Rating: Summary: DEEP in Romance & Suspense! Review: For those interested in a mature, sophisticated and suspenseful read...tinged with romance, you definitely need to pick up Evelyn Palfrey's novel, "The Price of Passion."Vivian has been married to Walter -- a political big wig -- for nearly twenty years. Her love for him has gone sour over the years due to his fall into the political world and his many "late night affairs" he had to intend to. Vivian seemed almost unfazed by his outside activities, that is until one night he comes home with an unwanted visitor...a baby by a former lover. He drops the baby off to her and precedes to have not even a passing thought about the child. This infuriates Vivian to no end and she makes plans to leave Walter forever, but her unexpected love for the child, Passion...as well as her long since vanished hope of having a child, creates dilemmas and obstacles for Vivian to hurdle over. Complicating matters are the whereabouts and identity of Passion's mother...and Vivian's growing feelings for Marc, a professor who finds himself falling hard for Vivian. The Price of Passion is a thick read at 383 pages, but Palfrey has so many nice elements in the novel that you don't feel daunted by it. This novel is as much a romance as it is a suspenseful mystery. Palfrey mingles several plotlines and characters into one seamless novel. Furthermore, what's also interesting about the novel is that Palfrey has a reader survey in the back of the novel that mentions how she doesn't go into description with her characters in order to allow the reader to be more interactive with the story. At first I thought that would turn me off, because I like having concrete visions of the characters that authors usually supply, but I found it a great treat to create the character with their personalities given to me...definitely made for a more interactive and interesting read for me. Rating: Summary: WHEN WORDS FAIL YOU - YOU'VE EXPERIENCED PARADISE! Review: PARADISE IS THE PLACE THIS AUTHOR TAKES HER READERS. SHE IS A LITERARY GENIUS. THE CHOKEHOLD SHE PUTS ON YOUR EMOTIONS KEEPS YOU TURNING THE PAGES LATE INTO THE MIDNIGHT HOUR. HER TAKE ON THE ROMANCE SCENES LEAVE YOU GASPING FOR BREATH. BUT WRAPPED AROUND ALL OF THAT IS THE MOST SUSPENSFUL STORY I'VE HAD THE PLEASURE OF READING. THAT PART ABOUT THE TAPE AND WHAT IT CONTAINED, WHICH WASN'T PRESENTED TO THE VERY END WAS HEART STOPPING. THE EVOLVEMENT OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MARC AND VIVIAN WAS SUPERB AND SO DOWN TO EARTH BELIEVABLE. MS. PALFREY EVEN GOT ME TO ALMOST FEEL SORRY FOR WALTER, BUT THE SCENE SHE PRESENTED OF HOW HE JUST THREW PASSION AT VIVIAN PUT AN END TO THAT EMOTION QUICK AND A HURRY. BUT THEN I GOT CAUGHT UP IN FEELING SORRY AGAIN FOR OLE WALTER WHEN HE HAD TO TAKE HER TO THE HOSPITAL. MY EMOTIONS WERE ROCKING AND REELING AND YOURS WILL BE IF YOU SHOULD HAVE THE PRIVLEGE OF READING THIS AUTHOR'S WORK. THE INTERACTION OF VIVIAN'S MOTHER WAS THE CONSUMATE TWIST IN THIS BOOK, WHAT WE MOTHER'S WON'T DO FOR OUR YOUNG WAS TAKEN TO THE LIMITS IN THIS BOOK. OLE GLORIA TURNED OUT TO BE THE ULTIMATE MAMA IN THIS ONE, EVEN THOUGH I HAD TROUBLE WITH HER PART IN WALTER'S COVER-UPS. IF YOU WANT YOUR FUNNY BONE TICKLED, WALTER WILL SURELY DO IT WHEN YOU READ ABOUT THE WAY HE GOES ABOUT SOLVING HIS DILEMMA AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE. I WAS HYSTERICAL WHEN I READ OF WHAT VIVIAN WAS THINKIKNG AND WANTED TO SHOUT BUT COULND'T LET THE WORDS OUT. MARC IS THE MAN OF THE HOUR AND KNOWS HOW TO PLEASE HIS WOMAN IN EVERY WAY, EVEN WHEN SHE IS BREAKING HIS HEART. AND SHERMAN O SHERMAN, THAT IS THE MOST CREM DE LA CREM OF SUSPENSE TWISTS. MS. PALFREY IS A SMOOTH OPERATOR WHEN IT COMES TO TWISTS AND TURNS. ENOUGH! BUY THE BOOK AND EXPERIENCE PARADISE! I TOO AM AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF HER OTHER TWO BOOKS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BUY ANYTHING SHE PUTS OUT.
