Rating: Summary: The Quilter's Apprentice: A Novel Review: Although this book was rated well by other readers and quilters, I found it to be only a 'nice story' written at the level of middle-school readers. I kept waiting for the story content to have some depth and hoped that the conversations would be more meaningful, but that didn't happen. Since I was so disappointed with the book, I couldn't recommend it to any of my quilting friends. I donated it to the local library with a note that it was for those who read at the 6th to 8th grade level.
Rating: Summary: A warm, thoughtful story Review: As an avid reader, I found this to be a refreshing and delightful story about two women finding a common bond; reaching out to each other when both were experiencing self-doubt, loneliness and insecurity. As an avid quilter, I found that aspect immensely interesting, as Sarah learned the various techniques. Though it seemed to start slowly, I soon became warmly wrapped in the tale, and was sad to see it end, as well as wishing I could join the Tangled Web group. A fine first novel.
Rating: Summary: A special book that goes right to the heart of the quilter. Review: I began reading this book and literally did not want to put the book down. I would highly recommend this to anyone. I cant wait until Jennifers next book.
Rating: Summary: It was a wonderful, refreshing book. Review: This book is a great one to share with family and friends. It is relaxing and easy to read.
Rating: Summary: warmhearted, well-written Review: A lovely story told lovingly. This first-time novelist has a future
Rating: Summary: Good subject, weak plot. Review: Although I love quilts and quilting, I found this novel to be shallow and predictable. I almost felt like I had picked up something my middle-school daughter might read--flat characters and obvious plot turns.
Rating: Summary: Good read Review: I just finished this book, and I loved it. I would recommend to anyone who is interested in quilting, and even if you aren't, the story is still wonderful to read. I can't wait to read the sequel!
Rating: Summary: quilter's delight Review: The historic mysteries added depth to the book, besides the stories of the different quilt patterns. As a new quilter myself, in a new town, I could relate to making friends with the wonderful quilt shop buddies. Couldn't put the book down. Am inspired to finish my first quilt, like Sarah.
Rating: Summary: This story is a pleasure trove of tantalizing information. Review: It brings to the forefront the difficult art of quilting and makes the prices of handmade quilts a bargain. I loved that I've found someone who could write a story without gutter language and vivid sex and or gore scenes. It excited me and with each page I read, brought to mind my good friend, Deena, who is a quilter. I now understand her feelings for quilting even more than I did before. The Quilter's Apprentice teases me into feelings of wanting to make a quilt of my own.
Rating: Summary: Good for people who have abandoned their "roots." Review: A book about a young woman who in helping an older lady, finds she is helping herself and her husband. The descriptions of the quilting lessons and quilt guild meetings make me wish I lived in that town. I love to quilt and I love the camaraderie that goes with a bunch of women sitting and sewing. This book is a keeper. I borrowed it from the library but may have to buy my own copy, to read when I feel the need.
