Rating: Summary: I am from Holland, isn't that vierd?? Review: Sunset at St. Tropez, written by Danielle Steele, is a fun fictional novel, much like much like Steele's normal romantic novels. It is somewhat inspiring to know that you can go on after someone passes away. If you enjoy reading romantic novels, this one is great example of how a romantic life can start all over, even after having lost the love of your life. It starts off relatively slow by introducing all of the main characters. They are a group of three couples who have been friends for years. They do everything together. They vacation together, they eat meals, and they have a lot of different adventures together. All is well for this group of friends and things are about to get better, or so they think. They have wanted to take a vacation far away for several years, and decide on St. Tropez, France. They plan the trip for one month that coming summer, but when tragedy strikes one of them, will the others be able to go? If they go what will the trip have in store for them? They decide that their friend would have wanted them to go and they all end up going. However, the widowed husband brings along a friend. She is a young, beautiful movie star. The other ladies find this a bit controversial and find that this fling will not work out. At the house that they rented in France, this youthful movie star will have to prove herself worthy to her lover's friends. Can she do it and will their love continue to go on? The book also shows how true friends go a long way, and though one is lost you must go on. This book is quick and easy to read. It is also very enjoyable to read and not very deep. What did I think? I thought this was a straightforward, pleasurable book to read. It started off slow, but after the first chapter it started grabbing me. This book is not one to read if you are looking for a thrill, but I think that if romantic laidback novels are your thing, then you will love it. However, one negative aspect of the book was that it is very predictable. I thought after having read the first half that I knew how it would end.
Rating: Summary: A Pleasurable Read Review: Sunset in St. Tropez is the story of six friends (three married couples) who have a long-lasting friendship. On New Year's Eve they decide to take a vacation to St. Tropez for a month in the summer. Then unexpectedly Anne, one the the six friends, dies and the rest of the group has to decide whether or not to go. Thanks to a non-refundable deposit they go ahead and go to make the best of their vacation and also to honor their friend's memory. Once they arrive at St. Tropez the book takes on a humorous quality. All in all this book was very good. It was entertaining while exploring the issue of death among a group of friends. The widower announces he is bringing a friend along with him and this creates a conflict among the other friends. They feel like they can't accept the friend because it would be a dishonor to their deceased friend. I thought this aspect of the book was well written. It explores the whole issue of how people move on after a death and how they honor and treasure the memory of the deceased. The housekeeper and her husband added a very humorous quality to the book. Sunset in St. Tropez is by no means a deep, thought provoking book but neither is it a comedy. It is a well-blended combination of seriousness with just enough humor to make it a great vacation or weekend read. I was able to read this book within one day, which seems to be a rarity with DS books anymore. If you haven't liked previous DS books please give this one a try. I think you'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: The sun has set on Danielle Steel's writing. Review: The reason I bought this book was because I wanted to get a taste of what St. Tropez was really like. I wanted to "go" there in my mind. What I got was a book about three late middle-aged couples and the various issues in their relationships. I suppose there is an audience out there who would appreciate this book, buy I am 40 and was bored to death. I did catch the names a few places to visit in St. Tropez (if they are real), but I couldn't really tell you much of anything about the French Riveria other than it is on the Mediterranean Sea and rich people go there to vacation. Danielle Steel has done much better writing in her former days. I feel like she got lazy on this novel and threw something together to sell a book. The ending is so ridiculous (even for romance novels) that I hope somebody stops Ms. Steel, before she stikes (writes) again.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Terrible! Review: This book was a complete and utter waste of time. The storyline is totally predictable and very shallow. There is basically no character development and no plot. The editing was terrible as the writing was redundant in many places. It was just not enjoyable reading at all. I cannot believe this was even published. I haven't read Danielle Steele in quite a while and - after reading this - I'm not going to bother with her books in the future.
Rating: Summary: do yourself a favor and NEVER read this Review: This book was slow and boring, not to mention predictable. I feel like a stupider person having read this book and i feel that i wasted my life reading it. Take my advice and don't waste your time.
Rating: Summary: Needs alot of Improvement Review: This is definintely not Danielle Steels best book (that is 'Accident') nor is it her worst (that's 'Irresistible Forces'). The story is about five friends and an extremely famous movie star in a rundown mansion in St Tropez and the month they spend together. This is most possibly one of the most repetitive Danielle Steel books I have ever read. She keeps making the same points over and over again. Pascale and Diana distrust Gwen, we get the point, yet the author repeats this and the reasons why on almost every single page. Plus, alot of the little 'surprises' you see from the beginning. This is not a horrible reading experience, and it's also not too enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Sunset in St. Tropez Review: This is one of Danielle Steel's better novels. It had a pleasant and happy ending and is great for summer or vacation reading. I was captivated by it and couldn't put it down until I was finished.
It tells how 3 couples, who planned to vacation the following year in St. Tropez, France were met with tragedy when one of the couple's wives died. Robert soon began to date again and when it came time to go on vacation, he brought his new girlfriend, who was a budding actress. This did not go over well with the other wives and caused a lot of friction among the couples.
In the end, all of the preconceived notions about the new girl friend were eliminated and it taught a lesson to those who made quick judgments about others.
Rating: Summary: Simply Atrocious Review: This is the first book of Danielle Steel which I read after yearss. May be I would have read a couple before. But I did not seem to remember any of them.By mistake I took this book and thought that I would give it a try.But it was simply atrocious. After about 50 pages I just could not go on.But generally I dont leave a book half read.So I completed it.The story revolves around three boring old couples and their trip to a place called St.Tropez.These 3 couples are supposed to be the best of friends.Although this point will be stretched in every point of the book,as a reader having read many books you would never feel so.And how they spend time at St.Tropez(which is written in such a lackluster way) forms the story.Oh gosh!I just wanted to try her book. But never will I try reading Steel's books again!May be some of her other books may be good. But after reading this book, one would never attempt to try another one of hers!
Rating: Summary: Back To The Old Days. Review: This is the style of Danielle Steel that I've come to expect from her. This reminded me of her early writings and I loved this story. You really were pulled in by the characters and I hated to see it end. I hope she continues down this road.
Rating: Summary: Raw Dissappointment Review: This novel is really a short story. It's characters do not have the time or space to get fully developed. They are like a good french meal without the main course, and definitely no dessert. I am left completly dissatisfied with this novel(la). Was this perhaps a 24 hour deadline? Did Danielle not get her facts straight about the Cote D'Azure ? Must everyone live happily ever after without first going through believable trials and hardships? C'mon Madame Steele...Can we not approach middle age without greater depth? I am very disappointed with this waste of twenty dollars. We know you are much more capable.
