Rating: Summary: Big Disappointment Review: The run on sentences were unbearable, I skimmed through the rest of the book after the second page. Even skimming through was torture, I was hoping for a good ending to making in worth it. No such luck. Very disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Witty writing and unique storyline! Review: The Thin Pink Line is a fun ride that will leave you laughing out loud at the main character's frank and sarcastic wit. Sweet and cuddly, Jane is not! But you'll find yourself wondering what she could possibly be up to next in her bizarre charade to fake a pregnancy. Jane's selfish ways and seeming lack of morals may prove shocking to the imaginatively-challenged but for those looking for an intelligently humourous read, this is a great pick! A gem of a first novel for Baratz-Logsted, can't wait for the next!
Rating: Summary: true-blue look at the world of pregancy with an edge Review: I read this on vacation last week...it is a funny and deliciously biting glimse at a world obsessed with pregnancy through the eyes of one very honest main character, "Jane". Just when you think her behavior can't get any worse (and you find yourself laughing out loud) her intentions surprise you. Make no mistake, "Jane" has a strong value system and good friends. I had a good time with this book...
Rating: Summary: Finally! An Original Chick-Lit! Review: The Thin Pink Line is by what all other chick-lit books should be measured. A sparklingly original storyline, not so much emphasis on the oh-woe-is-me, and bonafide humor is what sets this novel apart. While reading this book, one must ask oneself repeatedly -- is Jane insane?! The heroine, almost-30 Jane Taylor, wants what she doesn't have -- a baby. Seems she has deduced (via her not-exactly-like-stalking research technique) that pregnant women are treated extra special. Doors are held open, smiles are frequently bestowed upon them, and getting out of doing any work is a given. So when Jane is "late" she feels she is finally getting what she rightfully deserves -- that rosy place called pregnancy. Jane's boyfriend, Trevor, seems nonchalant about it, which could only be a good thing, right? But when Jane finds out she isn't really pregnant, her hopes shatter into a million pieces. Seems like she'll have to do what any other woman would do in her situation -- she fakes it. Lauren Baratz-Logsted has written a clear winner. The Thin Pink Line is so refreshing to read, especially after the typical single-girl-in-the-city stories have worn themselves out. A true treat with humor to match. I loved every page. All future Red Dress Ink books should only hope to come close....
Rating: Summary: A Sad Disappointment Review: I hoped this book would be a light summer read, but I was sadly disappointed. The protagonist's lack of intelligence and over-the-top selfishness made this book impossible to finish. The plot is contrived and can be summed up as an unfortunate attempt to imitate Bridget Jones's Diary, only these charcters are even more unrealistic and boring. I actually wanted to like this book, but I felt compelled to put it down after 100 pages.
Rating: Summary: Faking it? Review: Jane has decided to keep telling her friends and boyfriend, Trevor, she is pregnant even after the test comes back negative. The only person she can confide in is David, her gay neighbor. At first Jane thinks she can get pregnant and pull it off even if it is delayed a month or two, but that second pink line never shows up (without a pink marker). Soon she is trying to play off her fake pregnancy even late in the game. She even jeopardizes a new love to pull it off. While I thought this book was mildly interesting, I was highly annoyed at the idea of someone faking an entire pregnancy. I wanted to reach through the pages and slap Jane silly. It is definitely not the best of the Red Dress Ink books.
Rating: Summary: Worth Every Penny! Review: I absolutely loved Thin Pink Line. I thought it was a laugh out loud, well-written, extremely clever summer read! The dialog is hilarious, and is so extremely well written you can actually picture every scene as it unfolds. One scene that particularly made me LOL was Jane's luncheon with her mother, discussing the naming of her "child". -True, in the beginning, Jane is not the most likeable character; but I for one actually liked her.....I saw through her catty, annoying, lying, self-righteous, self absorbed facade. I enjoyed watching her evolve and could not wait to see her next antic. Baratz-Logsted wrote a very funny story, one that cannot be compared to....very inventive! - I can see it as a movie.
Rating: Summary: Witty and intelligent Review: Written in sparkling prose, this is one engaging read. Loved the heroine, loved the whole setup which made me laugh out loud. Just a perfect summer book (or, for that matter, a fall one, too.)
Rating: Summary: MAYBE a beach read, but not much else Review: Yet another trendy chick-lit book. The characters are predictable and the writing is uninspired. If you're expecting to be entertained, Baratz-Logsted will disappoint. It's hard to ignore the author's voice while you're reading this book, and in this case that's a negative.
Rating: Summary: "A Wonderful Farce" Review: This book is laugh out loud funny. It would make a wonderful film. Jane watches pregnant women getting seats on buses, doors opened for them, and strangers treating them with such goodwill that she decides she wants a piece of the good life. She is thrilled when her period is late, and tells her live-in lover,Trevor, she is pregnant. Although not visibly thrilled, Trevor says he will stand by her and marry her. Jackpot! She soon learns she is not pregnant. Not knowing what to do, she decides to continue being "pregnant" and begins her life of deception. I loved this book! The premise is fresh, new and fun. This first time author is, like her book, fresh and fun. She has created some of the funniest scenes I have ever read. The scene with Jane and her mother discussing names for the baby is priceless.
