Review: This book is truly one of the best Ive read recently. Excellent writing, vivid descriptions, interesting Irish folk legends and the lyrical air of this book combine to form a great first novel from Lisa Carey. The only problem is finishing the book, which gives you the feeling you are leaving behind dear friends!

Review: A metaphorical and haunting tale of the knots and tangles of Mother-Daughter love. Beautifully crafted. The imagery of Inis Muruch is mesmerizing: I could smell the salt air, feel the raw wind and the pull of the mermaid's song. Days later, I find it running through my mind. Highly recommended! END

Summary: Engrossing...enchanting
Review: This book was fantastic. I felt really inspired throughout the book and felt as if I could identify to each of the three women in some way. Lisa Carey did a wonderful job of tying the past to the present and conveying emotions in a way that pulled me into the story. This is a story that will still stay in your mind long after the book closes. One line in particular, sticks out to me for some reason. "The pull of her soul was greater than her love for me". Wonderful novel.

Review: The Mermaids Singing was an excellent novel, one of the best I've read. Lisa Carey, a new novelist, has definetly proved herself a good writer. From the time I picked up the book I could not put it down, that's how good it was. I love the fact on how detailed she was with the event that went on from the memories, to the mermaids voices, the the extremely sexual scenes. Being a 16 year old I recommend this book from any age group above 13. I almost cried in this book it is almost so real to life but at the same time so mythical which think is fascinating aspect in any novel. I am waiting for her next novel so I can rush to the library and read as quickly as possible. And just for the heck of it I leave a plate at the table for "lisa carey" just in case!!! -satisified reader

Compelling story, strong imagery, writing you would not expect from so young an author. The relationship between these three strong women are sad and wistful. A real gem of book. I'm recommending this to my mother and my book club.
