Rating: Summary: Really believable characters Review: Maeve Binchy is unique in that 500 pages doesn't seem any longer than a Mary Higgins Clark book. Her description of the numerous characters in this book were consistent and believable. That really helped to keep this going. As always, though, I felt like I hadn't learned the whole story of any of the characters except for Aidan and Signora. Maybe I need more of a resolution ending for characters I care about. And, with many of Binchy's books, you just don't get all that much resolution. I would love to read spin-offs of some of the characters in this book. A lot of fun - great for spring.
Rating: Summary: good but not her best Review: i'm always eager to read maeve binchy's books. i never hesitate to get her, or elizabeth george's, latest title. although maeve continues to skillfully weave together the disparate lives that happen to intersect in an evening class, i didn't care for the characters that much. my two favorite titles of hers are "circle of friends" and "light a penny candle" (which i'm currently re-reading). in any case, any student of human nature will be enthralled by her books, and i continue to be completely blown away by her writing talent.
Rating: Summary: I am reading this book right now! Review: This is my first Maeve Binchy novel, and I have to say it is absolutely incredible! Normally, I don't go for fiction that doesn't fit in a category...you know, Romance, Horror, Mystery, etc., but I am ever so pleased. I haven't completed the book yet (I'm on the chapter about Laddy), but I just couldn't wait to try another one of her books--last night I went to the bookstore and purchased nine of her previous works! I've got plenty of reading to entertain me for a while and looking forward to finding out the conclusion to this fantastic book, The Evening Class.
Rating: Summary: An Excellent READ Review: I started reading Maeve Binchy books about five years ago when I was sent the "Copper Beech" as a gift. When I finished it I had to get the rest of her books, and I have never been dissapointed yet. This book kept my attention until the very end. I had no problem what so ever keeping the characters straight. She always makes her characters seem real and alive. You feel a compassion for her characters right away until the very end. I always wait anxiously for her next book to come out in print. To me she is a first class writer. Who else can write such interesting books time after time. Keep up the work Ms. Binchy I look foreward to reading the next book.
Rating: Summary: a goor read for spring Review: I am a fan of Maeve Binchy, and although I didn't enjoy this as much as the Glass Lake, I still had a hard time putting it down. Every spring I get the itch to do something new, and start over-this was a good book to read and find out about the new adventures of the evening class. Too bad real evening classes aren't this exciting.
Rating: Summary: One of Maeve Binchy's Best Review: What a wonderful life affirming story! I pity anyone who isn't able to recognize what an amazing gift this book is. One can only assume that they're too consumed with bitter cynicism to embrace this great story. This book made real all of lifes amazing and wonderful possibilities in the midst of the (seemingly) most ordinary and mundane aspects of peoples home and work lives.
It was everything that I've come to know and love about Ms. Binchys books and I couldn't help but feel a bit sad and lonely when it ended.
Too hard to put down it would be best saved for vacation reading or a rainy day by the fire.
Give yourself over to it and be prepared to find yourself at a travel agency afterward checking on trips to Italy.
Rating: Summary: very entertaining fiction with a memorable teacher, Signora Review: Glad to see EVENING CLASS coming out in paperback; it's escapist fiction at its best. Would a young Irish woman spend 26 years in a small town in Sicily just to be near the married man she loves? You will believe that "Signora" has done this, and then returned to Dublin to teach the evening class that will transform the lives of all her students.Very entertaining pop fiction.
Rating: Summary: She writes about ordianry people, with simple plot, but real Review: Again, again, and again Maeve Binchy has keep me sitting reading her books for hours. If you are a type of person who doesn't have much time I suggest you not to read Maeve Binchy's books, because once you get hold of it you will never put it down. In her latest she has again succesfully mesmerize me, I read it from cover to cover in one night. Although it is already expected that she has ordinary people in her plot, she still amuzes her readers. What is scary about her books is that these things can happen in real life. If you wanna laugh, cry, have a little suspense, read her books. Maeve Binchy I don't easily cry, but you made me cry in the last part of the story when they all sang a song and had tears in their eyes.
Rating: Summary: One of Binchy's Best! Review: No, Maeve Binchy's books are not earth-shattering fiction, but for simple, total enjoyment I have yet to come across anything like them. I read most of this book in a snow-bound ski house in New Hampshire with a fire going and it was one of the most enjoyable reading experiences I have ever had! Just delightful!
Rating: Summary: another loveable and quick-read book by Binchy Review: Binchy writes as always fascinating portraits of ordinary people. This book are woven together by these portraits and you know that they will all meet and continue the portraits through these meetings. You can't put this book aside until you have finished it, a good sign of a good book.
