Rating: Summary: Must For Brides!!! Review: This book is a must read for every Bride to Be. I loved this book because it had substance and was totally original. This book gets 5 stars from me.
Rating: Summary: Grab the Tissues... It's not what you think! Review: This was, without a doubt, the most hilarious book I've ever read! As a romantic girl at heart, I constantly fantasize about the perfect wedding... And this book effortlessly pointed out just how many things are subject to change when planning a wedding in the most comic manner I've ever seen.Amy Thomas is as clueless as me when it comes to the nuances surrounding a wedding. Being able to see myself in the main character made the book that much better. I honestly cried half my way through the book because I was laughing so hard! I;ve thrown this book to anyone within walking distance of me, since I've been finished. Any woman whose ever had, planned or even been near a wedding should read this book and laugh at yet another reason for why it is so special to be a woman! :)
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I loved this book! It has been a while since a book has made me laugh out loud, but this book made me do it. We follow the story of a woman who vows never to be like the crazy brides her friends are, and ends up a crazy bride herself. Everyone I know who has read this book finds it as funny and cute as I do. It has moments where you think it is going a bit overboard, but that just adds to the overall charm of the book. I highly recommend this book to brides-to-be, anyone in a wedding, or anyone who wants to laugh. This is a great book.
Rating: Summary: A book every bride should read Review: I absolutely loved this book! It touches on all the major issues that every bride deals with and makes you laugh at yourself in the process. There is not a bride out there that wouldn't relate to the same craziness that the character goes through. A must read!
Rating: Summary: It's not necessarily better the second time around... Review: If you want real edge and literature, try the original -- which , after reading this book, would have to be confirmed as the better of the two -- Diary of a Mad Housewife, by Sue Kaufman. It was a superlative book, very compelling and unique in its voice, and it stands up well to time. As to the recent trend of fiction with engagement as its topic ( as well as motherhood ), look to Suzanne Finnamore (Otherwise Engaged, The Zygote Chronicles) or Jennifer Weiner, (Good in Bed, In Her Shoes) who at least can write their way out of a wedding dress.
Rating: Summary: Good, breezy, fun read! Review: This book was very easy to get through; I think I read it in a day or two! It was a lot of fun to read and never tedious at all, and made me laugh out loud! If you're a fan of Bridget Jones or the Shopaholic books, this book is definitely very similar, and reads especially similarly to the Shopaholic books, so if you like either of those books and want more that are similar (almost TOO similar!) then this is definitely the book for you!
Rating: Summary: Hysterical! Review: This book is fantastic! I am not a bride-to-be and have never even been close to being one, but this book was probably one of the funniest, most down-to-earth books I've ever read. I read this during my last semester of law school and then passed it on to all of my other stressed out law school friends. It proved to be great relief for our stress. One great thing about this book is the use of footnotes. They are hysterical! If you like it, definitely check out the new one "Diary of a Mad Mom to Be" because it's just as funny--even if you're not pregnant and don't have kids!!!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious!!! Review: I absolutely loved this book! I took it with me on vacation and as I read it by the pool I just could not control myself from laughing out loud. Sure she may overreact sometimes, but she's planning a wedding for goodness sake! Overall great read and the footnotes are SOOOOOOOO FUNNY!!!!
Rating: Summary: not bad Review: The book was not terrible, but was a little boring. Having gone through planning a wedding, I could relate to the pressures, but nothing in this novel had me laughing out loud. I think it was a good explanation of the wedding stresses to expect, but could have been a bit funnier. After all, planning a wedding can get ridiculous at times, and I don't think the author capitolized on that.
Rating: Summary: Very Insightful Review: "Diary of a Mad Bride" deals with Amy's life as a bride-to-be. It is quite realistic in the sense that the author touches on issues for women such as the fear of losing a job, and all the preparation for a wedding. Amy did not get the enthusiasm from her family or co-workers and was basically the person organizing everything from booking a caterer to buying a pair of wedding shoes. Basically, she was getting neurotic about things such as her new last name and sharing everything with another human being. It quite fascinating book because you get a glimpse into the life of a bride-to-be. You tend to sympathize and understand her plight and her wish to have everything done right. Laura Wolf shows the horror and joy of planning for one's wedding. I highly recommend this book because it is humorous, well-written and very entertaining. Women especially can identify with this book. The anticipation of getting married, the stress that comes with it, and the doubts that never seem to disappear. However, the final result of all the stress and hardwork pays off.
