wasn't called for. For example, substituting "they're" for "they are" in a character's dialogue. The story was well thought out and planned, however, it did lend itself to just a bit of predictability. I basically knew the outcome of each character's situation before I turned the page. Overall, I feel that Ciara Wimby's debut novel was very well written and I'm looking forward to her next novel. More importantly, I'm looking forward to supporting the efforts of a young, black writer.

Rating: Summary: MAN PROBLEMS GALORE Review: Just when you thought you had read about all the sistas having man problems in the world, along comes Karen who is torn between two men. Karen is a recent college graduate, at least she thinks she is, when she moves to Chicago to live with Steven. The only problem is that she still have confused feelings for Christopher, a man she dated during her college years as well. All of her sisterfriends have their two cents to throw into her delicate dilemma and ultimately, Karen makes the choice only a "youthful female" would make: the wrong choice. Off the Hook was a cute little novel but there is nothing special about it and it doesn't really cover anything that hasn't been covered before in numerous novels that came before it. With the great title, I was expecting some "off the hook" action and dialogue but it never seemed to appear. Teenage and college age females might enjoy the novel since the main characters do hang out in clubs and make immature, uninformed decisions throughout the novel that leave them all in dire straits. The main character shows little growth during the time span covered. It would have been nice to see her come to her senses at some point. However, when it is all over and said and done, she seems to have finally made up her mind about what she wants and who she wants it from. The only problem is, as a reader, will you really even care?
