Summary: Characterization woven with conflict and detail
Review: Everyone, you have to read this book you will never regreat it! I can not express the emotion I felt when I read this book. I was the kind of person who pretended that the war didn't really happen. I didn't even want to watch war movies. But after reading all three Children of the Promise (I'm on the waiting list for the 4th book) I respect the people that lived during the war and everything the had to suffer through. These books have taught me so much that I can proudly say that i would fight for my counry and my freedom.

Summary: which book is the best
Review: Hughes writes a great book children of the promise, but i don't he is any better than Lund because i loved The work and the Glory they are both good books.

Summary: A Remarkable Series
Review: I don't usually (in fact I can't ever recall doing it) give a 5-star review..but these books by Dean Hughes are amazing. They paint the picture of an LDS family caught up in WWII.

The reader follows one son in a Japanese labor camp, another as a top-notch paratrooper..a daughter serving as a nurse in Hawaii...and more. As a younger person, I learned a lot about this particular time period. I love historical fiction..it really gives the reader a taste of a different era.

The book may not have the spirituality of Gerald Lund's saga, but it's much more well-written. Hughes avoids all of the Lund-isms. His characters don't have group hugs whenever they get together. They don't grin sheepishly..or any of a dozen other phrases. Well worth reading.

Summary: THIS IS MY FAVORITE BOOK OF THE SERIES THUS FAR.
Review: I FELT WE WERE TRULY GIVEN INSIGHT INTO HOW EACH OF THE CHARACTERS WERE THINKING- FROM THE SOLDIERS ON THE FRONT LINE ON BOTH SIDES TO THOSE WAITING AT HOME. I FELT SUCH EMPATHY WITH THEM. THE RESEARCH IS TREMENDOUS-IHAVE LEARNED SO MUCH OF MY PARENTS ERA. IT WILL BE A LONG YEAR!

Summary: This series is spell binding, very difficult to set it down.
Review: I have read all three vol. of this series. Its not quite as emotional as Vol. 2 was. It covers the war front on both the European and Pacific threater during WWII. I've read this book in a couple of days, and have several other people waiting their turn to read it. I highly recomend this book. I just wish that Vol.4 would come out sooner than a year from now.

Summary: Great continuation of the WWII saga.
Review: I really enjoy the vast exploration of the multiple characters in the novel. I felt that Dean Hughes spreads out the characters well and keeps you on your toes making for intense reading.

Summary: it will keep you up reading to the end
Review: I think each volume gets better. I just wish the next one would come sooner.

Summary: The story keeps getting better.
Review: I'm amazed at how Dean Hughes keeps these books so interesting. By the time you finish this book, you will have read something like 1300+ pages of the same story, yet its still such an amazing one, and the interest level only increases. This series is the best of any that I have ever read. Volume # 3 involves some of the worst times of the war, and the suffering is painful to read at times, yet it is such a blessing to know the sacrafices of those who lived during those times.

Summary: Next book of the series will be out in September
Review: I'm pleased--and rather overwhelmed--by the response to these books. Everyone asks me when I will get the next one out. I'm working hard on it and expect to see it published in September, 1999.
