Rating: Summary: And the point is... Review: I really thought I was buying a book about a strong, committed couple who could handle anything. Instead, its about a nasty, conniving millionaire who breaks into a marraige and convinces the heroine she can have even more if she leaves her husband and marries him. The characters are mostly very shallow and their love and committment are a sham. What exactly is the message? Pack up and leave the first time you're tempted? Always go for the big paycheck? Lie, cheat and steal? This book will make you drop your diet, get drunk, and sleep with your neighbor!
Rating: Summary: This book is rather boring... Review: I picked up this book at the airport and carried it with from US to Europe, then to Asia and back to US. I couldn't stand reading this book for more than 15 minutes during my numerous long flights. The plot is old, conversations repetitive, totally predictable story line and ending. I have not read any other Danielle Steel books before and I don't think I'll read one anytime soon. Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: A Literary Disaster Review: For Danielle Steele to publish this book, let alone put her name on the cover, is shameful. It was redundant, pointless, and lacked a plot. When I was reading this book, I would finding myself looking at a paragraph and thinking, "wait...didn't I read this a few moments ago?" In the past, Danielle Steele has written books that at times might have seemed overly dramatic, but her forte has always been her intricate plot. Her books were considered to be "page-turners" because she was always adding to the story. However, she fails to do so in this book because there is hardly a story being told. When I finished this book, instead of sitting there considering what I had just finished reading; I was left thinking, "Surely it wasn't Danielle Steele who actually wrote this." That is my final though in this review: If you're looking for one of Danielle Steele's captivating and romantic stories, look for one that was written at least five years ago.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your money! Review: Rationalization for adultery and Investment Banking 101. Don't waste your time or money.
Rating: Summary: Not worth it Review: More than anything, I was disturbed by the message that this book conveys, that fleeting feelings are more important than a 15 year marriage. I think the outcome could have been much better! It made me sad. Besides that, it was a very hum drum book, and was quite predictable. Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: not good! Review: i don't know what kind of world the people in this book are from--but obviously not the real one. or maybe, sadly enough, it is. maybe people really do behave this shabbily--luckily not anyone i know. i'm not saying people don't "fall out of love" and get divorced, fall in love with a co-worker, divorce and remarry. but for heaven's sake, why write about it and glamourize it. when it happens, it's not pretty and i certainly don't consider it "entertainment". what makes it seem not "real-world" is that ususally when this happens, a couple is already having problems--however, in this book, the couple is portrayed as happy and loving and totally together for 14 years. then in the space of 2 short months, the wife is questioning everything about her husband and marriage that up until 2 short months ago were PERFECT--give us a break! and cal is a total snake--it is obvious from the beginning that he was setting out to destroy this marriage because he saw something that he wanted--how unlikeable is that! it would be slightly more forgiveable if he began to develop a relationship with meridith after learning that she was in an unhappy marriage, but it seemed that the more she defended her marriage and her choices, the harder he worked to undermine them--very shabby danielle steele. please don't glamorize home-wrecking and adultery--your readers expect better of you.
Rating: Summary: Irresistible Forces Review: Danielle Steel has obviously forgotten how to write an original book, have an original idea, or at least one of any interest. This book dragged on and on, nothing much happened in the book to make it exciting, and the only character that you really end up liking is the husband of the main character. In fact, I actually hoped the main character would end up unhappy. Irresistible Forces was repetitive, Steel used the same filler words over and over, like a teenager would trying to reach the word requirement of an essay paper. As a fan of Danielle Steel (of her older books), I really think she has forgotten how to write, so she sticks with a generic form that she uses for all of her books, and just changes the character names and location, and obstacle to overcome. She obviously is trying to hit her QUANTITY requirement on her contract, rather than take the time to write an new, interesting QUALITY book. She did a great job in earlier books (like Messages From Nam), but now her writing is just recycled, boring stuff. Save your money!!!
Rating: Summary: Realistic yet sentimental Review: Danielle Steel does a GREAT job in Irresistible Forces in telling a story of todays hectic, hussle and bussle world and how sometimes love should conqure all... even if it means questioning our views about right and wrong... good guys and bad guys... and marriage. This book got me to think... or re-evaluate... marriage and following your heart. Sometimes when you lose... you win. I simply loved this book. The beginning may seem a little long with the character development, but how else are you supposed to fall in love with the characters, and the book coming to fruition is well worth the read. I LOVED IT!!!
Rating: Summary: Irresistible Forces Review: This is one of the worst books I'v ever had the misfortune of picking up. It is boring, it seems like Danielle Steele took a 20 page short story and lengthened it by telling you the same thing over and over and over and over. It is also predictible, right from the beginning I had figured out the couple would split up, I know that and I still haven't managed to finish the book. I am a person who can usually finish a fiction novel of this length in two days, I have been reading this one of and on for four months because I can't stomach more than two pages at a time. It is really dreadful and can't beleive it comes from the author of Message From Nam and other good books.
Rating: Summary: My first Danielle Steel book- Review: This book was my first book I have read by Danielle Steel, so I had an open mind when I started it. I liked how she brought forth the "today" relationship- each one is involved in their own occupation and then they rarly have time for each other, which lead to problems for them too. There were a few twists and turns in this book but not too many that are unnexpected. It was your basic love story and many books have been written in this fashion.
