Rating: Summary: NOT SO FOND OF PRETTY Review: THIS BOOK WAS WELL WRITTEN AND THE STORY WAS WELL DEVELOPED.THE PROBLEM I HAD WAS THE FACT THAT ANNETTE ALLOWED THE SECUAL ABUSE TO GO ON FOR YEARS AND SHE DISN;T STOP IT ONCE SHE WAS OLD ENOUGH AND COULD PROBABLY HURT OLD BOATRIGHT (MAYBE WITH HIS OWN PEGGED LEG). HER MOTHER WAS TOO TRUSTING OF THIS STRANGE MAN JUST BECAUSE HE WAS INTRODUCED BY THE CHURCH.RHONA WAS A DEMON AND I THINK SHE WAS PROUD OF HER OWN ACTIONS. WHAT HAPPENED TO HER BABY WAS THE PRICE SHE HAD TO PAY.ALSO TO GRANNY GOOSE ,THE POLICEMAN AND APRIL. DAVID WAS A VICTIM.
Rating: Summary: OOOH!!! So Well Written Review: This was a very good book. All the characters kept me guessing all the time and wondering what was next. Annette, her part was well thought out and written. She reminded me of some of the many foster children I've had come thur my house. Rhonda, was the most evil person within to be such a pretty and smart young lady but I guess with her baby's death I guess she got back some of what she deserved. Florence, sense of Mr. Boatwright been a very "NASTY" old man was so correct being that she couldn't see very well then not at all. I really enjoyed this book from chapter to chapter this is a must read.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I recently read this book for the first time and I really enjoyed it. The time frame for the novel is between the 1960's and 70's but the issues in the novel are still relevant for today. This is a must read. I give it 5+ stars.
Rating: Summary: God Don't Like Ugly But He Sure Would Enjoy This Book! Review: This book rocked I have read it three times and passed it on to friends! Everyone who has read it said it was great.
Rating: Summary: An Interesting Read Review: God Don't Like Ugly is a statement that we have all used at one time or another. And while reading this wonderful book by Mary Monroe I caught myself saying it over and over again while waiting to see when the Ugly is going to get its just do. This is the story about a very insecure girl name Annette, who was molested by Mr. Boatwright, the person her mother brought into their home to help out with her and other household activities. Annette had no one to turn to not even her mother, that is until she became friends with Rhonda, the pretty girl across the street. She eventually confide in Rhonda about the molestation and things evolved from there. You'll have to read God Don't Like Ugly to find out what. Everyone that wonders what goes through the minds of people who are molested because the first thing that pops into your head when you hear about it is "What were they thinking, why didn't they tell anyone?" Well you'll find out if you read this book. Ms. Monroe takes you through the mind of Annette and some of the other characters as well. I look forward to seeing what else happens with these characters in the sequel.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I loved this book! I couldn't put it down at first, but then I didn't want it to end so I took my time with the ending. It's a great story with teriffic characters. There were many times when I got chills while reading this, and I felt contented when I finished the book.
Rating: Summary: Did Not LIke!!!!! Review: I only read this book b/c I am in a bookclub and I would not have personally pick this book up. This book was about [someone] getting molested and ... a killer. Oh and where was Annette's mother? Out working with her legs or mouth open!! Annettes's mother(muh dear) was naive to leave her daughter alone in the house while she go out and work. She did not know Mr. Boatwright. She just thought that it was convient to have him there while she work and she still had someone to watch Annette. I flet that Rhona did not care about the people around her until something bad would happen to her. Rhona wanted things her way or else. I was very frustrated with the charaters in this book. I suggest that if you don't want to read about a person getting molested then do not pick this one.
Rating: Summary: What A Book! Review: This book is a must read. It is so true, when they say God Doesn't Like Ugly. I enjoyed each character in this book. It reminded me that God puts no more on your shoulders than you can bear. The ugliest things that may happen to you in life can result in a beautiful outcome.
Rating: Summary: Commendable First Try Review: I received this book as part of a book club as well. I started it and could not sleep until I completed it. Ms. Monroe's character development was excellent. She alternated making each main character a sympathetic character. One could not hate any of them because she fed little pieces of their lives to you in increments. Her development of Mr. Boatwright was remarkable. Although his acts were heinous, she allowed the reader to explore his thought process without being too merciful on him. Much like real life, no bad person is without good traits. Ms. Monroe depicted this in her villain. It was certainly a wonderful first work for the author. I will eagerly await her next publication.
Rating: Summary: A Touching and Moving Experience Review: I can not imagine anyone reading this book and not growing angry because of the abuse that the young lady must endure at the hands of a one-legged man that her mother trusts enough to take into their home. While at first, I was hoping she would shout out her problems to the world to put an end to the anguish, I grew to appreciate the author letting it drag out for years. Why? Because it really happens like that. I was watching a talk show the other day and the guest was a woman that was abused by her stepfather from the ages of 3 to 27. The characters in this novel are flushed out beautifully and you will be riveted to the pages. Mary Monroe did a wonderful job with this novel and I can not wait to read whatever she publishes next.
