Summary: God don't like ugly, but He loves this book
Review: After reading a few books that went no where, this book took me on an emotional trip. I mean that in a good way. You are there and you feel everything. As a molestation victim myself, I cannot express how important this book was to me. It not only makes you think about the importance of carefully monitoring who is in your child's life, but also makes you explore the family composition as a whole. Read this book---over and over again. I promise that you will not regret it.

Summary: A must read for teachers
Review: God don't like ugly portrays a girl name Annette Goodie. She is a girl that is very over weight, low self - esseem, dark skin and in the eyes of the public ugly. As a child her mother keeps her quite and uncurious by feeding her lots of food. Her mother was under the impresion that he is a bad girl at all times. Now remind you that she is poor and I really have never seen a dirt poor child extremely over weight. Her mother takes in a boarder name Mr.Boatwright. Her mother allows him to spank her when need. He then rapes her at the tender age of seven. Taking her innocents, purity, dignity. Because she is so nieve and innocent she believes no one will believes her if she tells someone because she is unsitely to the eyes of some people. This sexual abuse went on for seventeen years! It is a regular thing by pleasuring this sick man almost everyday. She soon meets a beautiful, fairskin, green eyed girl girl named Rhonda. She is also not like by some of the commuinty because of their ignorance of being an undertakers daughter. She exposes Annette the life of being a teenager and loving herself for who is.Annette tells Rhonda her secret of her abuse that took place for years. Rhonda does something that will change Annettes life for the good even though she does not realize it.This book was magnificent! Mary Monreo is an excellent writer which makes you laugh and cry.The one thing that I could not believe is that fact that the whole community knew this man spent every moment he could with her in that house. No one suspected a thing what he was doing to her. This book portaryed a test of friendship and loyalty. Of all people to not suspect a thing,it was her own mother. This is a book for college and high school students to read about the horrors of sexual abuse. As a Public School teacher I see girls like annette all the time. Being over weight, not pretty enough, poor, and still today with a combination with dark skin is something I see a lot in my time as a teacher. Maybe this book can open our eyes of noticing the people such as annette, as beauitful, smart, caring, loving, and being a human being, with out labeling her ugly, darkskin, over weight. Please read this book! Please!

Summary: God Did I Love This Book!
Review: This book was great! I could not put it down... I ended up falling asleep reading it because I just could not stop! I loved the book but the author leaves some of it unknown! I really wanted the girl to hook up with a childhood friend, but they never say if it's for life! Otherwise, this was an awesome book!

Summary: Powerful, Dramatic, Intriguing and so much more...
Review: I recently read Mary Monore's, God Don't Like Ugly and I must say I enjoyed this book. It can be upsetting to say the least since the story is about a young girl name Annette, who's sexually abused by her mother's tenant Mr.Boatwright. She's a lonely, scared, troubled and depressed and overweight girl until she meets and becomes bestfriends with Rhoda Nelson. Things begin to change for the both of them as their friendship blooms, with each passing year. Their lives will never be the same again. Throughout the story you'll also meet unforgettable characters like, "Muh'Dear", Granny Goose, Uncle Johnny, Aunt Lola, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, Aunt Bernice, Pee Wee, Jock, Scary Mary and more. I was delighted and hopeful when Annette and Rhoda became friends and could see and sense their need for one another. I'm glad they had one another and did what they could to help one another through some difficult times. I couldn't get enough of this book and can't wait until pt.2 is released next year. I have many unanswered questions, that I'm sure will be answered then. Though this is a touchy and taboo topic for many people, it is true to life and needs to be addressed. Victims of rape and molestation need to be heard and helped. Their abusers need to be held accountable to the highest degree. Mothers need to be careful about the men they choose to live with regardless of the situation. This story proves that, even if it's fiction and happened during a different time era. Thanks Mary for giving a voice to this topic and victim. Looking forward to God Still Don't Like Ugly ...

Summary: Overall a great read...
Review: After struggling and then giving up on "The Upper Room", I was a little reluctant to read this book. But curiosity got the better of me. The whole childhood scenario was a page-turner. I recommended this book to anybody who looked at the cover twice. My only problem with it is that after they grew up, the book desperately dragged on when it was just fine leaving it at the childhood scenes and then saying "The End". I was disappointed in Jock and Pee Wee's vague turn-outs but other than that, I'd say 75% of the book was five stars and the rest of it (the growing up years) was one star. Averaged out to four stars!

Summary: THE LUCKY PREDATOR
Review: The way I see it, Mr. Boatwright was non-other than a predator on the loose,A man with a voracious sexual appetite, that wasn't being satisfied. Fortunately, on the day he met Mrs. Goode, His needs became a thing of the past. He did not have to hunt for his prey like most predators. He was diligently taking to his prey where he feasted for ten years, until he died a peaceful death.

...This man abused this child practically from her cradle to near adulthood.

Annette and her mother were in this world all alone. A family tree consisting of two branches. And Mr. Boatwright took advantage of that. That's why I call him the lucky predator.

This was the first book I read by this author. Although, I was disappointed in the main character(Anette)for her lack of courage, It was still an interesting story.

Summary: totally dissapointed
Review: This book was good if you want to get depressed. It didnt seem to have any conclusion at all. I'm still waiting for the point of it. I'm an avid reader, especially of black authors and I must say I was very dissapointed in this. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Summary: Oh My Goodness, Oh My Goodness!
Review: A Page turner. I couldn't put this book down. The friendship between Annette and Rhoda were unreal. She needed someone to stand up for her since her mother was too naive to notice one of her man friends was molesting her only child.

Concerning Rhoda, I'm convinced that the lights were on, but nobody was home. She was fierce, killing people without a conscience. They should have just nicknamed her Murder Inc. There were so many twists and turns to this book, you'll just have to read it for yourself.

Review: This was actually the first book I read by Mary Monroe. It was excellent. i was not ready for the ending which left me with my mouth hanging open. i was not expecting the turn of events. Ms.Monroe always held my interest from the beginning to the end. This was well written and i wish her much success. If you have not read this book, please do.
