Rating: Summary: Hoffman is simply amazing, she never ceases to entertainme. Review: This book was excellent. I'm 15 years old and this is the 2nd (and not last) book that I've read, the other being Seventh Heaven. They just keep getting better and better. Oprah did no harm in recommending THIS great treat of a story.
Rating: Summary: Another Good one from the best of the best author Review: I have always loved this author's way of writing, but there have only been a few books that I was as intrested in as this one. I could hardly put it down. It was simply in awe. I believe it is one of her best and one of the best I have read in a long while. She has always been good with his plots and this one is no different. In my opinion if you like Alice Hoffman, then you must read this book. If only to make your own decision on how wonderful this book truely is.
Rating: Summary: The Simple Things in Life (not love) Review: HERE ON Earth is a book that left me wanting more. Its plot had many twist and turns.
Rating: Summary: The Simple Things in Life (not love) Review: _Here On Earth_ reminded me that the simple things in life are what count the most. I found it a very easy read and I would recommend it to anyone, from Henry James readers to the Danielle Steels, there's something for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, Excellent, Excelle Review: From the first page to the last page, this book was excellent
Rating: Summary: Yes, indeed a nice book to read Review: This was the first time that I've read a Hoffman book and after the story of teenage fixation I was hooked. Unfortunately this hook loosened and I became free by about half way through. There was something there though and if you like a nice simple read on the train to work this might just be you. I will certainly read her again.
Rating: Summary: The Power of Oprah... Review: I'm not one to read much but I love Oprah's show and the books that they read realy appeal to me. I like a good story especially if I can relate. This is a great book, it just goes to show you that there are good people out there.
Rating: Summary: A harsh view on real life in hicksville Review: This is an excellent book with adventure, excitment, and pain. I've read all of the author's books and I loved them all. I liked Hollis when he was younger but grew to hate him in the end. This is what a good book is. One that changes your thoughts and makes you want to write a review.
Rating: Summary: Literary Words someone savors and Tastes Review: I'm into the 3rd read and am finally "getting it". Hoffman's gift to show us the development of characters in time (like in real life) is unusual but excellent to find in a book. Many authors don't bother to fully develop the characters in terms of growth and understanding, leaving every book seem like another and quickly fad from thoughts. Here on Earth on the other hand has stuck to my mind ever since I read it months ago, and seems to still stick to other readers who cause such harsh rednecked review also.
Rating: Summary: Not AH's best, but a fine ORIGINAL novel Review: I finished HERE ON EARTH night before last and started it again last night. Not because I didn't understand it, but because I know there is even more there. It is very rare that I reread a book immediately after finishing it, but certainly the best books demand to be read over and over again, each time revealing something new. As others have commented, good books require active readers, people who don't need perfectly linear narration to appreciate what the author has to offer.
