Rating: Summary: Next, on the Jerry Spring show... Review: The tone of this book annoyed me to the end. I kept reading because I expected a big finish - nothing. Kate Sinclair whined through the entire book, and never developed any backbone or moral character. She should have stopped enabling Jo Lynn years before. The protagonist does not have to be perfect, but for me it needs to be at least someone that I would be able to have some respect for. Plus, it didn't seem like she learned anything - she was still the same, and luckily for her her family dynamics had changed. This was no "See Jane Run" and excellent Fielding novel.
Rating: Summary: Fast-paced contemporary fun-reading, a real pleasure Review: This book is a nice break from more serious heavy reading. Any woman over 30 who has ever had a child, husband, mother or sister must read this. Humerous yet with a fast paced plot. I read it in a 24 hour period. The characters are fun and believable and lovable. This was my first Joy Fielding book and I will certainly seek out others.
Rating: Summary: another enjoyable book from Joy Fielding Review: This book was a pleasure to read. Even with the holiday baking and entertaining, I managed to finish it within 2 days. It followed a predictable believable course. The ending was somewhat a surprise, not so much in the what as in the who!
Rating: Summary: An Outstanding Read! Review: This tale tops Ms. Fielding's superb earlier efforts. She presents compelling characters in a tightly wound plot that builds tension with every page and leads to an unexpected conclusion. The subplots, in some ways, are even more "charged" than the main "terror" tale. I can't wait for her next book.
Rating: Summary: Not Jane Fielding's best work. Review: This was the first Jane Fielding book I read and I'm glad I didn't let it deter me - but it would some. I knew her reviews were good, so I gave her another chance. I urge others to do the same. This book was predictable. It also focused much more, or at least too much, on details about West Palm Beach. All that wasn't necessary - for that I could've picked up a free travel book from AAA!
Rating: Summary: I was Completely Impressed! Review: This was the first time I have read Joy Fielding and definitely won't be the last. I have been reading a lot of true crime of late (which this is not), and happened to pick this up in the airport. I could not believe the utter detail and ability to create such clear visual images for the reader. By the time I finished (2 days), I felt like I knew the characters like old friends.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED this book!! Joy Fielding is the best! Review: What a pity that Joy Fielding produces so few books. This latest offering is (as usual) impossible to put down. Believable characters. A tight plot.
You're going to love it.
Rating: Summary: Wild..Crazy.. Review: What in the world was the sister in this book thinking?!? The stuff this woman had to go thru with her family is unreal. Great book!
Rating: Summary: Joy Fielding is the best author at her genre! Review: When I was looking for some good books of suspense on my usual bookshop, I never imagined I was going to buy the best suspense book I've ever read. This is because Joy Fielding was new to me (and soon I discovered she's MUCH BETTER than another famous author that writes in her same genre, Mary Higgins Clark), and MISSING PIECES was going to be my first try on her books. I bought the book, but soon discovered that she was published in Portuguese here in Brazil and tried first the ones in my language. When I finished the one in Portuguese, I started MISSING PIECES, and oh my Godness... it's completely wonderful. It's a book full of twists and it's also funny and becomes more and more interesting as the story develops. When I finished the book I was sad because it was over and I wanted it to never end. That's the feeling that you have when finish Joy's books. MISSING PIECES is no exception. I'd also recommend: LIFE PENALTY, DON'T CRY NOW and other books by Joy.
Rating: Summary: A terrific tale of a therapist who can't heal her own family Review: Wow! I can't believe I've never read a Joy Fielding book before! While nominally a "crime story" (a major plot point involves the protagonist's sister, who wants to marry an accused serial killer), this book is like the tale of the cobbler whose own family went unshod. Kate, the protagonist, is a successful therapist who can't see or fix the obvious problems in her own family; her sister's fascination with Colin, the accused serial killer, her mother's encroaching Alzheimer's disease, her teenaged daughter's rebellion, or even her own dissatisfaction with her husband and home life. While the crime story has an all-too predictable end, anyone who's ever wrestled with wacky siblings, hormone-crazed children, aging parents or a spouse who's "lost that lovin' feeling" will identify with Kate's inability to cope. The characters are extremely well-drawn, and I'm definitely going to get another Fielding book to read.
