Rating: Summary: A GOOD BOOK Review: I did think this was a good book, but I was also surprised that it was picked for an Oprah's book. Most of her choices are so totally engrossing, and this one wasn't. . .at least to me. If you want to read a book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift! This book was edited by Lupus specialist Dr. Matt Morrow too, and has the latest information on that disease. ..A perfect gift for someone who started college late in life, fell in love too late in life, is living with any illness, or trying to understand a loved one who is. . .A gift to be cherished forever.
Rating: Summary: Well written, great detail, ran out of steam! Review: Maeve went through great lengths to provide much detail. Great beginning but failed to capture my interest mid-way through. Author painted great visual pictures but needed to be a little more exciting.
Rating: Summary: DELCIOUS GOSSIPY READING Review: HI AMERICA<JUST TO LET YOU KNOW MEAVE HAS BEEN AROUND IN IRELAND FOR MANY YEARS AND HAS OVER TEN BOOKS TO HER CREDIT.GET INTO THEM-SHE'S GREAT!
Rating: Summary: If you are looking for a new author please read on.... Review: I've been a Maeve Binchy fan since she wrote Circle of Friends, but she has, admittedly, been a little too romantic for my taste on some rare occasions...but THIS is an excellently written book. I don't want to go into detail, but trust me--it'll keep you enthralled. Maeve has a way of twisting her stories to the degree in which even the reader is perplexed (who WAS in the summer house with Rosemary when Annie stumbled across them? ) For those of you that are new to Maeve Binchy, try reading Circle of Friends first...You'll be hooked!
Rating: Summary: Awesomely well thought out writting. Review: This book was the best I have read in a very long time. The author kept you in suspense of what was to come next, what is she leading up to. Bought this book and one of my best purchases this year. Will read again and again and pass on to friends as a must read, (they must by their own, will not lend mine out for fear of not getting it back). Would love to read a part two.
Rating: Summary: A WASTE OF TIME! VERY BORING!- YUK,YUK,YUK! Review: THIS BOOK STARTED OUT OK-AS I READ FURTHER INTO THE STORY, I FOUND MYSELF ACTUALLY SKIMMING AND THEN FLIPPING THROUGH THE PAGES. THERE IS NO POINT IN THIS STORY THAT ACTUALLY CAPTURED MY ATTENTION. VERY BORING. THE ENDING WAS TERRIBLE-IT SEEMED THAT THE AUTHOR RAN OUT OF THING TO SAY.
Rating: Summary: Touching...Hard to read...hard to put down...sad and happy Review: This book brought into view the pain that goes on behind closed dooors...how so many people are not able to be honest or faithful...how the truly loving and trusting end up hurt. It was a realistic snapshot of life in the 90's. Sad...hurried...indulgent...never thinking of anyone else...selfish...
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: This book is one every woman can relate to. The characters become so real while reading this book it seems as though you are losing friends after the last page is read. The book is filled with love, betrayl, drama, hope, saddness, and humor. What more could you ask for? I am sorry I finished it so quickly....I look forward to the next book from Maeve Binchy. I only wish it would be Tara Road Part 2...
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book Review: I really loved Tara Road, and the story of the characters' interwoven lives through the years, centered mainly, in the first half of the book, in Ria and Danny's renovated Victorian. Almost the entire cast of characters eventually live or work there, in their own little universe. Ria's life drastically changes, and she's able to exchange houses for two months with an American, who has also had a cataclysmic event in her life. Both women, out of their own familiar environments, are forced to react to different situations: in Ria's case, she finds she can be a lot more self-reliant and decisive than she'd ever had to be before. Marilyn cannot remain aloof and separate from people and their emotions on Tara Road. Both their lives are enlarged by their separate experiences.
Rating: Summary: a little long and drawn out, but after awhile interesting. Review: When I first began reading this book I must admit that is was a little boring, but at the same time kept my interest. It was so sad when I started getting glimpses of Danny's unfaithfulness to a very devoted wife, something I could relate to since my own divorce. The betrayal that Ria didn't know about between Rosemary and Danny that was kept secret. I almost wanted Ria to find out and work this out somehow. It shows the reality of pain and hurt and the knowlege that you must some how find strength to endure and go on. That was the most real inner searching part that I can relate to. I was a little sad when I had finished because I found myself staying up later than I needed to because I was so engrossed in the story. Very good read!
