Rating: Summary: Heart Wrenching Novel Review: If I had to name my three favorite authors, Alice Hoffman would be right up there with Diane Chamberlain and Chalotte Vale Allen. In Turtle Moon, Alice Hoffman has done a masterful job of showing how a young boy, perceived as "the meanest boy in Verity" is anything but! This mean boy rescues a baby from a murderous father and goes on the run with him. An unforgettable novel about the healing power of love and the folly of making assumptions based on appearances and innuendo.
Rating: Summary: it made you feel with the story and you knew every character Review: In most books you only get to know 2 or 3 people'but in turtlemoon you know the whole town as if you grew up there youself. The story was so very intriguing as to how noone ever is outwardly as they truly are on the inside.
Rating: Summary: its was very nices book Review: It is a mix of murder and magic inte the Florida sunshine as only Hoffman. As well as for having more divoreed women from New York than any other town in the star'te of Florida. Lucy Rosen is one of those women. she has recently moved to Verity, and what she doesn't know yet is that in May, when the turtles come out and crawl across the roads, anything can happen. That was alittle of my reviews
Rating: Summary: Another special book from Alice Hoffman! Review: It would appear that I have arrived late at the party since Turtle Moon is only the third book I've read by Alice Hoffman. And while Practical Magic will most likely always remain my favorite, Turtle Moon, will be a close second. Once again as she does in her other books Alice Hoffman presents her readers with wonderful characters who remain with one long after they close the book. In Turtle Moon, she also describes a place both geographically and spiritually so that if we were set down there tomorrow, we would know our way around. Verity, Florida is the place where more divorced women come to from New York when they leave their husbands. Some come with children who are difficult like Lucy Rosen, while others like Bethany run away on the spur of the moment to leave abusive husbands. Some work at jobs while others hide out with their small children and pawn jewelry for extra cash. And some dread going home to confront their children or to learn that their child has once again been suspended from school. And in this quiet town lives Julian Cash, a policeman with a difficult dog and a difficult past which continues to haunt him. And as if the month of May isn't difficult enough for the residents of this town as sea turtles begin their migration across the streets of Verity, a young woman is found murdered, her baby missing along with Lucy's son who is the worst boy in Verity. Now its up to Julian and Lucy to join together and to find him and the truth out about the murder. And we as readers are like spiders in a web as we move along with the plot, setting and characters of this first rate novel. Hoffman, as usual has filled her book wth many mystical occurrences and images. She has also filled the pages with themes present in some of her other books. In this case, themes such as relationships between spouses, parents and children, guilt for survivng a tragedy and moving on with one's life despite disappointments. Most of all I see this book as a testimony ultimately to running towards and dealing with ones problems. And as in the past books I've read Hoffman fills her pages with a cast of the most endearing characters. From Lucy and her ex-husband to her Aunt and Uncle, from Julian to his cousin, Ghost, from Bethany to her slimy husband, these are people who will live and breath for you within these pages. And eventhough I may have been a late arrival, I am now a happy Alice Hoffman fan looking forward to catching up on her older titles as well as her newest book The River King.
Rating: Summary: And the point was? Review: Led by the Oprah book club, I read "Here on Earth". Although it wasn't my usual type of read, I finished it and thought I would give another Hoffman novel a chance. Why did I waste my time? "Turtle Soup" started out sad and depressing and kept up that pace. I never cared about any of the characters--Lucy and Julian probably deserved one another. It was just a bad bad book. This book would not make it to my recommendation list. (And I do like most of the Oprah books!)
Rating: Summary: Magical, like most of Hoffman's work, but... Review: Like many others, I started with "Here on Earth," and I loved it. I went on to read many more of Hoffman's books, and I have enjoyed all of them. "Turtle Moon" is no exception. The characters are woven together nicely, the only problem being that some of the characters are beautifully-developed while others are hardly developed at all. This leaves the novel feeling rather inconsistent, although it is always enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Sublime and rare as Key Lime Pie Done Right Review: My favorite Hoffman book so far. Sometimes magical realism gets a little too cloying for my taste, but Hoffman cuts the sweetness with a little acidity and tang. As a Florida native, it's nice to see a writer really get the sense of place right. Even though Verity is fictional, it's so compellingly described you half believe you've seen that exit on the Florida Turnpike.
Rating: Summary: Still my favourite Review: My husband and I have read all of Alice Hoffman's books and this still remains our favourite. If you have been disappointed or put off by her other novels then I suggest you read this one and am confident you will change your mind.

Rating: Summary: One Of Alice Hoffman's Better Novels Review: Readers of other Alice Hoffman novels will detect some familiar themes here: a misfit young boy, a misfit animal who relates to the misfit young boy, a misfit man and woman who try to find a fit with each another. But there's also a plot that moves along briskly, a focus on several conflicted and well-developed characters (not too many or too few), and an upbeat ending that reflects the bittersweet aspects of real life. If you like Alice Hoffman, you won't be bored or depressed by this one.
