Rating: Summary: DO NOT care for what people have been saying! Review: Barbara Taylor Bradford is a wonderful writer. I do think she is the Danielle Steel of England. Here in Brazil she's a famous writer, and most of the women who reads her usually enjoy her books. I'm a boy who soon learned to read almost every kind of book. And romantic books are also in my shelves. POWER OF A WOMAN is an excelent book. One of Barbara's best ever. It has a fast plot (I started reading it and when I realized I was on page 100!), an interesting plot and, better, a good ending. Buy that book. You won't be disappointed. You couldn't be, when talking about Barbara Taylor Bradford. A master!
Rating: Summary: The Power Of Romance Review: Barbara Taylor Bradford's fans will love this story about precious jewels and precious relationships!
Rating: Summary: AWFUL! AWWWFUL!! AWWWWFUL!!!! Review: DON'T BUY THIS BOOK, I REPEAT, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!!I have read many, many a boring plotlines but none as awful as this one. It wasn't so much boring as that the book made no sense. Plenty of times, you read a book where the main character is rich and beautiful and has everything and you think you can't really feel sorry for them because you can't relate, but somehow the author (a good author) will weave you into this character's life and problems and by the end of the book you feel like you know this person, you feel this person's pain. NOT so with 'Power'. From beginning to end, you never really get to know this character enough to really care about what happens to her. You don't get to know any of the characters enough. And why in the world would a highly uppercrust English boy call his mother Ma. I mean I would believe it if it was explained somehow but it wasn't. Let's get real!!! Her kids are portrayed as one-dimensional. We never get into their lives outside of the mother. We never find out what makes them tick or why they do the things that they do. In short, WE NEVER CARED
Rating: Summary: A NICE BOOK FROM A VERY PROLIFIC AUTHOR Review: For lovers of romantic books, this is a very nice piece. Barbara Taylor Bradford is not a perfect author. But then nobody's perfect, so why would I want perfection from her? But let's go back to the subject: this book is about lost, hate, vingeance, and obviously, love and how we learn from these feelings. The plot itself is not very cool. Barbara has a way of telling the story that sometimes make the reader wonder why he/she is still reading the book. But what's worth with her is exactly this: the up and downs of the book and the good sensation you get after reading her books. Personally, I found this to be one of her best books. After reading it, you don't regret and, to the credit of Barbara - and to her cash also - you want to read another. Then you become a frequent reader of hers without realize it. Isn't that wonderful? :) Marco Aurelio - contact: deankoontzfan@hotmail.com
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I enjoyed the book, but it was not up to Ms. Bradford's usually good stories.
Rating: Summary: The most BORING book ever!! Review: I find it very hard to believe this was on the bestseller list. I have never read a more boring book in my life!! Luckily, I picked this up at the library, so at least I didn't waste any money on it, just my time.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional Writing Review: I first fell in love with Barbara Taylor Bradford's work "A Woman of Substance." Then I proceeded to read everybook that came out and I was in awe. Power of a Woman is well written with the right mixture of Romance and Intelligence. To me "A Woman of Substance" was more powerful but BTB has shown that she is consistent and a great storyteller!
Rating: Summary: Very Unimaginative--Time Waster Review: I was very disappointed with this book. The characters were not very well developed and I felt that the author spent more time describing the character's opulent surroundings rather than put any thought into the plot or the characters' personalities. I kept thinking it would get better but it didn't.
Rating: Summary: Did Bradford really get paid for this? Review: Less than halfway through the book, I began to wonder if the author's grandchild had written it.
But, no, I said to myself, it would have been more appealing. I plowed on in total disbelief. It wasn't even a good parody of itself.
Rating: Summary: A huge disappointment Review: Ms. Taylor Bradford needs to find a new genre (along with a new photograph for the back cover. Has she not changed one iota in twenty years?). A Woman of Substance was great but it's been downhill ever since. How many times do we have to read about a woman making a glorious success of a career in retail? Albeit in the very finest stores. This book is not worth the paper it is printed on.
