Rating: Summary: LOVED THIS BOOK... Review: This was my first Maeve Binchy read but certainly not my last. I couldn't wait to finish it because I wanted to give it to my Mom to read, and she loved it too. I borrowed 5 more of her books. I can't wait to read them. Tara Road was so spell binding, once I started it, I just couldn't put it down until I was finished although, I really hated to read the last page. I felt like I lost a friend when I finished the book. I felt so sorry for Ria when Danny was fooling around behind her back, she deserved better than him. Ria was so down to earth and had a heart of gold and was so good to all her friends. I can't wait to read more of Maeve Binchy. I would love to see Tara Road made into a movie.
Rating: Summary: Excellent porch read Review: Once again, Maeve Binchy delights us. All of her characters in Tara Road sparked some type of response in me. The secrets kept, the loyalties, the self delusions we all have, Binchy hits each right on the nose. I was fortunate to have had an opportunity to read about a hundred pages or more on my front porch, while rocking back and forth on my swing, with the sun just hitting my back and shoulders. What a warm glow I felt due, in part, to the weather, but more so, due to this story. You must read this one if you are a Binchy fan!
Rating: Summary: GREAT LIGHT READING FOR A VACATION Review: This was the first Maeve Binchy book I have picked up, and it won't be the last! It is a never ending drama, with fabulous plot revelations throughout the book! Wondering why Oprah picked it as I dont really see the "spiritual" message that she usually goes for.....FINE with me since I really wasn't in the mood for any heavy messages! This book makes you want to be a part of the characters lives, it has you screaming for more. A great light read!
Rating: Summary: Super Author Review: Maeve Binchy is one of my favorite authors..I have read every one of her books, in hardback, because I cannot wait for them to come out in paperback..Her characters are superbly drawn and very human..I cry, and I laugh and I don't care who knows it..
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I loved this book. I could hardly put it down and was sad when it ended. I went to the library today and got Circle of Friends! No, Tara Road isn't the deepest, most challenging read I've ever had, but it was warm and comfortable. I grew very fond of the quirky characters and felt very close to them--I'm sad they won't be a part of my life anymore! I hope Ms. Binchy writes a (shorter) sequel! And I hope that like Circle Of Friends, Tara Road becomes a movie--I keep thinking an older, plumper Minnie Driver for Ria. My favorite author has always been Rosemund Pilcher, my favorite book The Shellseekers. I must love the English, Irish atmosphere. I find myself reading in an accent (Irish being much harder for me than English!) I highly recommend this "lovely" book!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, "easy on the mind" read... Review: Having never read Maeve Binchy, I picked it up strictly as the result of a book friends recommendation. It is a long book and took me a while, but I was glad I read it. The author seems to write in another dialect (maybe Irish, where the book takes place?). This kind of put me off a little. The story can go pretty slow at times, but still makes you want to see what happens at the end. It has many characters and they are all colorful in their way. Might make a good vacation beach read.
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE! Review: This is easily the best book I have ever read, you become one with the characters. You start to feel their pain and joy. I absolutely love this book, I could not put it down. Every woman should read this book it opens up your eyes to the people around you and makes you wonder what their true intentions in your life are.
Rating: Summary: Hearts mended on Tara Road Review: Maeve Binchy has outdone herself with Tara Road. The relationships between the various women that Ria meets and befriends would warm the heart of a snowman, if only a snowman could read. Although I am a 37 year old Icelandic man and my mother is a 92 year old Parisian we both loved this book and it brought us closer as we bonded over our fondness for the characters, including Renee LacRoix, that devilish rascal. In closing I have to say that this is one of those rare novels that you don't want to end. By the time Ria's nieces threw a surprise party for her in the backyard of Nanna's house I felt as if I knew and loved these people. Binchy's writing has improved over the years and her prose now sings like a seagull coasting over a fish filled lake.
Rating: Summary: Did not like this book. Review: I did not like this book. I didn't care for the characters and forced myself to read on telling myself it would get better, that there might be something worth reading. It did not.
Rating: Summary: Quick, Lively, Entertaining Review: Thoughly enjoyed this book. It gets you involved and on the phone to your friends to debate: "Can one woman be so stupid?" Still as a woman you end up rooting for her. I've read with amusement some other reviews who citicize the flaws and what they percieve as a lack of literary depth and finesse. Ok, so its not perfect but it still gets five stars for enjoyment. Especially since other more perfectly crafted literay works are often quite dull. This one won't make you think you could be doing something better with your time- you'll be glued to it from start to finish!
