Rating: Summary: Im not a writer or a critic I do enjoy quilting and reading Review: The Quilters Apprentice was promoted by the media just after I returned from my third annual Quilt Retreat! I enjoyed it. It seemed as if it could be true history and not a novel, some American history and Quilt history, and even some Old Wives Tales about quilt block! The log cabin hits home! I had comleted one for my daughter last year, I had forgotten the meaning of the yellow and black cornerstones but I did remember the red! I could not put the book down. This book was well written and pulled on my heart strings! Thank you Jennifer
Rating: Summary: A rich, vibrant novel by a talented new writer Review: Jennifer Chiaverini has crafted a beautiful, moving novel with The Quilter's Apprentice. Like the quilts and settings she describes, this is a rich, involving story, full of memorable characters - especially master quilter Sylivia Compson. As seen through her eyes during a series of stories told to young Sarah McClure, Sylvia's family becomes remarkably and sometimes heartbreakingly real. You will care about the lives of these characters. An enjoyable, satisfying book from beginning to end. Very highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: A feel good, makes you happy book! Review: My friend suggested this book to me and I'm thankful. Being a quilter, I loved how the blocks and the stories went together. I can relate to the two characters in the story. I hope we hear more about the Tangled Web Quilters!
Rating: Summary: A book quilters will enjoy Review: Plot was okay, but characters lacked development and weren't always realistic and consistent. Plot had some very obvious flaws. I personally enjoyed The Persian Pickle Club much more.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: This was one of those books that I just couldn't put down one I started getting into it. I've tried my hand at quilting, but gave up before I could accomplish anything. This book has not only inspired me to return to what I started but to also try and contact people to share it with. The character situations in the book will be familiar to anyone who has relocated away from friends and family. I was almost disappointed to learn that this is Mrs. Chiaverini's first book, I was hoping to read more by her right away. I look forward to the next book.
Rating: Summary: Quite Satisfying Review: As a quilter, I loved this book. I was not ready to part with the characters. I especially enjoyed the parallels of the chapters unfolding to the sampler quilt block chosen. My only criticism was that the ending was wrapped up just a little too perfectly for my taste. I hope to be able to visit with the Tangled Web Quilters again.
Rating: Summary: Great book!!!! Review: I would rather quilt than read a book. BUT...This book has kept me wanting the read the next page. GREAT BOOK!!!!
Rating: Summary: A total delight, grabs you from the very beginning Review: I have only finished the first two chapters and I am so engrossed, I can't put it down, I am delighted
Rating: Summary: Reminds us to mend our own families as well as our quilts Review: Jennifer Chiaverini has reached into an essential part of family relationships with her novel, The Quilter's Apprentice. Using the quilt as a metaphor for learning the skills of keeping a family whole, she reminds us to mend our own families as well as our quilts. Those in the quilt world will relish the care taken in her pattern selections and laugh in recognition at the members of the bee. However, this books reads well for anyone who enjoys a good story about families, and the joys and sorrows contained therein. I especially liked the suggestion that families are not always made of flesh and blood, but the ties of friendship and caring as well. This is a book to be read and passed on to those you love and those with whom you could "do a little mending". I eagerly await her next book!
Rating: Summary: An enjoyable read for both quilters and non-quilters Review: Once I began reading, I didn't want to put it down. Although the story is well-written and flows nicely, the characters could show more depth.
