Rating: Summary: The price for PASSION cost her a lot Review: Vivian was a better woman than me. In reading the book, I had to ask myself, would I have done the same thing that Vivian did if I were in her shoes. In the beginning, I didn't think I would have the courage to take care of someone else's mistake. Then I realized, as Vivian did, she and Passion (the illegitimate baby of her husband Walter) were the victims of this senseless and uncarying adulterous relationship that Walter had with Passion's mother. The child needed to be taken care regardless of how Vivian felt about her. She couldn't feed herself, and her father sure wasn't going to do it. He dropped her off on Vivian as if he were asking his wife to wash his dirty clothes. He was that carefree, and unemotional towards his adultery.Without going into too much detail and giving the story away, I just wanted to point on some issues that I had with the story. I think this was a well-written book, one that I knew I would enjoy from reading the excerpt on Amazon. I do however think Vivian's decision/relationship with Marc was hasty. I fell in love with Marc like all the other readers, but I just felt like Vivian needed to give herself time from her hurtful and untrustworthy relationship with Walter. Then I realized that we weren't talking about a 20+ something year old woman, we were talking about a woman that had been married to her husband for 20 years and in her 40's. Not to say that she was old, but if she was really looking and searching for happiness, now was the time because she might not have that chance again. I also found it funny that Walter thought he could just drop a baby on his wife from another woman because they were unsuccessful at conceiving there own child. Like that would make a world of difference and she was suppose to just accept his flings and his misfortunes. That was not her responsibility but his. I also found it quite funny that out of the whole time she was with Walter she was never able to conceive. She had prayed for God to answer her prayers of being a mother. Nobody but God knows what's best for us. If we remain patient, our prayers will be answered. It was odd how Vivian responded to her blessings. Maybe she was just scared and unsure of herself. Whatever the case may be, this was a quick and easy read. The author did a good job of portraying how success and fame can go to one's head. The devil sits there waiting for us to mess up so he can lead us astray. That's exactly what happened to Walter. But it was Vivian that was actually blessed throughout this entire ordeal.
Rating: Summary: What A Price To Pay Review: Hi my name is Deborah Cooper. I'm with Uplifted Book Club in Houston, Texas. We read The Price of Passion for the month of April. We really enjoyed the book. The book brought lots of questions to people minds. Why do women like Vivian stay? Where do you find brothers like Mark? And who would even like a brother like Walter. And we being nice because other people might be reading this. Evelyn you did a good job on your book. Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: Unique Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the Price of Passion. I was really excited to read it after reading the customer reviews. Usually when I'm that hyped I end up getting let down because my expectations are too high. Not this time! What a wonderfully unique and romantic story. I would definitely recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER Review: I THOUGHT TWICE BEFORE I PURCHASED THIS BOOK. ALTHOUGH THE STORY DID SEEM INTERESTING. FOR SOME REASON I DIDN'T CARE MUCH FOR THE BOOK. I THINK IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE COVER. THEN I THOUGHT TO MYSELF AND SAID, YOU CANNOT JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER. SO, I BAUGHT THE BOOK. AFTER THE FIRST THREE PAGES, I COULD NOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I AM AFRAID IF I TRY TO EXPRESS HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS BOOK AND HOW I ENJOYED, I MIGHT SPOIL IT FOR THE OTHER READERS IN THE PROCESS. THEREFORE I WILL CONCLUDE MY REVIEW BY SIMPLY SAYING THAT, THIS WAS A BEAUTIFUL STORY WELL PUT TOGETHER AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. MUCH SUCCESS TO THE AUTHER. KEEP ON WRITING AND I WILL KEEP ON READING.
Rating: Summary: One book you will not put down! Review: This is my first read by this author. I was interested in reading Dangerous Dilemnas; however, it was on back order. I was thoroughly surprised by this author's writing style. She has a way of pulling you into the characters. This book is definitely a one day read. You will not be able to put this book down once you pick it up. I fell in love with Vivian because I could understand her decisions. I feel most women would walk away and leave a small baby that is conceived in adultry, however, Vivian had a special love, one that was able to look past her husband's infidelities and see that the child was innocent and needed her love. I think I would have done the same thing, although it would have been hard. I fell in love with Marc and wished that I could clone him for some of my single friends. Marc is the man most women dream of. He had a patient unconditional love for Vivian.I enjoyed this book so much that I ordered her first book. This is our book club's monthly reading and I know that we will have a lively discussion about this one. Keep up the good work! I love forward to many more books.
Rating: Summary: This is an excellent book Review: I received this book for a birthday present, from my daughter in december. I started to read the book, and could not put it down, I thought I mysself had wrote this book in another life. I felt everything vi was experiencing. I think a lot of black women can relate, once we help our men to make it, they are ready to cast us to the side.I felt so good after read this book. Vi proved to be such a strong black woman. I knew walter would get what was coming to him. I was so happy when Marc came into her life.I felt all of the joy they expreinced togeather, I Live in little rock, and everything seem so real to me , all of the areas, pine bluff, clarksdale, all of these places I have been, so I felt the book to be so real. I truely enjoyed this book, and I will get Ms Palfrey other books. I cannot stop talking about this book. Ms Palfrey keep up the good (GREAT)work.
Rating: Summary: True to life! Review: I was sort of confused when the book first started, but once into the novel, I couldn't put it down. Ms. Palfrey's description of Walter and his power-trip combined with Vivian's longing to be a good and obedient wife combined with Marc's enduring patience made for a more-than-wonderful book! I became deeply involved in this book having experienced something similar to Vivian's situation. Ms. Palfrey did an excellent job conveying her feelings and frustrations of having to take of her husband's illegitimate baby and his infidelity. I give this book THREE thumbs up and am eagerly awaiting this author's next piece of work.
Rating: Summary: A PAGE TURNER! Review: My first time reading an Evelyn Palfrey book and I'm HOOKED! I couldn't put it down and hated when I was interrupted for any reason and had to stop reading it. This was an amazing story!Vivian was a good example of the strength and endurance of black women. While reading, I wondered if I could be as understanding if my husband brought home his woman's baby and acted the way Walter did. I think 99% of us black women would certainly have taken this brother to task. Marc Kline was the prince charming we all dream about. A real man who stood by his woman even when she doubted his sincerity (although he did make the mistake of letting another man put doubts in his head). If you haven't read this book, BUY IT NOW! It will definitely renew your faith in love and in black men.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Book Review: This is my first book by the author. I don't know where she has been hiding. When I first started reading I couldn't believe Walter's attitude about the baby situation. And how calm Vivian was. Marc is the type of man every lady wants to have for herself. All the characters made this book an enjoyable read. You will experience many emotions when reading this book. I recommend all to go and find this book. You will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: I Couldn't Put it Down Review: I had never heard of Palfrey, but I'm wondering why. This novel was excellent, and it kept me up late two nights in a row just to finish it. Despite the scandal, I could see what happened to Vivian happen to someone in real life. As soon as time permits, I'll be purchasing and reading the rest of Palfrey's books.
