Summary: A TOTALLY ABSORBING READING PLEASURE
Review: This is a book that will capture you in the 1st sentance. The characters absorbed in me immediately, and by the end of the book I felt I knew them personally. I was immersed in the hustle bustle of Dublin, and the quiet calm of Tara Road. This is a book that I fell asleep reading for 3 straight nights. I was saddened when coming to the end of the book because I did not want to finish it. I could keep reading about these people continuosly. It takes just the right book to "hook" me, and this one IS IT!!!

Summary: Intriguing from first page to last: a charming read.
Review: I was engrossed and charmed from the first pages of this book. Vivid characters and well-described settings had me thrilled with intrigue throughout the story. I was fascinated with the storyline and exchange of life's characters that seemingly take place with the main characters. The settings were so clear and the characters, full of life I couldn't help but notice the author's talent as I charged through the chapters. I have recommended this book and sent it as gifts to several friends; young and old.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I am one to obtain every Maeve Binchy novel before the ink is dry - but this was not one of her better efforts. Maeve's forte is character development and relationships, and those she presented here seemed rather trite. Any reader of Maeve's work knows that her books often have their "slow" spots, but this was one work that seemed never to go anywhere.

Summary: Wonderful - you live with the caracters!!!
Review: A wonderful and warm story about what life can do to you. The happy married couple, which marriage slips apart and the unhappy married woman, who comes to Ireland and experience life and regain her marrriage. The mix of the two different types of women, whose roads cross each other. I read it during my holiday in England - and I couldn't put it away, before I had finished it.

Summary: Magnificent
Review: Like all Maeve Binchy stories, this is a masterpiece, with well developed believable characters and a deeply satisfying story. However, I find that this story also has a dark under current, which is a little different to her other books. But as a slice of life in modern Ireland, with characters you laugh and cry with, it is a fabulous read. And best of all, this book also gave me a good friend in another country - all the more reason to cherish it.

Review: I read this book over the summer so I was surprised when Oprah picked it for this month's book. It is so much different than previous picks however I really enjoyed it. The characters are created so carefully and lovingly by Ms. Binchy that you begin to think that you know them. I have read all of Ms. Binchy's books so I am happy that she will not only have critical acclaim but a best selling novel.

Summary: Excellent story, wonderful characters, I loved it!
Review: Mauve Binchey is back, with a wonderful tale of women, marraige, men, children, friends, and what it means to be a neighbor. The characters are interesting and the plot, although somewhat slow at first, builds to a satisfying conclusion. I can't wait for her next book.

Summary: I was surprised when I heard Oprah picked this book.
Review: A little too easy to read if you know what I mean- written at a 8th grade reading level. I thought this book was a little too long and lacking any any good characters. Ria was unrealistically "perfect" - great wife, mother, cook, friend, daughter, sister and homemaker. The other main female character was more interesting and less predictable. Both women were quite different. While Ria was warm and open - Marliyn was cold and private. Although they both had experienced terrible tragedies, I had trouble feeling sorry for either of them.

Summary: ONE FINE PERFORMANCE
Review: This story is by far one of the best selected so far by Oprah's book club. Those who enjoy prose that lifts you into another world populated by interesting characters backed by a solid story will not be disappointed. Also recommend PSEUDO COOL and THE COLDEST WINTER EVER, and MOTHER OF PEARL!

Summary: BINCHY JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER
Review: I enjoy books such as Maeve Binchy and Rosamunde Pilcher write. The character studies to me outweigh the plot. Seeing a character develop and evolve is what Binchy is best at. You can relate to the characters. It is a good, fast read and now I know my tast is not at fault, since Oprah picked it also for her bookclub selection. I hope Ms Binchy has many more books in her.
