Summary: Hoffman's Best Novel Yet
Review: Although I see the similarities between this and Wuthering Heights, I thought it was an exceptional novel by Hoffman - her best work yet. I finished it in just 2 days and was so disappointed when I did - I wanted it to keep going!

Summary: March Gets a Backbone
Review: It's unfortunately a story that a lot of women probably live out every day in the real world. Why anyone would stay with someone who is abusive and controlling is really beyond me, however in society it does happen. I didn't think the characters were that well written out, but the fact that the Hollis character irritated me so badly made me sort of like the book. I would rather feel irritation about a character than be indifferent. I also think it would have been a better book if the ending had been a bit different and told where exactly the characters stood at the end. It wasn't a book that I would recommend often.

Summary: a sad, non-enviable place to be but so possible!
Review: after reading reviews, it seems readers do not like the story b/c it is so tough to digest and yet, the story is so possible! of course people can be controlled by past lovers and un-resolved immature love! no matter what our age. Hollis represents someone who March has always felt needed protection and now, she has her chance, and in so doing, gives up her own identity. this is not only feasible but done on a daily basis by thousands of woman!! i was one! i know. It takes great strength to turn away and she just could not. Has anyone read "Bastard out of Carolina"? there is another sad page turner about control. BUT IT HAPPENS!

Summary: An strong resemblance to Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights."
Review: I was surprised by how much this story resembles "Wuthering Heights." For example, the estranged family relationships, Heathcliff vs Hollis, the moores vs the marshes, the relationship between lover and brother, and their mysterious path to wealth. Fortunately this story isn't nearly as tragic as Bronte's. However, Hoffman still keeps the reader glued to the book turning page after page to uncover Hollis and March's fate.

Summary: AWFUL
Review: Quite possibly one of the worst books that I have ever read

Summary: WET TEABAG DUD!!!
Review: All that the naive teenager went through to get over Hollis the first time should've made March a wise, adult woman. Remembering how toxic Hollis had been then and knowing how dangerous Hollis was now, for 38(?) year-old March to fly back to his wretched clutches, in the face of an enviable husband and supportive friends was not merely disappointing, but utterly perplexing.

Gwen's storyline redeems this to a one-star read.

Had Hoffman put in even a minimal effort, this might've been a decent book.

Summary: extremely disappointing book
Review: I hope that this is not Hoffman's best effort as some reviewers have said. There was so much more potential for this story. I found the characters undeveloped and confusing. It seemed as though Hoffman couldn't find her direction and just threw in unrelated storylines. Perhaps she was trying for unpredictability, but I found the effort lacking. I will give her another chance - I hope she just missed the mark on this one.

Summary: Don't even think of buying this book!!
Review: Woman leaves her husband and neglects her daughter for abusive, abrasive loser. I was very disappointed in the author's portrayal of the "Heroine". Save your money.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Dissapointing ending
Review: All throughout the book, I was wondering why the author wouldn't allow to go a little deeper into each character. The beginning all the way through the middle of the book was interesting and "made sense". Then, it went downhill,it felt like the author just wanted to get it done. Every time something was happening, it felt like she was changing the subject instead of elaboring it. I was hooked all the way to the end, but was very dissapointed with the last 10 pages. We don't know if Richard took March back, we don't know what happened to Gwen. The author left us with many questions unanswered. The book could have been more developed, in many areas.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Interesting story - poorly developed characters
Review: I bought this book because I loved Wuthering Heights and was interested in a modern interpretation of the story. For all you Bronte fans out there - DONT DO IT! The plot is melodramatic, even ridiculous in Hoffman's hands.

I don't mind that the characters in this book were not likeable, but it does bother me that they were unbelievable.

That said, once I got past my initial disappointment, I found the book moderately interesting. If your expectations are not too high, this is an easy, enjoyable read.
