Summary: Great for Brides
Review: This book is great for brides. It made me realize that no matter what, brides are a little crazy and it helped me see the humor in planning a wedding.

Summary: Oh, the madness!!
Review: I haven't laughed this hard since reading the Shopaholic books by Sophie Kinsella! Laura Wolf is undoubtedly an entertaining, funny, talented writer, and she had me in stitches more times than I can count. I highly enjoyed Diary of a Mad Bride and can't wait to read her next book.

Meet Amy Thomas -- a self-proclaimed anti-marriage posterwoman. I mean, why fix it when it isn't broke, right? Amy is wildly in love with Stephen and the marriage question hasn't even come up, which suits her just fine. Why turn herself into a crazy woman with all those nutty, self-absorbed, time-consuming wedding plans anyway? Then out of the clear, blue sky, Stephen proposes and opens up a whole new world for Amy. One she didn't even know she wanted. Follow Amy on her hilarious (I mean, of the knee-slapping kind) journey from normal, satisfied woman to harried wedding planner of the worst kind. And relish every step of the way.

Written in easy to read diary form, Diary of a Mad Bride is addictive and breezy and the pages will fly right by -- which can be a bad thing since you really don't want the book to end! Amy is endearing, her two friends, Mandy and Anita, are priceless in their own crazy way, and the families-in-law are almost too much to bear. Prepare to laugh and your mood to be lifted -- this novel is the best medicine. Looking forward to reading futher Mad adventures.

Summary: Recomended to all the brides to be
Review: This book actually made me feel better about my upcoming wedding stress. By showing different perspectives of the people around her made me think of my poor friends and how I must be driving them crazy. I laughed so hard from this book. I now not only look at my wedding from a different perspective, it has also made the wedding choices more tolerable. Whatever happends happends...best of luck to all those brides to be.

Summary: Ridiculous
Review: I read this book while planning my own wedding and I cannot tell you how many times I rolled my eyes, thought to myself "this woman has absolutely no clue" and put the book down. Many women I know who had already read the book kept telling me that I absolutely *had* to finish it though, so I did. What a letdown. From the Korean lady who wouldn't "let" her buy the mini tiara to having to wear a hideous dress passed down from generations before ... everything was of the ridiculous. I could never in good conscience recommend this book to someone planning a wedding who is looking for a few good laughs.

Summary: High on the humor scale
Review: I was glad this one caught my attention because this is a hilariously funny book. It is basically the diary of a woman and self-proclaimed "anti-mariagge" activist who strangely enough finds herself engaged and looking forward to the big day. This book chronicles her days from the engagement all the way to the altar. It's a very funny and engaging novel with unforgettable and witty characters. I think every woman (whether you've dreamed about becoming a bride or swore off marital relations for good) ought to read this.

Summary: Unrealistic events and unrelatable main character
Review: About the only thing I can agree with about the other reviews is that this is a quick read. Otherwise, it is a shallow, dull book that isn't funny at all and the main character isn't even slightly admirable. If I could have given 0 stars, I would have.

She doesn't expect to have to buy presents for her bridesmaids, she doesn't expect to shell out any of her own cash for a wedding, she expects her secretary to do the majority of her grunt work and not be found out...how shallow and stupid can a person be? Her trials and tribulations aren't even close to what a real bride in a big city would go through (trust me, I am one!). She needs a book on etiquette and a reality check, to say the least.

I didn't feel for the main character since I found her so shallow. I am a real person, a bride to be, and my frets are hardly over what comb to wear in my hair and I am certianly smarter than to wait til the last minute to pick out my shoes! Any halfway intelligent bride knows to wear the exact undergarments and shoes she will be wearing on her wedding day to her gown fittings. She also would plan a wedding TOGETHER with her fiance rather than split the duties up and have virtually no discussion about the decisions, pros, cons or results. Has the author ever actually been through the wedding planning process? She seems clueless.

What about the real issues of marriage? Having kids, discussing money matters, household chores, etc...none of the reality of marriage is even PONDERED by this simpleton of a bride. She is so concerned about her shoes and the food and the band, the reality of marriage is never even considered. This is what is wrong with so many marriages today...planning for the wedding day is far more important than planning for the marriage itself! People's values are so out of whack and this book completely perpetuates those issues.

The book was very simplistic, the main character was clueless about the realities of marriage and I am unsure if this author has any talent...only time will tell. Do not buy this book unless you yourself are a simple minded bride who cares more about her fairly tale day than the rest of her life.

Summary: Funny!!
Review: I loved this book and thought that it was so incredibly funny! I was laughing out loud the entire time I read this book! It was such a page turner that I couldn't put it down until I was done!

Summary: Funny and True
Review: For anyone that has ever been through the bridal blender, read this book and you will laugh at yourself, your friends, and any wedding you have ever been a part of. It was a great and delightfully funny read.

Summary: So-so book, horrible wedding.
Review: I am not a Bride, a bridesmaid, and I am not engaged, so maybe I could not enjoy this book properly. I didn't think this book was very realistic and I was dissapointed with some of the events that unfolded. I mean who gives their son $5000 to plan a wedding then a list of 200 guests they expect to be invited? Cough up some more dough or tear up the list!! And, I hated Amy's wedding. I wanted to cry for her. I hated her dress, I hated her reception, her buffet..and most of all her parents. I would have eloped. To be fair, I should read this again when I am engaged and I might change my mind. For now I give it a 2.

Summary: A Fun Quickie
Review: This book would be a great beach read. It's fun and lighthearted, albeit somewhat predictable. But the predictability's beside the point--the fun is in the details. (Like, will Amy ever find shoes?) I enjoyed the varied format (some diary entries are presented like you're reading a play), and I thought the bride's family was the best part of the book. This book is also a fresh departure from others of its genre in that the bride actually has a BUDGET (amazing!). A warning, though: If you're looking for even a hint of depth, read something like Otherwise Engaged instead.
