Rating: Summary: BOOK WAS OK, NOT GREAT Review: I ALSO AGREE THAT THIS WAS A VERY BLAND BOOK. THE REPETITION GOT RIDICULOUS. I WOULD EXPECT MORE FROM DANIELLE STEEL
Rating: Summary: YAWN Review: I also would have given this a 1/2 star if I could. Probably the worst DS book I have read. Very boring and unbelievably predictable. Someone else said it, I think DS phoned this one in.
Rating: Summary: Surprise!! It's quite good! Review: I am pleasantly surprised by "Answered Prayers". I'm really liking the main characters, Faith and Brad, and their charming romantic banter they engage in. Keep in mind that I am an old hand at Danielle Steel. She is the author I read the most (for whatever reason, hers are the books I tend to finish), and so I am very familiar with her writing style, which, admittedly, is extremely repetitive. I'm comfortable with repetitive writing, though, because I don't tend to finish novels in one sitting/night. I tend to put down the novels several times and come back to them. I am also easily distracted, so I, for one, do like the reminders of what has gone on before. Those that aren't familiar and don't happen on to her books that much, may not like this style of writing. Still, I found "Answered Prayers" main character, Faith Madison, far more likeable, sympathetic, spiritual, and deep.....than wishy-washy Isabelle Forrester from Danielle Steel's "The Kiss". The main character in "Answered Prayers" , Faith, is caught in a very controlling and oppressive marriage with her monster of a husband. Faith tends to be very passive, but as the novel progresses, finds her voice and becomes assertive with the husband, as she becomes closer and closer to her male confidant, Brad, someone she knew from her childhood. I know some readers will lose patience with Faith. But, I find her a gentle soul. There do exist women like her in society--very religious, old-fashioned, and refusing to leave their bad marriage. So, I think in that respect, Danielle Steel told a very realistic story. Yes, these plots do get recycled. Steel's novel "Journey" was also about an abusive marriage. However, the religious aspect in "Answered Prayers" makes it far better than "Journey". "Answered Prayers" is certainly better than the stupid and goofy "The Cottage" by Danielle Steel. "Answered Prayers" just seemed to resonate with me far more than any Danielle Steel novel has in a long time. Come to think of it, I also liked "Sunset in St. Tropez" too. I am looking forward to reading "Dating Game", as I feel Danielle Steel has made a comeback and returned to, if not great writing, at least interesting characters and glamorous settings in novels that are easy to finish.
Rating: Summary: Predictable Review: I found this book predictable and lacking any real surprise. I should have stopped when I read the synopsis on the cover, that about covered it. I'm glad I borrowed it from the library and didn't waste my money on it. It would only end up in next year's garage sale.
Rating: Summary: Tis the season to be reading. Review: I got three books to tuck in with this holiday season--- Good In Bed by Jennifer Weiner--- Cloned Love by Thorne Peters and this book by Danielle Steele. I read this one first. Danielle Steel knows how to get her story off the ground right away, her characters are fully developed when you meet them and she always understands the point that she's trying to make so you're seeing what she sees. ALL of her books are great and this one is Fantastic!!! That's why her name on the cover sells instantly; we know what we're getting.
Rating: Summary: Answered Prayers Review: I have to agree with others that there much repition in the book. Although I liked the story line. I havent read a Danielle Steel book in a few years, but when I do read them I just cant put them down. If you can get past the repitition and the "infactuation" of the deceased brother, then you'll enjoy it!!
Rating: Summary: Anything by this author I just love ! Review: I love absolutely anything by this writer and this book is no exception. A page turning read that almost caused me to be late for work the next morning!
Rating: Summary: I agree, very bland. Review: I totally agree with Kristi (a huge disappointment) on this book. This droaned on and on repeating the same thing over and over again. This book could have covered the same story in 100 pages or less if things like her horrible childhood and how she deserved to be treated badly by everyone weren't repeated in every chapter. I have only read a few Steel books but this one is almost exactly like the last one I read (The Dating Game)with a middle aged man divorcing the perfect, beautiful wife after 20 plus wonderful years to run off with some young tart. Faith made me ill. Did women ever, even in the 1930's, let their husband treat them like that! Save your money!
Rating: Summary: As good as the "old" Danielle Steel books! Review: I used to read Danielle Steel years ago..her books were and are formula, of course. (Boy meets girl, Romance happens, trouble intervenes, trouble is resolved, happy ending). My former mother-in-law adores all of them and I send to her the audio tapes since at age 93 she can no longer read print. She gets much pleasure from the stories as I know thousands of women do. The Palomino and Changes were two of my favorites. The plots and characters were so far removed from "normal" life that they were a great escape for me. I had to have my "fix" now and then. I stopped reading around the 45th book, I think. Then I picked up this book mainly because of the title. It did resonate with me. Faith Madison, a 47 year old woman trapped in a marriage with a man who no longer loves her, breaks away (her husband does her a favor and leaves her), goes back to law school, connects with her childhood friend, Brad Patterson, a Lawyer, and after many trials and tribulations, Faith and Brad finally begin their life together. Part of the main character's story is my story. I believe one reads Ms. Steel knowing what she writes and not expecting great literature. I enjoyed the story...it gave to me what I was expecting to get from it... A happy ending and pleasure. And if we receive from a book what we expect, then isn't it worth the time and the money spent?
Rating: Summary: Totally predictable - just terrible Review: I will not buy a D. Steele book again. I have enjoyed her books in the past although they invariably are "formula" as one reviewer put it. But this book is so bad.....repeating herself so many times in one chapter it almost defies belief. Is Danielle Steele becoming senile? I seriously considered taking this book back to the bookstore to exchange it
