Summary: Nearly direct re-telling of "Wuthering Heights"
Review: For an unoriginal premise (directly using the plot and characterizations of Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights"), this is an interesting modernization of a literary classic that is too often simplified into a romance novel. One reader/reviewer here asked where else one could find such a riveting villain/hero as Hollis...go back to the original and read the real Heathcliff. (And remember, the beautiful film with Laurence Olivier and Merle Oberon covers only the first 19 chapters of Bronte's novel.)

Summary: An Explanation
Review: I can understand why some people gave this book only 1 star, they hated the abuser. It's natural for human emotions to take order and take control, but this book suceeded in making many people steam and vent and ultimately (either for better or for worse, your call) hate the book.

Alice Hoffman is a very talented author and it shows with this book. What other book out there can lead you to fall in love with a character, only to hate him in the end because he developed and became older and viewed life in a harsher way?

Here On Earth is one of the most realistic and painful books I have ever read...good job Hoffman.

Summary: Hollis is Heathcliff, and that's the beauty of this story
Review: Alice Hoffman has come up with one of the best and most terrible character/villain/man I have ever read. I have been a fan and enjoyed reading Practical Magic immensely, but Here on Earth is without a doubt one of the most original and human-like of all.

No other author has the power to write such a story to make you hate someone who just exists in a book. And that's bloody fantastic.

Summary: Haunting
Review: I've been up for hours at nights just thinking about what happened at the end of the book...what a evil plot! I loved it! The beginning was rather the story of a girl fallen in love with her father's helper, in the end she gets him, but not in the way she wants. Scary, chilling, and very real.

Summary: A SHOCKING STORY
Review: I didn't know this book was about physical abuse, I thought I was going to read a beautiful love story. I felt bad for Richard, Gwen, Hank, and March. March was truly just following her heart and the love that she thought was there. Unfortunatly, she didn't know what she was getting herself into. Although she willingly gave herself to Hollis, she didn't deserve that kind of abuse. Nobody deserves any kind of abuse. I'm glad Gwen changed her ways and found true love in beauty, and within herself thanks to Hank. I started to really enjoy the book after Part 2. I thought Part 1 was a little slow, but I'm very glad I stuck through it to finish the book. Very good story !!!!

Summary: A Feminists' Wuthering Heights
Review: Wuthering Heights has always left me feeling vaguely dissatisfied. Here On Earth explores how much, and how little, the inner lives of women have changed during the past 150 years. Not only did I enjoy reading this book, but I gained a greater appreciation of its proto-type. Read them both with your Book Club!

Summary: My One and Only Love
Review: I loved this book even though the reviews were kind of so so. The story of March and Hollis is riveting as are the other sub plots in the book. There are so many kinds of love and this book showcases them - the good kinds as well as the bad kinds. Ms Hoffman always finds a way to tug at your heart and not in a soap operish way - another winner!!

Summary: What is real love?
Review: I liked this book. The demensions of love and it's ability to endure and grow or die was thought provoking and interesting. Parental love, infatuation, physical love, lust, and friendships developed through time are explored. The lasting message is, I think, that love is best when it is accepting, understanding, and forgiving.

Summary: Another Classic by Hoffman
Review: It has many stories in one, all woven together and intersecting with creative artistry. Hoffman has the ability to share the souls of her characters with the reader & this book was no disappointment there. Realistic characters, flawed and very human, their weaknesses were the book's strength.. A must read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: PAGETURNER
Review: This book left you wanting more. Its plot had many twist and turns. Definitely recommend if not read any of Alice's Hoffmans work.
