Rating: Summary: Outlaw In Paradise Review: Caddie McGill is a saloon owner with big dreams and a bigger heart. For years she has battled the man who wants to control the town, appropriately named Mr. Wyle, for control of her gold mine. Though it has ostensibly played out, it is hers, and she wants to keep it; more importantly, to keep her enemy from having it. However, Caddie is up against a foe who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Then, notorious gunfighter Jesse Gault enters town. With a legend that proeceeds him, Gault finds that people are willing to do whatever it takes to please him and to keep their lives. Only the lovely saloon owner appears unintimidated by him and the potential danger he poses. Despite this, he is attracted to her. Though she hates to admit it, even to herself, for men have treated her badly all her life, Caddie feels something for Gault. There is much more to this gunfighter than meets the eye, and as he makes a place in the town for himself, Jesse finds his way into Caddie's heart. When his secret is revealed, will he continue to have her love, or even to live? ***** Humor and romance combine to give this novel a touch that is reminescent of the James Garner SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL.... duet of movies. A spunky heroine, ordinary guy hiding behind a larger than life image, colorful townsfolk, and a comedic surprise twist make this a light novel that many will find easily enjoyable, especially when it is spiced up with very hot love scenes. ***** Reviewed by Amanda Killgore.
Rating: Summary: Fooled by the cover Review: Darned if I didn't get fooled by a cover.
I picked up a plain looking book, with a picture of a house and a white picket fence, by a New York Times bestselling author, and began to read it. What can I say? I was desperate with nothing to read, and it looked like the sort of cover to inspire a light tale with a roguish male lead, set in some lovely place with a view of the mountains and a flower garden.
Having read it, I can say that it at least twice as long as it should be, a few bullets short of being a western, a few embraces short of being a romance, and a few descriptions short of being either rapturous or tempestuous.
Looking at the new cover on Amazon, I see a Playgirl centerfold-type bare chested cowboy, with six-pack abs and protruding pecs - clearly not the lanky, hairy chested wanna-be bad guy I just read about.
Had I seen the new cover, I probably would have denied myself the golden opportunity of reading the following racy passage:
"Brain clicked off. Heat, slick, full, do it, get me, Jesse now, Jesse now -
Yes. Flying out over it, up and over. Just - there.
Yes, perfect, ah.
Ah."
I kid you not - honest!
It's a "mean gunslinger comes to little mining town and falls for saloon girl, has a showdown with a couple of baddies, and loves horses" saga, and to quote the gutsy and beleaguered heroine, "It beats canning salmon" - but not by much.

Rating: Summary: funny and human Review: Gaffney's CROOKED HEARTS cracked me up--a western comedy--and this was is more of the same, something I can't get enough of. Her ironies and tongue in cheek just blow me away. I loved the characters--the hero esp who poses as a gunfighter without knowing the first thing about handling guns and still manages to scare the living daylights out of people. Oh, I just enjoyed the heck out of this book, devoured it in a day!

Rating: Summary: Fast, funny, and heartwarming... Review: Gaffney's talents as both a storyteller and a wit are evident throughout this beautifully constructed book. It's so much fun to read that it's easy to underestimate the depth of the way it examines the masks we all wear to get through life and love affairs in one piece. All of Gaffney's books are terrific, but the ones that showcase her smart, sly humor are my favorites. Read CROOKED HEARTS, too; it's as much fun as OUTLAW.

Rating: Summary: Had Potential Review: I just don't understand where this book went. It really had a lot of potential. A saloon keeper falls in love with a hired gunman. That would have been nice, but there are several things that reduced the quality of this book. First was the fact that the hero (Jesse) and the heroine (Cady) did not have enough interaction for the first 200 or so pages and then all of a sudden they jump into bed with each other. From here on to the last chapter is ok except I couldn't make up my mind about whether I liked Jesse or not. He was very devious and selfish but was also fun and loving. I was not sure shy Cady loved him so much. Then there is the last chapter. This chapter was an abrupt time change and makes no sense whatsoever in relation to the chapter before it. It was a nice ending but there should have been more inbetween chapters 14 and 15 becuase chapter 15 really makes no sense by itself. It just felt like the author was in a hurry and wanted to quickly finish up this book. Oh well. This is the first book Ive read by this author but I think I will give her another chance, just in case this book was just a fluke.

Rating: Summary: oops, I think I've read this before. Review: I love Patricia Gaffney's romance novels. I was very excited a "new" one was coming out. I ordered it and when it arrived I read the first paragraph. I said " Gee, this is familiar". That's because I read it and loved it 2 years ago. I think in all fairness to Amazon's shoppers and the fans of all writers, we should be advised when a book is a reprint. I've been duped and I don't like it.
