Summary: Paula: Illustrated Emotion
Review: Allende outdoes all her previous work with Paula. Never have I experienced such emotion within myself while reading a novel, actually sobbing outloud! There is so much of Allende's heart and soul in writing her own life story. Her life is so incredibly fascinating and her love for her daughter so moving, the combination of these two elements makes for an incredible book! By far my very favorite author!

Summary: Fenomenal

Summary: To Appreciate life/love and family
Review: The sadness in my eyes/ the power of love I felt by reading each and every word.I have read the book in my own language which is Persian(Farsi)and since I have experienced similar things, reading this book made me conected with the author.I have recommended Poula to every one I know since it is one of the best books I have ever read. Allende knows how to paint real picturs of life with her fingers. As Omar Khayyam of Iran(Persia) says: Up from Earth's centre through the Seventh Gate I rose, and on the Throne of Saturn sate. And many Knots unravel'd by the Road; But not the Knot of Human Death and Fate. There was a Door to which I found no Key: There was a Veil past which I coild not see; Some little Talk awhile Of me and Thee there seemed and then no more of thee and me. Then to the rolling Heav'n itself I cried, Asking "what Lamp had.Destiny to guid" Her Little Children stumbling in the dark?" And -"A blind Understanding!"Heav'n replied. Then to this earthen Bowl I did I adjourn My lip the secret Well of Life to learn: And Lip To Lip it Murmure'd-"While you live "Drink!- For once dead you never shall return." Eventhough ot is not a poem of mine, I write it to houner your beautiful work and the pain you went trough and to all the mothers-and my mother-and all the mothers who choosed to live in exile or have lost their children.

Summary: Conmovedora autobiografia

A MUST HAVE NOVEL.

Summary: deeply moving
Review: A beautifully written (and translated)book. I was deeply moved. But in the end I found Ms. Allende too self absorbed and self centered in her pain. She did not show any consideration for those around her, who suffered also.

Summary: Paula is truly an incredible novel everyone should read!!!!
Review: I read Paula in the original Spanish, and it was truly one of the best books I have ever read. I have highly recomended it to every mother and daughter I know. I read this book once as required reading for my Spanish class, once for entertainment, and once with my mother. This book strongly portrays the unique mother/daughter bond and how it is affected when one is so violently ill as Paula was. I would read and the tears would be rolling constantly down my face and often fall on the book. Reading Paula was something very spacial and made me realize the importance of family, it especially made me realize how important my sister and my mother are to me. I invite everyone to read this beautiful work of modern Spanish literature, or any of Isabel Allende's other incredible novels (if you can, it is better in the original Spanish). I cannot wait untill Isabel wins the Nobel Prize, she is a brilliant novelist.

Summary: A book for laugh and cry
Review: I think that this is the best book of Isabel Allende. For moments you don't know if the story is real or fiction, and makes you think about death and love.

He leído el libro tres veces y cada una me ha hecho reir y llorar. Excelente libro.

You have to read it.

Summary: a beautiful book.......
Review: In general, I adore Allende's work, and once again she came through. The book is touching and very well-written. Although she changes style toward the end of the book, the reasoning behind the change is obvious and she executes it well. I read it from cover to cover without putting it down, and it was a real tear-jerker!

Summary: A tantalizing read!
Review: I enjoyed this book thoroughly. I read it in just over one night and saved the last three pages for the next day because I didn't want it to end. I was first turned on to Ms. Allende about five years ago when a clerk at a video store recommended "House of Spirits". My family was very touched by this movie. Thank you for writing about your life and the other miraculous thoughts and stories that come into your head.

Summary: "Paula" is a fun and interesting read!
Review: I did not expect to enjoy "Paula" when my English teacher described it as a book full of little stories about the author's life and family. Adding in the fact that it was translated from Spanish, I assumed that I had a long and unenjoyable assignment to complete. But my assumptions were wrong. The translation is wonderful - the writing is smoother that many books first written in English. And the beginning, with funny little anecdotes concerning various family members is very entertaining. Later the book shifts over to focus on Isabel's life, but I didn't mind. I enjoyed wondering what she would do next, from writing in a feminist's magazine, to enlisting superstitious cleaning rituals in order to make a failing business succeed. When I was finished, I was only dissapointed that it had to end - I hope Allende will update us in a few years! I would recommend this to anyone that wants to read about a family and life so funny and interesting it almost belongs in a novel.
