Rating: Summary: So Funny, You Can't Stop! Review: As other reviewers, both professional and amateur, have already said, it doesn't matter what you think of weddings in order to enjoy this book. If you have already had one, dreamed of having one, been the maid of honour at one, arranged one with your daughter, friend, mother, whoever, or have always dreaded the very idea of having one ... you WILL find this book hysterically funny. Wolf leaves no detail behind - she introduced a few things I had never heard of for weddings. The only reason I didn't give this book 5 stars is that it really isn't a great piece of literature, but then again it doesn't pretend to be either. It's just a whole lot of fun that had me laughing out loud.
Rating: Summary: Oh my gosh! A MUST READ for brides-to-be!!!!! Review: I am getting married in 99 days (yes, I know the number), and this book was just what I needed. It profiles the neuroses that plague brides-to-be everywhere, such as searching for the perfect wedding-day shoes, dealing with coworkers who JUST DON'T SEEM TO REALIZE THAT YOUR WEDDING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WORK, and caterers who are high on drugs. The author struggles as to whether or not she should wear her mother's wedding dress...it IS hideously ugly, but maybe it can be remade? So many wedding trials and tribulations, but in the end, it all works out, as it will for all brides....worth a read!!!
Rating: Summary: Hire a wedding planner instead!!! Review: This novel was an enjoyment to read. The heroine chronicles her days as a bride-to-be and her struggles to create the (almost) perfect wedding. Amy thought she was content with her single status. Constantly told that she wasn't the "marrying kind," she came to terms with that fact and thought that she was perfectly happy with the relationship with her boyfriend Stephen. That is until he popped the question. In the course of a year, she made all of her wedding plans -- and watched how almost everything fell apart. She became the "mad bride-to-be" that she thought she'd never become. There were some very amusing moments in this novel. I had no idea that planning a wedding could take so much of your time and effort. In addition to supplying me with some laughs, it made me realize what I have to do on the day I become engaged: hire a wedding planner!!!
Rating: Summary: This bride says it's a hit! Review: I read this book as I was planning my own wedding. I love it! The main character is one I can definately relate to. The book is well written and easy to follow. (that is if you're a crazy bride-to-be...) I suggest every bride-to-be read this book before they make any plans!
Rating: Summary: Great!!!!!!!!! Review: The other reviewers have pretty much covered my feelings about this book. It's light, its funny, and its true to life. The bride starts out sensible and sane - not wanting to be like any of her friends who have gotten married. She thinks all she needs to keep her perspective is a good list and maybe one bridal book to refer to. She makes the list, buys the bridal book, then adds to the list. She has to change the wedding date so it doesn't interfere with basketball season (or any other sport) and slowly loses her sense of humor, her friends and even her groom (temporarily). Her wedding dress is a story in itself and the final madness seems to hinge on the search for wedding shoes! I enjoyed the book immensely - could there maybe be a sequel??
Rating: Summary: Very amusing! Review: Got this book on a whim, needing some fun, light reading, and I've been giggling since page one! Only read this in public if you don't mind people staring at you funny for lauging out loud... The back cover reads, "...for anyone who has ever been a bride, is about to become a bride, or suffered the sheer indignity of appearing in public in the world's ugliest bridesmaid dress...." Include in this any single woman who has suffered knowing a bride-to-be who can talk about nothing other than the up-coming wedding plans! In other words, I think any female will be amused with Amy's story...
Rating: Summary: I couldn't put i down! Review: This is an excellent quick read that doesn't take much time or concentration. The journal style and additions of notes, invitations, lists, and memos only adds to the funny, exciting, and overall great comedic aspects of this book. I recommend it for anyone who wants a great laugh and a quick read. Even if you are not a bride or a bride to be (which I am not) it is truly an excellent book for anyone!! if you get the time, take a peak!
Rating: Summary: VERY FUNNY. Above blurb doesn't do this gem justice. Review: Very funny -- BRIDGET JONES gets married, but with a more knowing sense of humor. DIARY OF A MAD BRIDE recounts the ordeal of throwing a Vera Wang wedding on an Old Navy Budget, by a woman who isn't convinced she should be getting married in the first place. With a 70-item To Do list, an AWOL secretary, a divorcing sister who thinks the wedding is cursed, and a husband who, for his sole contribution, hires a band called the Diggity Dogs, our heroine finds herself becoming everything in a bride she once ridiculed -- and wishing she'd packed heat to do her gown shopping. The beauty shop scene with the bridesmaids made me laugh so hard I cried. "Only white food! There's no way I'm letting her stain that horrible dress!" --the maid of honor
Rating: Summary: I wish I had written this book! Review: I will pass this book along to every future bride who enters my life. My wedding wasn't quite this disasterous, but close! This book is hysterical, and as a former mad bride, I related to every word! It also made me look back at my own wedding and remember the moments that I thought were disasterous at the time with newly found laughter. This is a perfect bridal shower gift!
Rating: Summary: Wedding Humor at its Funniest Review: Laughed out loud. Anyone who has ever been involved with the "wedding process" will appreciate the humor in this book. On almost every page you recognise something that has happened to you or a friend - from the picking of the brides maid, to the shoes, to the site, to the parents. If you enjoyed Jemima J, Confessions of a Shopaholic this is a must read.
