Rating: Summary: Funny ..keep you laugh in the subway Review: A funny and entertaining book for you in the subway..
Rating: Summary: good diversion Review: This was a good diversionary book, such as for reading on a plane. It was amusing, sometimes making me chuckle to myself, and did not require a great deal of concentration. I just hope no brides are reading it looking for pointers on how to plan a wedding!I think this book appealed to me because I recently helped my daughter plan her wedding. Reading "Diary of a Mad Bride", I found myself feeling glad that she was more organized and decisive than Amy. No wonder Amy was nervous...it's a wonder her wedding ever came together!
Rating: Summary: I laughed all the way through! Review: As a veteran of the trying-to-pull-together-a-wedding-in-NYC wars (albeit nearly 24 years ago!), could I ever relate to Amy's spiral into pre-wedding madness! A very clever, fast read that had me howling with laughter in several places (I was still giggling about the bustier episode long after I read the passage). Fluff, yes -- but then, so is chocolate mousse. My only "complaint" is that, like chocolate mousse, I finished it far too quickly! A great bridal shower or engagement gift.
Rating: Summary: Lovely Story Review: I loved this book! The story is sweet, simple, and does not demand so much concentration. It is the sort of book you would want to read before going to bed. I enjoyed the writer's sense of humor and always had a big smile while reading the book. If you are planning your wedding, the story will not help you much with your wedding preparations, but you might find a few helpful tips. I am a bride-to-be and reading the book comforted me about how my wedding would turn out. Even if you are not a bride-to-be nor a person who enjoys reading, you will still enjoy reading this book :)
Rating: Summary: I feel like I lost my best friend by the end of the book... Review: Diary of a Mad Bride made me laugh cry and sometimes freak out. I am getting married June 22, 2002 the time line and events that she went through are the same in my life. The fiance who freaks only when convienent, the mother who controls and the fiance's parents who split and the father is now dating someone 20 years younger, I think Laura Wolf has been spying on me for the last 2 years. I swear she was writing about my life. I have never read a book that made me feel like I have everything under control before. Now I am fearless If she can do it so can I. Great book plan on making its rounds through the office of everyone getting married!!
Rating: Summary: Bridget Jones' Diary for Brides-to-Be Review: Thanks to the success of the diary format in such diverse places as "Bridget Jones' Diary" and online journals, the diary format has been used almost to excess in fiction. However, this book is a bit different. For one, the only real thing about this book that tells you it's a diary (besides the title) is the fact that it has dates. It is not written as though Amy (the "mad bride" of the title) is writing to her diary, it reads more like a normal fiction book, with the exception of dialogue reading as lines from a movie or play. That being said, this is an interesting book, with occasional flashes of humor, but only one real laugh-out-loud moment that I can remember. As I appreciate humor, I tend to judge books such as this by the number of laugh-out-loud moments it has. It has some slight plot twists, but not the ones you would predict. Overall, it's an interesting and diverting read, but of this particular genre, I've read much better.
Rating: Summary: laughed so hard i cried many many many times Review: picked this up on a whim because it looked interesting...Not a bride but been a bride's maid and she nailed it. But the funniest parts were the bride's interactions with friends, family and co-workers especially as the day draws near and the craziness hits high. Its is very similar to Bridget Jones with a nod to Sex in the City, the characters aren't deep (I don't even remember their names) but in all it was the best 4.5 hours (I read straight through) reading a book in some time. Hysterical!
Rating: Summary: Take Off of Bridget Jones's Diary Review: From the quirky family to the cooking disaster to her career in publishing with troublesome co-workers and beyond, it's clear that this book is a take off of BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY. If you're interested in a really funny book stick with the original. I gave this two stars instead of one because Laura Wolf showed that she has the potential to be a talented writer.
Rating: Summary: Read it in one day! Review: I feel like I have gone above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to supporting soon-to-be-wed friends, so when I read the main character, Amy, think to herself, "What is it about a wedding that turns an otherwise normal person into a raging narcissist?" I knew I had to get this book. While I agree with other reviewers that Amy went improbably quickly from "I'm not the marrying kind" to "I'm engaged!" her metamorphasis from normal person to raging narcissistic diva without even being aware of it was truly hilarious. As the last single woman in my circle of friends, it has been my job to listen to all of my friends obsess over napkin monograms, length of corsage stems, pastel versus white jordan almonds, and all of the other incredibly important details about their weddings. The only thing that gets me through it is the tiny hope that, someday, it will be my turn to drive them insane! If you are married, engaged, or single, this book will speak to you. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Cute -- but it could have been better Review: Diary of a Mad Bride is the journal of Amy Thomas who, after complaining about how annoying her bride-to-be friend is, gets engaged herself. She decides to be organized; she makes a list of everything she has to do to make her wedding come off; and her journal recounts everything that actually happens. It's an amusing read, and one that should draw chuckles of recognition from just about everybody, but at almost 300 pages it starts to feel like too much of the same thing. There's a nod to family relations, a few details about work, but nothing to give the book a little more depth or texture or even a little variety.
