Rating: Summary: Tara Road Review: This is the second Maeve Binchy book and I feel like I have hit on a gold mine. My all time favorite fiction author is Rosamunde Pilcher and Ms. Binchy tells her story in Tara Road much like Pilcher does in Shell Seekers. It left me wanting to know how the characters get on after the book ended, as if they were real people, instead of characters created by Ms. Binchy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have gone back for more. I will start reading Circle of Friends and also Copper Beech as soon as I get a chance!
Rating: Summary: Not Quite Sure Why I Liked This Book... Review: I haven't really enjoyed many of Oprah's selections, but decided to give this one a chance anyway. After reading the book, I was sorry it had to end, but at the same time I asked myself, why? It's dificult to put your finger on why the book is great. I didn't find the plot to be overly exciting, but I found that the characters were. I think this book is well worth a read just because you tend to fall in love with the characters and genuinely "care" what happens in their life. Just a nice read; nothing earth shattering.
Rating: Summary: Tara Road Review: I have read all of Maeve Binchy's books and this is by far her best! I could not put the book down! Maeve Binchy writes about real situations without adding the "fluff" that you read in most books. Her characters are not made to be heroes, but end the story with dignity and self-respect. I recommend not only this book, but all other books written by Maeve Binchy!
Rating: Summary: I Have Read Better Binchey Review: I found Tara Road a huge disappointment. The characters seemed to be made of cardboard, and they repeated themselves endlessly throughout the book. I had the distinct impression that Binchey was challenged to write a 500 page book and proved that she could. It was simply not interesting. I wonder how I managed to finish it.
Rating: Summary: Tara Road Review: I was very disappointed with this book. The only reason I finished it was because I paid 18.00 for it. I also began skipping pages just to get on with it already. At times it was almost painfully boring to keep reading it. When looking over some of the other rave reviews, I can't help but wonder, were we reading the same book? Lisa Rodriguez Cleveland,Ohio
Rating: Summary: TARA ROAD Review: I absolutely LOVED this book - I was so sad to have it end. I feel as if I'm in a personal relationship with the characters. Everyone I know that has read this book feels the same way. I like most of Maeve Binchy's books, but this by far is the best in my opinion. I wish she would write a sequel! And, not to omit, the reader Katherine Borowitz did a wonder fantastic job reading the audio version.
Rating: Summary: Not Worthy of Oprah or Maeve Review: I agree with the nay-sayers -- I am a Binchy fan but found this one to be a bore; in fact, about 3/4 through it started speed-reading just to find out the answers to the very few things that interested me.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Positive! Review: Tara Road is one of my favorite books for 1999! I did not read it in the usual two-to-three days that I would normally read a great book---I purposely held off reading it every hour, every day, so I could enjoy it for a long period of time! I recommend this book to everyone who loves Great Britain---who loves to watch people---who has experienced the various man/woman relationships encountered in this book. This book gave me hope and a positve outlook for my own personal life. A great read!
Rating: Summary: Bookclub Nightmare Review: If you are interested in this book, do yourself a favor -- save $25 and read the inside cover at the bookstore. It sums up the entire story and will save you hours of laborious reading. I managed to finish Tara Road only because it was required for a monthly book club meeting. The plot has a slow start and highly predictable ending. Even more frustrating is the "heroine" of the story, Ria, repeatedly behaving like a complete doormat. It was maddening to endure this character's lack of self esteem and personality! For a 500+ page book, the narrow character development was a bonafide let-down. There was exorbitant detail about what every person was wearing and doing, but rarely was there any insight into what these characters were actually thinking. The popularity of this book is absolutely baffling.
Rating: Summary: YOU MUST READ ! Review: "Tara Road" is one of the most enjoyable book I have read. It is the story of the inner growth of two women: Ria & Maryline. Ria is an Irish woman who lives in Tara Road (a residential area in Dublin) with her husband,Danny, and two children. Their marriage is very happy until she discovers that he's going to have a baby with his new teenager girlfriend. Maryline is an American woman who wants to escape from her house and her husband because they remind her of the recent death of her son. Thanks to a chance phone call these two women decide to swap their houses for two months. It is through this experience that they both grow and becone more mature and stronger than before because in this period they share friends, habits and also learn awful secrets about each other. However, they both decide not to reveal them in order not to wrek each other's hopes. It is very easy for a foreigner student of English to read this book because the language is everyday and fluent. There are many dialogues which let the reader identify with the characters. So I strongly advise everybody to read it!
