Rating: Summary: I could have written it myself... Review: This book caught my attention right off the bat, one because of the strange name and two because I am getting married this fall and related instantly. As the main character changes into the typical bride while dealing with the many ups and downs with planning a wedding, I found great comfort in this novel. Although this is fiction, parts of the novel definitely reminded me of my own relationship and our engagement. Rather than scaring me away, this book has made me laugh about the things that are out of my control.
Rating: Summary: You have to have a sense of humor about things.... Review: This book is a hilarious read from the beginning. First and foremost, is is NOT a book for brides who are nervous about perfection in their wedding. It is a better read AFTER your wedding! Then again, if may make one feel better! After three weddings myself, this book makes me feel better about all the flub-ups and "not so grand" experiences in MY REAL- LIFE WEDDINGS. If this bride can accept a proposal at a strange and not-so-romantic location, an emerald engagement ring, her mother's wedding dress and to be upstaged by her bridesmaids' dresses, then anything that can happen in real life couldn't be so bad! Laura Wolf's hilarious antecdotes will have you giggling out loud, sometimes out of pity, sometimes out of sympathy and sometimes out of the realization that THIS DID NOT HAPPEN TO YOU!
Rating: Summary: Wedding chick lit. Review: This book will have you laughing from the start all the way to the finish. Amy is what many woman feel like when they have a friend who is getting married. At first you feel like that person will do nothing but complain and obsess about the wedding, but once it is done it is nothing but good things. When Stephen asks Amy to marry her she feels that is soon to become that person that she always hated and trys not to get that way. But before she knows it she is turning into that person. She tells the story of trying to get everything correct and figured out before the big day without losing it. But she does lose it and some things just don't go as she planned. This was a great chick lit book, but also just a great read. Overall I felt that Amy was a great charactor and a lot was told about her and all of her friends and family. I hope that this author writes some great books in the future.
Rating: Summary: A must read! Review: I have helped plan and been in numerous weddings and this book is a must for all girls who want to get married or have gone through planning a wedding of their own. Hilarious!
Rating: Summary: FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY Review: I loved it so much I bought copies for friends. It's a fun read, but if you can't understand that there are other books in existance besides Bridget Jones, do us all a favor and skip it instead of whining about it. No, this character is not Bridget; she's not supposed to be. But if you want an easy light read filled with solid humor and a relatable plot, then pick up Mad Bride.
Rating: Summary: Shameful Review: Boring, dumb story + unlikable characters = Giant waste of time. Ms. Wolf should learn a thing or two about the value of understatement. She obviously assumes readers are so dense they would not understand the simplest of humor, and she ruins every potentially funny joke or situation by explicitly spelling out the humor. For example, there is an exchange between two of the characters in which one accuses the other of mocking her. The "mocker" says, "I'm not mocking you," although it is contextually obvious that she is. But, in case you tend to overlook the obvious, Ms. Wolf has kindly provided a footnote, reading, "I was mocking her." The fact that I managed not to, in utter disgust, hurl this ... drivel to the floor more than one time accounts for the generous two stars I have given "Mad Bride." Perhaps there are one or two redeeming qualities that kept me reading (if they exist, they escape me at the moment), or perhaps it was simply morbid fascination (how does such poppycock get published?!?). Regardless, I read it, and this mere fact warrants two stars. Bridget Jones's Diary this isn't.
Rating: Summary: A bit out there Review: If you are looking for an easy read, you have found it here! This is probably because we are unfortunately subjected to the same "wedding planning list" again and again throughout the book. The main character is whiny and thoroughly unlikable. Even her angst seems contrived and cliche as she plods through the story. I found myself wanting it to end way before it did.
Rating: Summary: FUNNY! Review: This book is a must read for every woman. It is hilarious from the start. Whether you have just gotten married, been married for years, or single, it will hold your attention and keep you laughing. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was very pleased with this book. I passed it on to my co-workers and friends (all woman) and they have loved it and started recommending it to their friends. It is just one of those books you pass from girl friend to girl friend.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't finish it. Review: I had to stop reading this book because as a bride-to-be I found it extremely negative and depressing. I also thought it read like a bad comedy show. I gave it away and am dissapointed I wasted [$$] on it.
Rating: Summary: Easy reading Review: I really enjoyed this book. I'm twenty and still have a few years until I plan to get married. Although I could totally picture many of these things happening to me. It is quick and easy to read. Great book for the summer reading list. :)
