Rating: Summary: Suspense Review: When I read the Pilot's Wife I was very impressed with Anita Shreve. So I went back and read everything I could find by this great author. I enjoyed Eden Close so thoroughly it left me wanting the novel to go on. Yes it does touch on some tender subjects but the author handles you and the characters with such care. I highly recommend this and any other novel by Ms. Shreve.
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking little book Review: I really enjoy Anita Shreve's books and this book is no exception. It is a quick read and a thought-provoking little book ~~ one that I couldn't put down after picking it up. Andrew returns home to ready the house for sale after his mother died, only to embark on a personal journey to rediscover love with his oldest childhood friend, who lives next door ~~ Eden. Haunted by the incidents that had happened to Eden during her teen years ~~ the summer before Andrew left home for college ~~ Andrew begins to investigate what had really happened that summer. And to his surprise, the answers weren't what he expected. It is a quick read ~~ perfect for a hot summery day of reading. I recommend this book ~~ it's just as good as Shreve's later books and it will haunt you for a while after you put the book down. It's a rare glimpse inside of a man's soul and mind as he explores the possibilities of love again.
Rating: Summary: A most intriguing story Review: I have read most of Anita Shreve's books and thought that none could be better than her "Strange fits of Passion" but I could not put this book down!! It tells a tale of long forgotten love and tragedy. But has some twists you wouldn't expect. This is a wonderful novel.
Rating: Summary: Interesting but not Overwhelming Review: After reading "The Pilot's Wife", I thought that I could also read other books of Anita Shreve. As we had to read a book in school I chose "Eden Close" by the same author. But I was a little bit disappointed. I didn't really enjoy reading this book. It wasn't as exciting as "The Pilot's Wife". There's Andrew who returns to his hometown for his mother's funeral. This visit remembers him that hot, bloody night when Eden Close, his youth love, blinded - by the same gun that killed her father. At the beginning he didn't intend to stay there, but now he wants to know what really happened that night in the summer. Eden and Andrew had been childhood companions and now, Andrew looks for his Eden who is blind. He goes for walks with her to the sea, they often were in there childhood. They love each other and they decide to live together...Andrew wants to take with him Eden to New York. But first, he has to discover the truth about that night... This book is interesting but not overwhelming.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: I have read all of Shreve's other novels, but somehow always neglected to pick this one up. What a mistake that was. Eden Close is a beautifully written work, full of the intrigue and romance that Shreve is known for. As always, she keeps us guessing right up to the end, and leaves us with a taste in our mouths for more. Two childhood friends, on the brink of romance, find themselves there again nearly twenty years later. Eden is blind, a result of a tragic shooting in her teen years, and together they must reveal what has been hiding in the darkness all these years. Superb story, one of Shreve's best.
Rating: Summary: I didnt want it to end Review: This is the second book of Ms. Shreve's that I have read. I really like her writing style, which tends to swing towards the poetry side. This really draws the reader into the novel.
Rating: Summary: you won't be able to put it down Review: This was the first book of hers i read and i found it to be very excellant, i wasn't able to put it down, i finished this book in 3 days it was so good. I also read RESISTANCE which was a bit slow at first but the further i got the harder it was to quit reading. Plus i read THE WEIGHT OF WATER which was another very excellent book. i am now reading THE PILOTS WIFE which is also very good. I find that Anita Shreve is a very good author as soon as you finish one of her books you'll be running out to get another one of her books, she is an excellant author. I plan to read STRANGE FITS OF PASSION and WHERE OR WHEN. Trust me her books are worth buying.
Rating: Summary: Eden Close Review: I have become an Anita Shreve fan and plan to read more of her books. Her weave of characters, crime and passion is what has hooked me. This is my third book by Ms. Shreve and, again, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I just recommended Ms. Shreve to someone the other day!
Rating: Summary: Eden Close Review: Eden Close is one of Anita Shreve's best. The story has a slow, meandering quality with an undercurrent of mystery. As is often true with Ms. Shreve's books, the reader suspects that things may go a bit awry, or take an unsuspected turn, as one approaches the end of the story--and Eden Close is no exception. As a result, I find that I often put her books down for a bit when I get to the last ten or so pages, at least for a couple of hours if not for a day, both because I don't want to finish the book (which has been a good read) and because I like to ponder just what will happen before finding out exactly what does. If you haven't read anything by Shreve, this is a great one to start with; if you have, you'll truly enjoy this one!
Rating: Summary: Another great book Review: i read this book after reading the pilots wife and enjoyed this book immensly...the story was intriguing and kept me into the book that i finished in 2 days...i reccommend this book highly
