Summary: Blah
Review: I was looking for a nice little romance to escape with and I was in O'Hare airport with nothing much to do. I saw this on the shelf & that this author had sold hundreds of millions of books. I figured that many people couldn't be wrong. Hmm.

The first thing that turned me off right away was that there was a character with the same first name as mine. Unfortunately, this character fares extremely poorly in the book. I suppose it's not really fair of me to dislike the book for that. I mean the character who does worst in the book has to have some name, but I just couldn't let it go. So much for escape from my own problems.

Another thing that annoyed me was that one of the characters was characterized as a "superior court judge" in New York City. Now, if you know anything about law in New York, you know that there is no such position in New York State. The position that corresponds to "superior court judge" in other states is called "supreme court justice" here. (The court that we have that would be called "supreme court" in other states is called "court of appeals.") Why does New York have to be different like this? Who knows? But then everyone always knew New York was different from the rest of the coutnry. Now you may say that this is a petty point, but it seems to me that, if you're an author with a big following and you know you might have yet another best-selling book and you know a lot of your book is going to be set in New York City, you could bother to research these things just a tad just so, in case some of your readers ever go looking for a court in New York City, they might end up in the right place.

Now sitting back from my personal vendetta, I have to say that it was a light and easy read, so I suppose I got a bit of an escape from it. The reading level here is probably barely fifth grade. The characters were pretty well developed, using short, uncomplicated sentences. There weren't any complicated concepts here. I would say Harry Potter is probably a more challenging read. Still, the thing kept my attention, mostly because it was short and I just sailed on through.

It was nice that the characters were happy, older people. It's nice to see a romance where everyone isn't a kid.

I found the ending abrupt and contrived, but, fortunately, happy.

I don't know if I would get another book by this author... maybe in a pinch, in an airport, if I'm desperate. But I would certainly look for alternatives.

Summary: Don't waste your time!
Review: I was so disappointed with D.S.'s latest book. She has been falling down a large hill for a long time and I think she finally hit the bottom! This book spent way too much time worrying about what the characters were wearing rather than developing any personalities or connections between them. It also jumped around from here to there, leaving you to wonder where the story was going. And the ending! Don't bother. I don't think you could have predicted the ending from the start because it was so bad! Don't waste your time with this one, it was the last Danielle Steel book I'll be reading!

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I was very disappointed in Sunset in St. Tropez. This is definately not one of Danielle Steele's better books. I didn't think the story had much body to it, though I did enjoy the strength of the relationships and how I really felt these couples were devoted to each other. As for the obsessiveness of the lead women characters toward the supporting female, I could have done without that.

Summary: From the perspective of a die-hard Danielle Steel fan....
Review: I won't take up space and give you a summary of this book; my review has a different purpose. I just wanted to say: I LOVED THIS BOOK! I am a die-hard Danielle Steel fan and always will be, but I must admit that her last few books haven't been her best work. However, at long last, the author seems to have recaptured that "special something" that has been missing in her recent works. I could not put this book down. I devoured it in one sitting. I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Summary: Gave it one star only because zero stars was not an option.
Review: I've never understood how Danielle Steel can sell so many books. The few books of hers which I've tried to read have left me scratching my head as to how she can continue to get published AND have best-sellers.

Sunset in St. Tropez caught my eye at the library because of its brightly-colored cover. Since I was looking for a good summer read, the words "St. Tropez" intrigued me. The plot sounded good, and this novel, unlike so many others of hers, wasn't unduly long, nor did the plot involve a big, complicated family's hardships/trials/tribulations spanning 80 years or more. (Not a fan of the epic).
It didn't take long for her writing to grate on my nerves. How many times in the first two chapters did she hit the reader over the head with the fact that "the six friends" did this or that, and "the six of them" liked this or that. I got so sick and tired of reading the phrase, "the six of them" that I put the book down and didn't pick it up for two whole days (something I rarely do). When I did resume reading, I was faced with more bad writing, boring dialogue, and events that I can only presume were supposed to surprise me and intrigue me enough to keep me reading.
That did not happen.
I admit it: I could not finish this book. Maybe somewhere along the way the novel redeems itself, but as far as I could tell it is just another tale spun by Ms. Steel that's as unimpressive as her others.
Must be nice to have such great connections in the publishing world.

Summary: Not Danielle Steel's best work
Review: I've read all of Danielle Steele's books. However, this one was so predictable. I'm starting to find her books very boring. Put it this way I will never purchase any more of her books. My favorites were The Ring, Jewel and Heartbeat to name only a few. At one time I couldn't wait for her new book to come out. Before this book and the one before that she was one of my favorite authors ... now I really can't say.

Summary: Different but I Loved It
Review: It may have seemed like the story went too fast; going from one phase to another in the relationships that were portrayed. I think the author meant for this to be a type of short story. It was not a long story that had time to go into details about people and events. The reader had to use her/his imagination in some parts of the book. We were not told about the many nights Robert cried for his wife even when he was falling in love with Gwen. When a person looses a love one, he/she learns real early how to laugh on the outside while crying on the inside in order to go on with life. One does not stop loving a deceased person with whom they have shared their life even after another person comes into the picture. Life does have to go on if one wants to be happy. The reader has to fill in a lot of holes left by the author.

I did have a problem with the maid and the way she dressed. I could not fit her into the schema of things. Her character was almost too much to believe; a little too far out. I would like to have seen some other character in the maid's role.

Summary: What I have been waiting for!!!!
Review: Now this is the Danielle Steel that I love. Once I started I could not stop. I fell in love with all the characters especially Pascale and John. (Even though I believe that the mourning process was a little short for John, especially, when he loved his wife so dearly)Their relationship is so fun you always want to see what is going to happen next. I just hope that when my fiance and I get married we form friendships like these three couples. Way to go Steel!!!

Summary: I have quit reading D. Steele!
Review: So many of my friends enjoy Danielle Steele books, that I thought that it must be just me thinking she is totally over-rated. I never used to finish reading her books after a few chapters. Each book was like a previous one and she is so repetitive. It seems like her writing style has never improved from her very first books. I have read many better authors who have published only 1 or 2 books. I just can't understand why she is so popular!
