Summary: A real Tear Jerker
Review: God don't like Ugly was one of the most emotional books that I have ever read. While I was reading it, I felt as if I were right there amongst the characters. I felt as if I could relate to what Annette was going through. Mary Monroe really has a way with words. This book helps people to understand what it is like for people who are emotionally distressed. There was excitment, surprise, deception, and heartbreak with the turn of every page. While reading this book I related with the charcters even more than I do with people in real life. I laughed when they laughed, I was angry, surprised, and scared when they were. And I even cried when they cried. It was a wonderful book and a privelege to read it. This privelege should be shared by everyone in the world.

Summary: I see why
Review: I was extremly bored reading this book, although it recounts a tale of extreme hardship of young overweight Annette, who suffers repeated sexual abuse the characters are more interesting than the very predictable melodrama.

Summary: An excellent novel...
Review: This book was so good. I could not put it down. The writer was so good at letting you get inside the major characters minds. You could feel what the characters were feeling and understand why they saw things the way they did. You feel very invested in Annette's journey -- seeing how she continues to survive and grow in the face of adversity. A very powerful and satisfying read.

Summary: God really doesn't like ugly...
Review: I've never read a book by Mary Monroe, but boy does she capture your attention as soon as you start to read. The characters are so powerful, which I started to doubt if Annette would come out of her shell and see that looks aren't everything. The book was great. You were in the shoes of Annette, so you started to fill her pain through her experience. Mary Monroe did a wonderful job writing this book. It was hard to put down, but I did to get some sleep. :) Happy Reading...

Summary: The Bomb Book
Review: ...this is the best book I have ever read. This book some teenagers can really relate to. But I suggest everybody buy this book. I've done read it 4 to 5 times already since I've bought it!!! I can't wait til the sequel come out! In this book I have to say my favorite character was Rhonda. Annette was making me mad by not telling her mama what Mr.Boatwright was doing to her. I think with out Rhonda in this book then Annette would really be lost. I really like this book alot and I think it deserves 10 stars or more. Thank You for reading my review And also Mary Monroe you truly got skillz...!

Summary: Great Book
Review: I thought this was the best book I have every read. I don't think I could ever find a book that can make you feel as if you were right there with them. I loved the way it was written. It really just drawns you in. You feel what each character is going through. I had never read a book by Mary Monroe. I would read other books by her now that I read this one. She did a great job. I am a fan now.

Summary: "God Don't Like Ugly"
Review: Jasmine W. Lowe
'God Don't Like Ugly'
God Don't Like Ugly is a story of a girl name Annette Goode. Annette was a shy, overweight, dark-skinned young girl who went through a lot during her life. When she was young her and her mother moved and a man name Mr. Boatright moved in with them. Throughout the first year Mr. Boatright replaces the absence of little Annette's dad. In the second year Mr. Boatright starts sexually abusing Annette who was only seven years old. he continues to do it for the next ten year of Annette's life.
When Annette moved into her new house she meets a girl name Rhoda, who becomes her life long friend. Rhoda is everything Annette would like to be, beautiful, strong, smart, thin, and light-skinned. Rhoda lives in a house with her father who is a Negro undertaker, her white grandmother, referred as Granny Goose, her white Uncle Johnny, and her brother Jock. Having Rhoda as a friend helps Annette in some ways and in some ways it doesn't.
The book was very interesting, I never was bored once reading it. It's an excellent novel. In some of the characters one might find characteristics of themselves. I can relate to Annette. Sometime I feel like the shy fat girl who has no friends and searchers for a person to confide in. The difference between Annette and I is that I haven't been sexually abused. Then on the other hand, I feel like I can also relate to Rhoda. Sometimes a person has to stick up for themselves and not take so much drama from people. I really don't like when people try to take advantage of other people. There is also a difference between Rhoda and I, some things that I thought Rhoda wasn't cable of I wouldn't do.
I recommend this book to people who love to stay reading and really interested in books. While reading the book you never want to put it down, you will always want to know what's going to happen next.

Summary: Good story, but the writing doesn't quite measure up
Review: A somewhat predictable tale of urban coming-of-age, full of the usual cast of characters: the man who done her wrong, the good bad girl, the bad good girl, family secrets, absent or no-good fathers...
But it was the repetitiousness of the writing that began to bore me before long; Ms. Monroe needed a better editor.

Summary: Read on...
Review: This was a truly amazing novel written by Mary Monroe. When I read the first page, I knew Mr. Boatwright was no good but anyways Annette suffered so much during her life time. Being raped and not having one good friend intil she meets Rhoda, Rhoda was a slim, beautiful green eyed girl that could have any man she wanted but in a way her and Annette we're still the same and shared the same interests. While reading this novel I felt tears down my eyes because how much the character suffered but at the end, Annette finds her way through without Rhoda when things start getting ugly. The title is not based on Annette's looks because she was a truly beautiful woman, I bet but it's based on what you do and what Mr. Boatwright and Rhoda did was defenitly ugly. If you love reading novels, any kind, read this one because this is real and it shows how real people suffer.
