Rating: Summary: Clever novel by a friend Review: Evelyn Palfrey is a friend of mine, a very intelligent attorney and resident of Austin, Texas. All attorneys THINK they can write, but Evelyn really CAN! This is a well-planned and delivered story about fictional members of the middle to upper class Austin Black community illustrating family support systems; people in responsible, influential positions; good and not so good solutions to problems; and thoughtful conclusions. I wish Evelyn the best and all success in her future writing.
Rating: Summary: too much Review: The plot is interesting but there's just too much going on. First you have a domestic drama, then a mystery, then a soap opera and then back to a syrupy romance. I found it to be a bit much for one small book.
Rating: Summary: Priceless! Review: This novel was an excellent read. Evelyn Palfrey has done it again. The Price of Passion made you wonder if you found yourself in the same predicament as the main character Vivian, what would you do? The story of men having outside children is so common in our community that many women simply come to accept it, but Vivian decides to take things one step farther. From the beginning until the end you will root for Vivian in the hopes that Walter, her husband gets what he deserves. You will be unable to put this novel down. Definitely a page turner. Evelyn we await your next masterpiece!

Rating: Summary: DEEP in Romance & Suspense! Review: For those interested in a mature, sophisticated and suspenseful read...tinged with romance, you definitely need to pick up Evelyn Palfrey's novel, "The Price of Passion." Vivian has been married to Walter -- a political big wig -- for nearly twenty years. Her love for him has gone sour over the years due to his fall into the political world and his many "late night affairs" he had to intend to. Vivian seemed almost unfazed by his outside activities, that is until one night he comes home with an unwanted visitor...a baby by a former lover. He drops the baby off to her and precedes to have not even a passing thought about the child. This infuriates Vivian to no end and she makes plans to leave Walter forever, but her unexpected love for the child, Passion...as well as her long since vanished hope of having a child, creates dilemmas and obstacles for Vivian to hurdle over. Complicating matters are the whereabouts and identity of Passion's mother...and Vivian's growing feelings for Marc, a professor who finds himself falling hard for Vivian. The Price of Passion is a thick read at 383 pages, but Palfrey has so many nice elements in the novel that you don't feel daunted by it. This novel is as much a romance as it is a suspenseful mystery. Palfrey mingles several plotlines and characters into one seamless novel. Furthermore, what's also interesting about the novel is that Palfrey has a reader survey in the back of the novel that mentions how she doesn't go into description with her characters in order to allow the reader to be more interactive with the story. At first I thought that would turn me off, because I like having concrete visions of the characters that authors usually supply, but I found it a great treat to create the character with their personalities given to me...definitely made for a more interactive and interesting read for me. Rating: Summary: Once u start reading, u wont be able to stop! Review: The Price of Passion is a true page-turner in every sense of the word. I found myself reading at all hours of the night and telling all of my friends to read this book! I loved the way the plot unfolded and the characters are well-developed. I gave POP to my mother to read and she couldn't put it down either. What I like best about POP is how this precious baby takes a hold of the lead character's heart and doesn't let go. POP is a true testament to the power of love. The story keeps you guessing what is going to happen next and trying to figure out the mystery as you go along. I have to admit, when I first saw the other cover I was thinking the story was strictly political. It isn't but there are alot of political elements that come into play. What I also love about The Price of Passion is how it takes place right here in Austin, TX. I could truly visualize the scenes because I know all the places Evelyn wrote about. That made POP an extra treat. Most stories take place in towns you know nothing about. Austinites have a treat in store with this one. I also enjoyed the RV traveling with some "down home blues" thrown in too! :o) Evelyn, you are a wonderful writer. Congratulations on your success and thanks for always being so positive & helpful when it comes to my writing quest. Clarissa.
Rating: Summary: Overcoming Obstacles Review: Imagine your husband of twenty years coming home from the office one evening and plopping a baby carrier down in front of you. Imagine him telling you that you have to take care of the baby he made with another woman and that his word is law. Imagine being torn because you've never been able to produce a child and now, at the age of forty, you finally have the opportunity to nurture and love a child. An innocent child who didn't choose to enter this world as the byproduct of an affair between a famous African-American politician and a cocaine addict. Such is the dilemma of Vivian, married to Walter, a man who thinks he can walk on water and do whatever he likes no matter the consequences. Walter brings the baby girl Passion home, never changes a diaper, never fixes a bottle, never even holds her. Vivian, a third year law student, has to end up missing more than a week of class because Walter won't allow an English-speaking sitter in the home to protect himself from scandal. Walter invites Vivian to a function and insists that she bring the baby only to throw her in front of reporters at a press conference to announce their loving adoption of a needy child. After Vivian returns to school, she is approached by a journalism professor, Marc, who is doing extensive research on adoption. Vivian avoids all his questions but she cannot avoid the immediate attraction between them. Neither can Marc and he shows up day after day to take her out to lunch. During those daily lunches, romance is born and Vivian decides that she has had enough of Walter. Of course, like most men of power, Walter can't handle it and his competitive, determined side emerges. The Price of Passion was surprisingly a very good book. While not generally a fan of romance novels, this one held my attention. The storyline was for the most part predictable but there was a slight surprise near the end. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone that likes to see women overcome obstacles and carry on. Reviewed by Zane
Rating: Summary: An Intriguing Tale of Love and Deception Review: The Price of Passion is an intriguing tale of love and deception laced with suspense. It ponders the question, "What would you do if your husband came home with his illegimate baby and gave it to you to raise?" This is the exact dilemma of the protagonist, Vivian Carlson, in the story. Complicating the tale even more is that Vivian is married to Walter Carlson, a State Representative who is up for re-election. Vivian has always played by the rules and been the "good" politician's wife. She has supported Walter, served as his biggest fan, and ignored his many indiscretions. All of this comes tumbling down when Walter brings home his infant child mid-campaign, and asks Vivian to care for her until he can "figure something out." Vivian is apalled by the mere suggestion, but finds herself reluctantly falling into the role of Mother to this unknown child whom Vivian names Passion. The mystery of this story lies in discovering who is Passion's biological mother. The reader is also pulled into the complicated web of Vivian and Walter's marriage. Their marriage has been hanging on a string for many years prior to Passion's arrival, but it seems the only one to notice is Vivian. Vivian gains enormous strength from Passion's presence in her life. She develops the courage to achieve some of her dreams. Walter, on the other hand, finally notices Vivian when he is at risk of losing her. The Price of Passion is an engrossing read, particularly in this time of political sexcapades. Palfrey supports the main characters with a compelling cast of strong, likable characters. The Price of Passion reads like a soap opera. Each page promises a new discovery or twist of fate. It is a 4 on the RAW scale. Reviewed by: Diane Marbury (HonestD)
Rating: Summary: The Price of Passion Review: I've read 10 books this year and The Price of Passion was the best yet. I loved most of the characters and some of them I just love to hate. Vivian was my favorite character she reminds me of myself a lot. Professor Kline just took my heart. He has a lot of ways like my husband. There were parts that really had me upset but then you came along and straightend them out.I've never read the same book twice but this one I would consider reading again. I went to bed reading got up reading and never got bored reading. I finished reading this book in three days and I past it on to my 17 year old neice. I loved this book it was great. Keep up the great work. I'm looking forward to more of your great work.
