Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I'm a big Danielle Steel fan and have read all of her books, but this one was very disappointing. There was nothing happy or upbeat about it, nor was it very creative. It was somewhat depressing and boring.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Boring Review: If I could have given 1/2 star I would have. You tend to get tired of hearing the same chatter over and over again in the e-mails. Jack, Praying (and for someone who only went to church on Christmas Eve) that was annoying and being called Fred. Faith had no back bone and was pretty stupid to put up with Alex. All the characters were whiners, execpt for Zoe who seemed to have the most personality. Not the best Danielle Steel. I finished last night and was quite happy to have it end. Thank "God" I got it from the Library.
Rating: Summary: Pete,Pete and Repeat Review: In essence, the book is about two people (Faith and Brad) who have known each other since they were children and their unhappy married lives. Both are married to a person they are not compatible with and do not love. The story is so predictable that I hesitate to tell much about the plot of the story. The author keeps repeating the same things over and over. I skimmed much of the book because I knew what it was going to say.I agree with others who have written comments. DS just threw this book out to the public with little thought. It made the Best Seller's List simply on the author's name alone. I would love to have heard the arguments she and the editor had over the writing of "Answered Prayers". Surely no editor would agree with this type of writing.
Rating: Summary: A Waste of Time... Review: Read the first few chapters and the last few pages. As usual, the remaining 300 pages were just repetition. Danielle Steele should come up with a new "formula" (as mentioned in previous reviews) or tuck her pen away once and for all.
Rating: Summary: Become friends before you become lovers Review: Reading "Answered Prayers" reminded of Ms. Steel's last book "The Dating Game".. It basically had to the same plot. An attractive middle-aged woman trying to hold on to her marriage and her family only to find out that her husband wants a new life without her because she boring, dull and willing to do things outside of the home. The character "Faith" goes through a lot of mental abuse throughout the story. She wants more to do since her children have grown up and applies to law school. But her husband feels that she is wasting her time. Thank goodness Faith has a strong, support behind her. Because is she didn't; she wouldn't have the strength to attend law school, stop her husband's abusing, brainwashing tatics on one of their daughters and to find love again with someone she has known all of her life.
Rating: Summary: Totally predictable - just terrible Review: Reading "Answered Prayers" reminded of Ms. Steel's last book "The Dating Game".. It basically had to the same plot. Rating: Summary: This one was Torturous! Review: The only reason that I finished this book was so that I could write this review. For some reason, I don't feel entitled to write a review here unless I have actually finished the book! And so, I struggled through page after page of repetitive drivel wishing that I hadn't picked up this book in the first place. This is the absolute worst Danielle Steel I have ever read - maybe even the worst book I have ever read period. Her editor should be ashamed. Steel repeats the same sentences over and over, beating the reader in the head with Faith's purity and Brad's ridiculous notion that he must stay with his miserable wife. The author is so out of step with reality here, it is pathetic. Unbelievable. Alex, Faith's husband totally overreacts when she tells him she wants to go to law school. One of these "no wife of mine will go to work" kinda guys! But the thing is, turns out old Alex has been having an affair all along so why would have put up such a fuss over this? He was going to leave her anyway. Made no sense to me. And the way Faith and her daughters interact is weird too. The oldest is like 23 or something, living and working in London. She calls to tell her mother that she would like to go skiing over Christmas rather than come home to New York to visit her family (the way they act, who could blame her). Faith goes bonkers but ultimately gives her permission to go skiing. Tell me, how many 23 year olds living away from home need permission to go skiing over a holiday? The emails were incredibly dull and the platonic nature of Brad and Faith's relationship was stupid. Oh how she fought against her feelings - even went to confession to confess having "feelings" for Brad. Nice but rather unrealistic. Personally, I would have to wonder about a man who would stay in such a hideous marriage simply for the sake of not getting divorced. All in all - this was torture. If there were a way to give it "0" stars, I would have. I see she's got two more coming out this year, Three books in a year! No wonder they are so bad. The thing is, I really liked her early stuff. The Ring was pretty good. What happened?
Rating: Summary: Answered Prayers or Endless Marriage Review: The people in Faith's life are dying or moving away. At her step father's funeral, she sees an old friend she grew up with. Her brother's best friend Brad Patterson. They talk, exchange e-mails. And Brad goes back to San Fransisco.
When she gets home she can hear Alex upstairs in their bedroom. She needs to get ready for a dinner party. Alex is a investment banker. He tells Faith to hurry up. In a half an hour she's ready to go. Alex looks at her and thinks she looks like his daughters.
Faith has so much time on her hands. One daughter is in London and the other is at Brown. She starts thinking about going back to law school. She knows she has the time, with Alex always gone on business trips, and her daughters away. She has e-mailed Brad several times. He encourages her to go back to school. She brings it up to Alex. And he thinks its a terriable idea. She needs to be home to cook for him and be his wife. Not a full time student at her age. She tells him she needs something to do. "Learn to play bridge or take a class at the museum" he tells her. That sounded boring to her. She sends off for brochures from some of the local schools.
More e-mails between her and Brad.
At Thanksgiving their daughters come home. Everything is going good. Until Alex tells the girls about the ridiculous idea that their mother has about going back to school. Zoe thinks its a great idea. Eleanor thinks mom should be home for dad.
Around Christmas, Faith learns that Eleanor is not coming home. Shes upset about it. And Alex finally tells her school is up to her but he will not support her. In January Faith starts school. One of her classes is going to Washington, on a four day feild trip. On the third day the teacher has to leave for an emergency. Faith comes home a day early. She stops at the store. She wants to suprise Alex. When she walks in the house, she notices a pair fo shoes under one of the kitchen chairs. There not her style. She then goes upstairs to find the bed not made. She pulls back the comforter and finds a black thong and a black bra in her bed. She leaves. She returns the next day as scheduled to find everything the way she left it when she left for Washington. Alex is in the same mood as when she left. Faith tells Alex what she had seen. He told her it was her fault. And moved out. Can Faith and Alex work things out or do they divorce and fall in love with someone else.
Rating: Summary: Boring and predictable Review: This book has way too much repeating of information in it. On each page the author seems to keep telling us the same thing over and over again like the reader is going to forget something from page to page. It also has a very predictable plot. I couldn't even finish the story because I was so bored. I have loved most Danielle Steel books in the past, but her most recent books have really disappointed me.
