Rating: Summary: Give me a break! Review: Alexandra Parker is battling breast cancer and her husband, Sam, is being a real jerk because he can't deal with her illness. His mother died of cancer and he just can't face the trials and tribulations his wife has to go through to conquer her illness. I don't know what Danielle Steel was thinking when she wrote this book, but the characther of Alexandra should not have taken her husband back after his terrible treatment of her immediately after she was diagnosed. And then he has an affair to boot with a self-centered, social climbing twit. While cancer is very hard on family members, and some spouses cannot cope, I feel that Ms. Steel took this to the extreme... and some of the scenarios just happened much to quickly after Alexandra was diagnosed.
Rating: Summary: I thought the book could have been better. Review: Basically, what I did not like about this book was the wife who was battling cancer decided to give her unfaithful husband another chance. This man was not there for her during her kemo therapy sessions or whatever else she went through to survive. Her male friend was always there for her. She should have married him instead of going back to her husband. I was very disappoined by this book. I believe Ms. Steel could have written the plot better than what was published
Rating: Summary: Classic Steel Style Review: Down to earth handling of a real life subject, but very disappointing ending. Truly a slap in the face to independent women
Rating: Summary: Even I liked it! Review: Firstly, can I say this review is written from a mans perspective, on a predominantly women orientated book! I picked this book up while on holiday in rainy Gloucester in the Southern UK. Having never read a Danielle Steel book before, I assumed (stupidly) that her works were all trashy books, relentlessly relying on exaggerated portrayals of emotions designed to appeal to the over emotional, hormonal, female pshyche, in the same light as an Oprah Winfrey Show. Maybe that day, i descovered my femenine side! This book was such an encapsulating read that i didn't want to put down for a second. The realism throughout (though i have never experienced it myself) drew me into the character in a way I never expected, and heart wrenching scenes during her illness, really made me admire the author, and feel like I was going through it too! The ending was poignient, not bad. It just goes to prove that we are only human, and you cant always choose who you love. I now take these issues much more seriously, and I pride myself on the awareness of this and other womens issues that i have since aquired.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: For the second time in as many months I have read and was disappointed with the characters in a Danielle Steel book. Where does she find them. Sam was so irritating that if he really existed, I would have slapped him. Alex wasn't that much better. She should have sent him packing and kept the kind considerate Brock.
Rating: Summary: Trite, trite, awful, annoying... Review: I am stunned that a book like "Lightning" would sell even one copy. Mine was given to me, but should have been tossed in the trash instead. I cannot begin to talk about what is wrong with this book because there is nothing right. Worthless!!!!and pathetic and beyond. For heaven sake if you are really of fan of Steel's (I find that hard to believe) than check it out of the library, do not waste a dime on this trash. "Lightning" discredits all women and is a sham. It does not deserve even one star.

Rating: Summary: depressing drivel Review: I decided to read this because I usually enjoy Danielle Steele's books. However, I felt that this was just a bit too depressiing and mocks women who have battled cancer. I regret wasting my time reading this. The story seemed too contrived inparts and in some I was actually thinking to myself this is crap! I know a lot of people will disagree with me but I think that she is capable of better writing than this.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing but a good read Review: I enjoyed reading this book, however, I was very disappointed with the ending. Alex was a real baby in the beginning and when all his toys were lost he ran back to mama. Unfortunately, he was not "man" enough to support his wife when she really needed him. Brock proved to be a real "man" and friend. It's an interesting book, but I would have preferred a different ending. END
