Rating: Summary: Great book for anyone into quilting. Review: This is a great book which reminds me of Fried Green Tomatos in the way it was written only it centers on quilting. It is a must for anyone who quilts. This book is very heart warming and you'll love Sarah and Sylvia and the stories Sylvia has to tell about her former life. Sarah and her quilting friends are so true to life that you feel you are a part of their quilting guild. It is a book I will recommend to all my friends.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book! Loved it! Write More!! Review: She had you sewed in from the start. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. I read and read until I was done and the weekend was over. Great Book!! Please Write more! From a Quilter and Mother
Rating: Summary: What a delightful book! Review: It's been a long time since I've read a book that has had as much warmth and heart as "The Quilter's Apprentice." You'll remember these characters long after you finish the last page. I can't believe this is a first novel. Why haven't we heard more about this talented author? Note to the author: write another book quick!
Rating: Summary: The Quilter's Apprentice is a wonderful read. Review: I read Jennifer Chiaverini's book and it is wonderful! I loved it. She is a great writer. She really kept my interest. I finished the book in three days. I had to keep reading to know what happened. Thanks.
Rating: Summary: A very nice, light read Review: I enjoyed this book and read it quickly, but I would consider this an "easy" read - one that you could pick up and put down without any trouble. I found Mrs. Compson to be the most interesting character - Sarah was really sort of a dork. And while I am all for happy endings, this one seemed to "wrap up" too nicely, like a TV Christmas special or something. I think there could have been a great novel in this - all the parts are there, and using the quilt blocks to tell the stories was a wonderful device. I would like to read a sequel that went into more depth with the relationships between the other quilters as they create their new business venture.I've read a lot of long books that should have been much shorter, but this was definitely a short book that should have been longer and deeper.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous beginning with good descriptions of blocks Review: I really enjoyed the book. I had to go out and buy fabric to start a hand pieced quilt. I could picture the first few blocks but as I read more the less I could picture them because the descriptions were not as specific. I would have liked to see the finished quilt as the endpapers. Apart from this I think I will have to go and buy the book (the copy I read was from the library I work at) so that I can read it again and again. I hope she writes another book soon.
Rating: Summary: A fine first novel about quilting and relationships Review: Quilting plays a strong role in this novel, and serves also as a metaphor for the human need to build links, to form a community out of mutual concerns and interests. In the end, the book is about friendship and family - the links that tie us together and help us get through life. A very good read, only flawed by being too short.
Rating: Summary: A fun read for all quilters. Review: If you have just begin to quilt or have been quilting for many years you will relate to one of the characters in this book. Hope Jennifer has more of this type of book up her sleeve.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful book that deserves support from quilters Review: This is one of those books that sneaks up on you and makes you want to read it again and again. I've read it four times already. The characters are wonderful, and the plot is interesting. I think this book should be purchased for everyone who is even slightly interested in quilting.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully written "can't put down until finished" book Review: This book is not only for the quilting enthusiast but also for anyone who's experienced family conflicts. Quilters will especially identify with the quilting group depicted and others will understand the family conflict and turmoil. The book contained wonderful characters which I could fully visualize standing around me as I read. What more can I say, except "when's the next one coming?" I definitely want to read more about these characters and I hope the author includes more quilt blocks as a bonus.
