Summary: Great fun to read
Review: This book is quirky, original, odd, funny and unpredictable. I had a great deal of fun reading this book. The protagonist is exasperating in the extreme, but one finds one's self cheering her on. Albeit sometimes reluctantly. Her supporting cast of friends and colleagues are interesting and well written. This is a good, enjoyable, off beat book to share with a friend.

Summary: Don't Waste Your Time and $$
Review: I picked this book up thinking it was going to be a quick beach read that would be over quickly. Not the case!!
Although the plot of the story is very intriguing (girl has problems w/ boyfriend, tells boyfriend she might be pregnant, girl finds out she is not preganant yet still keeps up the charade in hopes of keeping her boyfriend around yada yada yada) it falls flat early on.
This book had a very boring intro. and although it became "okay" after the first 120 pages, I would not recommend it to anyone.

Summary: Hated it
Review: I thought this book was completely unrealistic. This girl is obviously a delusional psychopath and in the end, she gets something that in the beginning, she didn't neccessarily want. It's a pretty big something and she's a pretty big whack job for it to be granted so lightly. I hated this book. It gives men a reason to make fun of chic books.

Summary: The perfect gift of laughter for any woman on your list!
Review: Move over Bridget Jones. From the first pages I knew Lauren Baratz Logsted had written a jewel of chick lit. This hilarious fake pregnancy romp will make you hold your ribs with glee, even if you never considered having a baby.
The thin pink line is that of the home pregnancy test pictured on the cover. Jane, a cunning British editor, refuses to give up her pregnant status right away when she discovers she is not having a baby after all. But whenever she tries to end the charade, peer pressure, financial considerations, unexpected circumstances and clever plot twists trap her deeper into the lie. Dreading discovery, Jane leads a complicated double life and even falls in love, all the while brazenly fooling attentive co-workers, friends, and close family.
You want to laugh and you want to cry. You want to talk some sense into the misguided little darling. The story manipulates the reader into accepting the unbelievable. From fake sonograms to maternity clothes, padded tummy and baby showers, Jane makes her share of mistakes as well. On each page you expect the ticking bomb to explode, and you keep reading, to find out how Crazy Jane could possibly pull off this implausible stunt for yet another chapter. Is Jane mad? Certainly. Clever? Without a doubt. Human? Endearingly so.
Are pregnancy symptoms a thing of the mind? Very possibly, as Jane feels them all. Eventually she succeeds in bringing her fake pregnancy all the way to the ninth month. But in the process, Jane also learned about babies and mothers, she re-evaluated her life, her career, her relationships. She now recognizes the value of true love and is finally willing to sacrifice to its altar. Although somewhat contrived, the surprise ending still tastes of serendipity.
The perfect gift of laughter for any woman on your list.

Summary: V. v. unoriginal
Review: I read this book cover to cover, giving it every chance to reach the potential that other reviews saw shining through. For the first 100 pages, I could catch glimpses of a dazzling wit and self-deprecation as well as a remarkable understanding of British culture. However, I was ultimately bitterly disappointed by the "sagging middle" as well as the emotionally dissatisfying end. I reached the end of the book with hopes of another chapter so that I could at least have some resolution for my investment of time and mild interest. Jane continued to disappoint. The characters are only marginally sympathetic at best (I only cared for two characters, neither primary characters) and Jane's troubled childhood didn't play well with me (at least not so that I could forgive her multitude of character sins committed through out the book). While the author does understand some aspects of the trade (intimate and original details, development of memorable- if unlikable- characters), the book ultimately fails as the plodding plot and awful characters left me thankful I'd visited the local library before wasting any of my paltry income on another unsuccessful spin on Bridget Jones. If you seek something other than a read in the loo (or for other purposes there...), stay far from this book!

Summary: Fun and thought-provoking read
Review: This is an entertaining ride that doesn't shy away from protraying the lead character, warts and all, in the clear light of day. If you are looking for the cookie cutter scrappy-underdog-who-beats-the-odds-stacked-against-her tearjerker keep searching. But if you want an original story that keeps you turning the page, this one is for you.

Summary: terrible fraudulent book!
Review: What a pretentious load of piffle this book is! How on earth did it get published? Fake British accent, fake pregnancy, fake emotions, fake literary style = fake novel! THE FAKE PIN LINE!

Summary: Great fun
Review: Watching Jane careen in and out of difficult situations was like watching a high speed car chase, you know something really unusual and exciting is going to happen, but you do not know when or how. Whether you sympathize with Jane, or whether you disagree with her situation, or her views, or her attitudes, you will want to know where her deception takes her, how everyone else reacts, and how she manages to keep her secret.

The author does a marvelous job of developing the characters and the story toward the final scene, and you will want to read to the end to see what Jane decides to do and why.

Overall, a fine, fun book by a talented writer.

Summary: Save a tree - don't buy this book
Review: Thankfully I checked it out from the library but even then I felt guilty that my taxpayers money was used to purchase this. Horrible book. I skimmed the first chapter and read the last page (and a few others) and am so happy I didn't waste my time. One of the worst books I've skimmed ever.

Summary: Oddly inspiring
Review: If you ever had the inkling that you have a novel inside you waiting to get out, let this book be your guiding light. If this author can con someone into publishing her, so can you.

This book is, in a word, unreadable. The dreadful reviews here on amazon were written by people like me who tried to get through this overwraught and overwritten garbage. The 5-star reviews obviously were produced by the author's family, friends and publishing house. Don't be fooled. I noticed almost word-for-word duplicates on another bookseller's site. That's a giveaway that they were the work of people with an agenda.

"Babyville" is a much better humorous take on pregnancy. Even "A Girlfriend's Guide To Pregnancy" has more laughs than this. Thank heavens I borrowed "The Thin Pink Line" from the library and can didn't waste my money.
