Rating: Summary: I laughed, I cried, then I laughed some more! Review: Probably my favorite Marian Keyes novel. I've read every one of them. You can't help but love the characters, faults and all. The dysfunctional family in this book is hilarious. I couldn't get enough of this book. In fact, I've read it three times.
Claire finds herself living in her parents home again, shortly after giving birth and her husband leaving her. You'll be cheering her along as she pulls her life back together. And all the while you're hoping the wretched ex-hubby gets his just dessert.
Rating: Summary: It was fun! Review: I gave it three stars, simply because I didn't think it really stood out. It was a quick lighthearted beach read, and while predictable it did have it's moments. I laughed, and even though I kind of figured the way the book would end up, I was happy when our heroine found what she wanted. I think I will give another of the author's books a shot.
Rating: Summary: Great Beach Book Review: This book is very funny. I really enjoyed it. It was a light read and entertaining - perfect for summer. I did find the fact that he left her right after she delivered and his blatant lack of interest in their daughter TOTALLY infuriating. Claire seemed to focus more on the fact that he left her and not as much on the manner in which he left her. For those of you with kids - can you even imagine being left hours after you deliver?
Rating: Summary: A Fun, Light-Hearted Read Review: "Watermelon" is yet another enjoyable book by Marian Keyes. Her characters are always memorable, her writing style draws you in on the first page and the conclusion is very satisfying. At the start of the book, the lovely Claire has been dumped by her husband for another woman a few hours after giving birth to their first child. She moves from their home in London back to her eccentric family in Dublin. Of course, all sorts of adventures, several romantic, ensue. Keyes creates not only a strong, lively narrative voice--Claire is very funny, even her most desperate moments--but some great supporting characters. There is the hunky Adam, the snitty sister Helen, the flaky sister Anna, the slightly detached father and so on. Yes these characters hail from central casting but they are presented with a light and fresh touch. I recommend this book to chick lit fans everywhere, particularly those who love their light lit with an English/Irish touch.
Rating: Summary: Read it again! Review: I am not a person to see a movie or read a book more than once. I love this book. LOVE IT. Will read it at least three times, and for me, that's pretty drastic.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I have to say I bought this book with great expectations - maybe this was the reason for my big disappointment. I've watched a TV series based on Keyes' book Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married and enjoyed it so much that I was sure her other books would be funny/interesting as well. But this book was boring. It took me about 3 months to finish it, and I started reading a different book while still reading it, because it was too boring for me. Only a director with a lot of imagination could turn it into a lovely TV series...