Rating: Summary: one of the best books I have read in several years Review: Being in two book clubs, I do a lot of reading. If a book does not grab me in the beginning, I tend to put it down. This book got me from the page one and didn't let go until the last page. I have passed this book to at least three friends, who also have loved it.
Rating: Summary: Breath-taking and tantilizing Review: This was the first book that I have read by Evelyn Palfrey, and I must say that I am in the process of ordering her other two books. Vivian was a strong woman and although no descriptions were given in the book none had to be about her, Marc, or any of the other characters. The story that the author wrote is something that happens in everyday life. She added a twinge that made me not to want to put the book down. I look forward to reading Palfrey's other two books, Three Perfect Men and Dangerous Dilemmas, as well as any future books.
Rating: Summary: Off the Hook Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I put myself in her place so many times and don't quite know if I could have handled the situation as great as she did. She was awesome. I loved all of the characters and I loved that they all got what they deserved in the end.
Rating: Summary: The Price of Passion -- What is it worth? Review: Ms. Palfrey has written a wonderful, suspenseful book. The Price of Passion is the story of Vivian Carlson, who has been in a loveless marriage for approximately 20 years. Walter Carlson, is Vivian's unfaithful, politically hungry husband. Vivian's husband gives Vivian a package, another's woman's baby, who has eyes just like Walter's. The baby worms her way into Vivian's life and into her heart. Everyone knows that Vivian is too good for Walter. Vivian's mother and sister; Walter's cousin, Sherman; Walter's best friend, Bobby Africa; Vivian's friends, Cora and Marc - all are aware. However, what would Vivian do for "The Price of Passion?" Would Vivian surrender the love of the babe, she so desparately wants to keep? Would she give up the friendship of Marc Kline, the journalist and professor? Would she give up fulfilling her dreams of becoming a lawyer, a career she postponed years ago to help Walter further his career? Would Vivian give up her opportunity to be a mother? Would you? What is worth "The Price of Passion?" Again, Ms. Palfrey has written a wonderful book. I kept turning the pages to uncover the truth and discover just what Vivian would do. The book has some surprising events. It is definitely a page turner.
Rating: Summary: Subtle Review: Evelyn Palfrey is one of my favorite authors. Her style leaves me nodding my head, smiling. This book was another uh huuh book. Until the end I hated Walter. He was heartless, though, written so realistically, it made my skin crawl. To think he actually thought his methodology would WORK on TODAY'S woman. (smile)He was pathetic. Vivian on the other hand was not portrayed as a superwoman, manhating, vendictive witch...she was shown as a real woman, hurt, aching...heartbroken.Until her life was changed.Reluctant at first to accept the good (as some woman who have been abused for so long are) she finally does, to a masterful ending that broke tears to my eyes. As for WALTER...THAT's WHAT YOU GET!
Rating: Summary: Dont let the title fool yah! Review: I don't know what I was expecting, but boy was I surprised. I love Vivian, the patient, tolerant wife. This is one of Evelyn Palfreys best books. But don't believe me read it for yourself.
Rating: Summary: An Explosive and Passionate Novel Review: Vivian Carlson is a 40 year old woman who wants a baby more than anything else. She and her husband Walter tried for years and they were unsuccessful. Walter is a handsome man who is full of passion for life. He is a good provider. However, Walter is no angel. He is an egoistical politician who had a number of affairs throughout their marriage. Vivian tries to ignore the affairs. Instead, she focuses on improving her life by attending law school. Walter drops a bombshell that will change Vivian's life forever. He brings home his baby who is the result of one of his affairs. Vivian is shocked and devastated. She wants to have nothing to with Walter or the baby. To Vivian's shock, Walter announces at a press conference that he and Vivian adopted the baby. Vivian wants to tell the truth that Walter is a liar. However, Vivian can't, because Walter is seeking reelection. Walter is paranoid that an English speaking babysitter will leak to press the truth about the scandal. As a result, Vivian is forced to take care of the baby. To Vivian's surprise, she begins to bond with the baby whom she names Passion. Marc Kline who is a local college professor tracks Vivian down to find out more about the adoption. Vivian tries to avoid him. However, he is persistent. Marc opens up feelings in Vivian. She feels revitalized. They embark on a romance and Vivian is faced with her own question about the Price of Passion. I would highly recommend this book.
