Summary: what is all the fuss about?
Review: People seem to love this book - I do not know why. I bought Watermelon at a regular bookstore, so I have no excuse not to have perused the contents prior to making the purchase. I tried valiantly to finish this book - but few things have struck me as such a waste of time. I had removed the price tag when I began reading, by soon found myself finding the discarded piece of sticker, unfolding it and sticking it back on the book in an attempt to return it to where I purchased it. Alas, I neglected to do that in a timely manner, and now am just an embarrassed owner of this book...I will never finish it - but will always be reminded of the foolishness of buying a book based on the concept and raves of everyone around me - or maybe it was just the clever product placement. To be fair to the author I think it would make a better stand-up comedy routine than a novel.

Summary: Maybe I am just different but...
Review: I bought this book based on the glowing reviews I saw on Amazon. I expected a wildly funny book. I don't get it. I thought the book was slighly humorous but mostly very dull. I finished it because I try to always finish the books I start, but it was really not very good. It is written first person with conversations with the heroine's subconscious. Some aspects were cute. But the characters were just weird and the overall story was not very good. It was a let down after the reviews. After reading Watermelon I would certainly not read any other books by Marian Keyes.

Summary: Entertaining...
Review: "Watermelon" by Marion Keyes is a most entertaining story. A sad (but also at times) funny tale dealing with the frustrations of life and love.

The characters are easy to connect with, the dialogue moves right along and the plot as I said before is most entertaining.

A wonderful effort on the part of the writer!

Summary: THE FUNNIEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ
Review: Watermelon is SO FUNNY. I first read this book about 6 months ago. It has since made its rounds through friends and family (at this date about 10 people have read it). Everyone LOVES this book. Claire and her quirky family are all incredible, unforgetable characters. Highly recommended!

Summary: Awesome Book!
Review: This is the best book I have read in a long time! This was my first Marian Keyes' experience, and I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of her books. Keyes' writing style is wonderful...this book will touch all your emotions.

The main character, Claire, is very likeable...I felt like she was a close friend. We can all relate to her in someway, and also look up to her determination to move on her with life after her husband leaves her and their newborn daughter.

I highly recommend this book...you will not be able to put it down!

Summary: My favorite book!
Review: You would be a fool not to read this book...Keyes hits the humor and the voice head on, and the result is a hysterical, well structured book! Move over Bridget Jones- Keyes is a hit!

Summary: Marian Keyes Excels With Biting Humor and Great Characters
Review: Having already read LAST CHANCE SALOON and LUCY SULLIVAN IS GETTING MARRIED, I continue to be thrilled at the biting edge of dark humor Marian Keyes brings to chick lit. She lifts these books up from a banal girl-looking-for-guy novel and gives then something more, namely unforgettable characters the reader truly comes to care about.

Who could be more vulnerable than Claire whose husband James tells her on the day she gives birth to their first-born that he is leaving her for another woman in their apartment building? Thus begins Claire's often sad, often comical, but always interesting saga. She grabs her newborn and flies from London to the safe harbor of her parents home in Dublin. There we meet her hilarious mother and father as well as two of her four sisters: the self-involved Helen and the lovably flakey Anna. (Guess Rachel was busy starring in RACHEL'S HOLDIAY and MAGGIE was caught up in her story as told in ANGELS.) The Walsh family is not a model family, but it is one that you'll love being a part of --- the fights, the squabbles, the sisterly ritual of stealing clothes from one another, the tension amidst the camaraderie, the freezer with frozen food and the mother's aversion to home-cooked meals---all make Claire's stay less than peaceful.

Will she ever come to terms with what has happened to her? Can she pull herself up from her quagmire of despair over losing James? Can she be a fit and loving mother to Kate? Will she stop toying with the idea of stealing her sister's boyfriend and just go ahead and do it? Will Claire come to her senses and tell James off for good or will she go back to him?

Claire will steal your heart as her easy, conversational tone speaks to you just as she would to her best friend, in a breezy, self-deprecating style that keeps you eagerly turning the pages.

Summary: British Comedy at its best
Review: Claire's husband James has just left her for another woman. Claire is left stunned and humiliated and now has the responsibility of raising her newborn child by herself. She leaves London for Dublin to stay with her family. A new man, the beautiful Adam, enters her life and James tries to weasel his way in. "Watermelon" is funny, witty, emotional and touching. You'll laugh, you'll cry and you will cheer for Claire! Keyes cleverly takes the reader through the emotional stages of breakup: Denial, Despair, Anger, Nostalgia and Acceptance. There are a few minor details in this novel that conflict with each other and some circumstances seem too good to be true, yet this book is a wonderful example of good British comedy. If you liked Bridget Jones' Diary (Fielding) you will most assuredly enjoy Marian Keyes "Watermelon".

Summary: Hilarious romp, from start to finish!
Review: Meet Claire Webster, a happily married Londoner with a brand new baby girl. Unfortunately, her husband James isn't so happy and he dumps her...on the very same day Claire gives birth. Shell-shocked and broken-hearted, Claire flees to her parents home in Dublin....... Marian Keyes takes a terrible set of circumstances and turns them into a hilarious romp, from start to finish. I loved it and I think you will too!
