Rating: Summary: page turning Review: When I read this book I fell out of my world and got into to another. I stop thinking about my problems and began to understand life through this book. It showed me that things are still the same just different people. I enjoyed reading this book and I hope to find more like it.
Rating: Summary: Wow, what a great book!!!! Review: I ordered this book from the Black Expressions book club and could not put it down once I began reading it. The characters were fantastic. I don't know if this is the first book by this author but I commend her on a great job and I can't wait to read many more books by her. Keep up the great work!!!
Rating: Summary: The gift of self-love Review: The gift of self love was lost on young Annette. Unfortunately this extreme lack of self love and worth was noted by Mr. Boatwright. This book left my with my mouth open and my eyes teary. The life of Annette so related closely to my own that I could not help but become angered at the adults and her for being sooo blind. How can a child learn to trust when the ones who she is supposed look up to for protection are the very ones who are inflicting her emotionally and physically with so much pain. And Rhoda, God Bless as crazy as she was. There was only so much that she would take. This book takes you through an emotional journey that makes you wonder. "What would you do?" Hats off to the author for writing such an prolific novel on a very interesting friendship.
Rating: Summary: Get this book today Review: Mary Monroe addressed an issue that is often very touchy in our society, sexual abuse. Through the protagonist, Annette, she helps us to understand the thoughts/actions of sexual abuse victims and the reasons for their silence. Growing up can be a trying time for young people everywhere and reading this novel helps to put things in perspective. Monroe does a great job and this is a must, must, must, read.
Rating: Summary: Long Read Review: It took me along time to finally get through this one. It was very slow at the beginning, and ended up being alittle bit too predictable. Annette made me think she really enjoyed the relationship between her and Mr. Boatwright, and her mother was alittle bit too naive. Rhoda and her whole family were unrealistic, and the whole story seemed not to have a point. I thought it would be better than what it turned out to be.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!!! Review: EXCELLENT! EXCELLENT! THIS BOOK, HAS EVERYTHING. I COULDN'T PUT THIS BOOK DOWN. I WOULD FIND MYSELF TRYING TO READ IT AT WORK OR ANY PLACE THAT I HAD A FEW MINUTES. THIS IS A MUST READ. VERY ENJOYABLE , INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING
Rating: Summary: Oh, what a wonderful tale! Review: You go, Ms. Monroe! This touching, sometimes funny, sometimes tearful novel is ALWAYS entertaining! Ms. Monroe's writing style has you loving some of the characters and dispising others. She takes you on a journey with the book's main character, Annette, from her young, trauma filled years to her blossoming into a beautiful young woman in spite of her circumstances. The other characters in the book only add to the appeal of the book. The detailing is wonderful and Ms. Monroe actually "takes" the reader to Annette's home, Annette's city--you can actually feel the characters and the surroundings. I've already recommended this book to all my family and friends who are avid readers. THIS ONE IS TOO GOOD TO MISS!!
Rating: Summary: What a wordy book. Review: I found this book to be very wordy and truly unbelievable. How can she depict people to be so naive at this time. What was on her mind? The character, Annette had this protective attitude towards her mother and everyone else but herself. The book was too descriptive and boring at times. Rhoda turned out to be the story not Annette. The theme was interesting but the way it was written was not. I couldn't wait get through with the book. It did not grab me and I would not recommend it to anyone.
Rating: Summary: I hope this gifted author writes many, many books! Review: I loved this wonderful book! Ms. Monroe is truly a gifted, blessed writer. The characters are rich and well developed. While I was reading I felt like I was watching a wonderful, complex movie. I look forward to her next work.
Rating: Summary: a must read book Review: I loved this book the writer did very good in telling the story of how young people get molested and how afraid they are of telling anyone about what happen, and this happens everyday. I hope she writes another part to this book, good luck.
