Summary: Beach reading for the literary minded
Review: I'm not someone who savors a "sex and shopping" novel on beach vacations, nor do I enjoy Grisham or Steele or Rice. While for some the Wuthering Heights feeling in this novel may prove too heavy for a vacation in a warm spot; I found the parallels to Bronte riveting. Hoffman's story of a dangerous love provided a delightful day of reading for me. Hoffman's story goes to the erotic places Bronte couldn't. Yummy!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Rich entertaining read
Review: As usual Alice Hoffman writes a true tale of love and hate. It's disturbing how people compare this book to "Wuthering Heights". These two books take place in two different time periods, different societies, and different characters even. This is more forceful, if you'd want to compare and say.

Read it, especially if you haven't read anything by Hoffman yet.

Summary: Talent but no genius...
Review: I'm not bothered by the similarity to Wuthering Heights; it's obvious that Hoffman was attempting an homage, rather than crude plagiarism. However, Hoffman is definitely not the writer E. Bronte was. Cathy and Heathcliff have a mythic power about them which lends a sort of awe-inspiring greatness to even their worst excesses. Hoffman aims for that and fails; she has produced a dreary woman-in-danger tale, not significantly different from a thousand others easily found on drugstore shelves.

Summary: Sensual, disturbing, and exquisitely written.
Review: I must admit to a certain amount of shellshock from having just finished this book. I thought it was a capitivating and moving story, but I guess what surprised me is that it became a totally different book than I thought it was going to be. There were times in the last quarter of the book when I had a physical reaction to the events unfolding on the page. I don't agree that this book is depressing; yes, my heart hurt with sadness at how March's life had gone awry, but I don't see that as the same thing as being depressed by it (at least not to the degree of some of Oprah's earlier book choices.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Another great story by Alice Hoffman
Review: Perhaps we have all had a love in our lives like March's Hollis. As much as we loved the person, it was never meant to work out. "Here On Earth" is a book that shows us how blinded we can be to the actions of the one we love. A great book. It is a great addition to Alice Hoffman's impressive list of books.

Summary: Every teenage female needs this read this for their safety
Review: A horrid but realistic book on abuse. It's amazing how Alice Hoffman had developed March as a strong female, into one that was easily pushed around. And of course Hollis, who she led us to believe to be a boy who truely loved March, which he did, but to the point where he was too protective and hurt her.

There is such a thing as true love, but when it's this strong, it's dangerous.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Generation after Generation, Great story about family
Review: It was twisted how March's daughter seemed to been going to be doomed into the love and life March ended up in, scary, powerful, and hard to put down at the same time, this book is really weird. You want to put down the book because something happens that you don't want to happen, but you read on to see whatever else bad happens to them. I LOVE ALICE HOFFMAN now.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Every woman should read this book
Review: Any young woman about to go into the dating world should read this book. Hollis can teach alot about what kind of man not to date, and March shows what kind of woman no one should be. This book could give women involved in a manipulative relationship the courage to get out. Thanks Oprah for this recommended read.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Has anyone read Wuthering Heights?
Review: This novel, though well written and immensely entertaining, completely paralleled Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. It had so many similarites, right down to the intertwining families and deeply involved relationships. I give it a 5 for content, a 5 for style and a 2 for originality.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Rember your first love all over again
Review: Great story about the sometimes difficult choices one must make as an adult. The characters were very real. A great weekend book.
