Summary: not bad ,but not that good either!
Review: I discovered this author when I found the book "Watermelon" Then I read "Rachel's Holiday" These books were great, I mean really great. Now on to this one. There are over 400 pages and after about 150 of them I knew what the outcome had to be but I read it anyway. This one's pretty boring even for Keyes. It's readable but I cannot recommend it. I would not give this one to a friend. But read the other two.

Summary: I Love Lucy (and Marian Keyes)
Review: "Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married" seems to be on the same track as most of the Brit chick genre but she delves deeper into the fact that she suffers from actual clinical depression. Not to mention low self-esteem (but so do most of these Brit chicks.) Hats off to her having a job in a field other than journalism!

Lucy and some officemates visit a psychic who foretells futures for them, Lucy's prediction being she will get married within 18 months. Everyone else's fortune comes true rather quickly and accurately, so when Lucy meets Gus at a party, everyone is sure it is her turn.

Gus is a puzzle -- they date for 5 months and he never tells Lucy where he lives. He disappears for 3 weeks at one time. There are warning signals all over that one but Lucy just ignores them. Her blonde busty roommate Karen is all over Lucy's friend Daniel and when they start dating, Lucy's friendship with Daniel disintegrates.

I do have a complaint that there are too many characters here ---Lucy's officemates figure prominently for a bit then disappear for 100 pages. She has the requisite flamboyant gay friend Dennis but he only really figures in for a bit of girltalk when she first starts dating Gus --- then he is hardly ever there. I had to double check if I had confused the name 'Dennis' with 'Daniel' because Keyes had mentioned HIM so much but I knew his character wasn't gay. There is also the issue of Lucy's parents, but again, her interactions with them are few and far-between, and you forget there is a storyline going on there until nearly the end. Then it is all-consuming -- but then the storyline with Gus seems to have been dropped!

All in all, though, it's a fun read for when you just want to enjoy yourself.

Summary: I want to STRANGLE Lucy Sullivan!!
Review: I love a good, predictable single Brit gal book. As a matter of fact I live for them! But this one left something to be desired. Lucy Sullivan is miserable and annoying. Nobody could possibly be as stupid as she is - from letting her friends control her to not realizing her father is an alcoholic and dating a lunatic drunk. Gus, who she winds up dating throughout the book, is completely over the top. Lots of us have gotten ourselves into relationships with men who don't treat us well, but nobody would put up with that. And there is no way a nice, responsible, handsome man like Daniel would ever see anything in someone like Lucy, who treats him horribly and is happy being miserable. Unless there's something wrong with him underneath it all too.

This book was also way too long and redundant. I felt like the conversations with crazy Gus went on for HOURS. And I felt like I'd scream if Lucy mentioned one more time how NOT attracted to Daniel she was.

I've read worse, and like I said, I love a Brit chick book, so I'll give it 3 stars. But Marian Keyes can do much better. Skip this one and pick up Last Chance Saloon!!

Summary: A comic tale of friendship and romance.
Review: This book started a little bit slow but picked up pace and I found myself giggling on a number of occasions. This book may make you look at your friends in a different light. If you want a Bridget Jones-esque story with more laughs and fewer complaints, then this is the book for you! On my next trip to the bookstore I found myself browsing other Keyes titles to read. I am sure she will not disappoint.

Summary: I wanted to give Lucy a big hug!
Review: When I think about it, I really don't understand why I loved this book so much. I was constantly wishing Lucy Sullivan was a real person so I could grab her by the shoulders, start shaking her and scream, "What are you thinking?!" Her self-confidence is so low that she allows her friends, her family and her men to walk all over her, and I sincerely hope that there aren't too many women like her out there. But I could not put this book down! I think part of it is that Marian Keyes does such a great job of establishing the characters, you feel like Lucy is one of your dearest friends and you want to finish the book to make sure she's OK.

At least through all her emotional turmoil, Lucy keeps a great sense of humor-- this book definitely kept me laughing. Not as funny as Bridget Jones, but very close. Yes, the ending is very predictable, but if you're looking for a light, fun read that doesn't require you to think very hard, this is the one.

Summary: Lucy Sullivan is entertaining!
Review: The book is very good and entertaining. There is a section of the book that I consider a speed bump, and once you read it, you'll know you've hit it. At any rate, once over the speed bump, you are rewarded with a smoothly paved road (pardon the analogy).

Summary: Another first!
Review: Marian Keyes is absolutely wonderful! This book is funny, but it has serious moments as well! Also, Lucy is character that most single girls can relate to. She's unsure, she makes misakes, and she wants to live happily ever after. I read this book in about three hours because not only was I enthalled by the storyline, but Keyes has a fun, casual style. I'm looking forward to more books from this talented author!

Summary: Great book
Review: I really like marian Keyes way of writing. She always manages to tell a story that somehow gets you thinking about your own inner self. Lucy was a realistic character. As the book progresses, you come to understand some of the things about her that didn't make sense at first. You really come to care about her too. There were parts that could have been edited a bit more, so the book was a bit longer than it had to be. But all in all, I truely enjoyed the book.

Summary: Boring!
Review: I really enjoyed Rachel's Holiday and can't wait to read Last Chance Saloon, but Lucy Sullivan was a chore to get through. Unmemorable is one word I'd use. Yet, the way Marian Keynes treats Irish people and their perceptions via Lucy and her family is really endearing and actually enjoyable. Maybe that's why I stuck it out til the end. If you can't find something else to read, this won't hurt for lying on the beach, but don't expect much more.

Summary: Happy Brain Holiday
Review: This was a nice Brain Holiday book. This is not a book I would normally read, but was told it was quite funny when a waitress told me my fiance reminded her of a Gus in this book. So I bought it. I camped on the couch, turn my brain off, and read all 600+ pages in a couple of days. Happily aside from being unique, he is nothing like Gus (the fiance). Point being, the book is fun. It is an easy read and a page turner. No, the characters are not deep bright people. They are sterotypes of people you know. This limited development is meant to be fun. Not much more. It will not change your life, but guys it IS fun!Next time you want to take a break from purpose, this will make a good read.
