Rating: Summary: A Fun Summer Read for the early twenty-something Review: This story was your typical Marian Keyes, funny, witty, warm, and a quick and easy read. The characters always grab me. I end up caring about them even when I think they are dumb and in denial. The plot is rather obvious, but it doesn't detract from the original and sometimes lyrical turns of phrase of Marian Keyes. If you're looking for a nice easy read to escape to this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Lucy is getting married!! Good book... Review: At first, it was a bit slow but once I got into the novel, I couldn't put it down. Lucy's encounters with several lackluster men are hillarious and in the end she finally gets what she deserves! This one was great.
Rating: Summary: Ho hum... Review: Aside from the glaring obvious of who Lucy should & would end up with in the end - I enjoyed the book. Much more so than Bridget Jones... at least Lucy wasn't so incredibly weight obsessed to count calories & weigh herself every morning. A fun read & I'll be reading more of Keyes work.
Rating: Summary: Lucy is Great Review: "Lucy Sullivan is getting married" by Marian Keyes is a great book! Ms. Keyes gives the reader a great plot, characters that reader wants to read more about and most of all she deals with real life and not some fantasy life that is found in many "Chick-Lit" books that you see today. This is a great book for summertime or anytime.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: Common themes in Marian Keyes' books are depression and denial. This book, with its funny story and cute extra characters is first and foremost about a young woman's struggle with depression. The author must have been depressed at some time herself to be able to write about it with such clarity and humor at the same time.
Rating: Summary: If you want a feel good book, that's not typical... Review: Lucy is a great character!!! She is not a good girl, and falls for the worst type of men! They are sexy, sexy, sexy, and broke! Just when you think her life is just like yours, the sun shines through, and she finds who she belongs with. This is not sappy or predictable, and you root for Lucy the whole way through! The story makes it seem like it can happen to you.
Rating: Summary: I don't care what Lucy Sulilvan does! Review: The book begins with Lucy explaining that she dumped a man who loved and cared for her--becuase he was "stiffling." The author has created a character that doesn't love herself and is truly sabotaging her own life. She's a miserable person and I have no interest in reading about miserable people. When good things happen she can't be happy, when bad things happen she says "of course!" Why would I care one bit about this character??
Rating: Summary: Did not appeal on many levels Review: Typically I love chic lit books, and, when I lived in England, I developed an appreciation for many British romance novelists. So I was looking forward to the arrival of this book, but I ended up hating it. I had to dredge through it, and I actually continued to read it only to see what I would hate next. I don't remember all the things that annoyed men, but I do remember one in particular. There's an American guy whom Lucy goes on a date with. He is portrayed as having every stereotypically bad American image. His character just seemed so unrealistic, and what's the point of putting in a character that's so terrible? We all know that Lucy couldn't possibly fall for him. Still, I felt insulted that an American was portrayed as such an awful character.
Rating: Summary: There are Better Keyes to Read Review: This was the second Keyes book I have read (the first: RACHEL'S HOLIDAY). I found it very predictable and one of her boyfriend's was extremely irratating... so irratating in fact I wondered if I could actually trudge through and finish the [bulky] book. Lucy overall is a likable character, but if she were my friend I'd dope slap her silly. RECOMMEND: Rachel's Holiday over this.
Rating: Summary: I loved Lucy Review: I really enjoy Marian Keyes books and this one was no exception. This book can be related to by many onlookers who have gone through certain situations similar to Lucy's such as bad boyfriends, dysfunctional families and the like. You do not want the book to end. I wish she would hurry and write a sequel. Although the ending was obvious, you were thankful it ended up the way it did. I think Marian Keyes did in excellent job with capturing the low self esteem that women can have consequently choosing awful, abusive boyfriends because of it.
