Summary: one of the BEST books ever!
Review: i LOVED this book! i was browsing thru barnes & nobles one day and came across this book. the cover is what caught my eye first. i read the back and decided it was worth trying-i LOVE reading and am always onthe lookout for fabulous reads. i picked it up and didn't want to put it down once i got started. this is by far one of the BEST books i have ever read. marian keyes writes in such a way that i was able to easily get into the characters emotions. i laughed out loud several times, one time to the point i had tears-which hardly ever happens. i finished the book in the span of 4 hours. some of the scenes are uproariously hilarious and i enjoyed the way the book was in first person. it makes you more able to get into the feelings of the person. funny, tender, sad, and a bit triumphant for those of us who go through losing a significant other to someone else. the book is in all a fabulous read! i can certainly sympathise with what claire goes through. her support network of family and friends are, themselves, a little off the wall sometimes, but isn't that what real life is in the first place? i wish they would get her books over to america faster. we are just now (aug 1999) getting lucy sullivan got married-in hardcover. those are the only two books of hers that we have over here. what's the hold up?

Summary: IT IS SOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!!!!
Review: You HAVE to read this book, it is so unputdownable, and FUNNY I have never read a book that makes me laugh so much! Claire is so heartbreakingly honest and lovable at the same time. Keyes is a brilliant writer, I love her!

Summary: A feel good story that will make anyone laugh out loud!
Review: The slightly neurotic main character Claire is someone every woman I know can relate to. Her personal problems and quirky personality make her completely lovable. I couldn't put the book down. Even though the end of the book was semi-predictable and sugar coated....I LOVED IT!! If you want a great summer time read that will leave you feeling refreshed, "Watermelon" is exactly what you need!

Summary: A great, fun read for the summer...
Review: Marian Keyes is a brilliant writer! Watermelon is such good fun, and at times I was even laughing out loud at Claire's comments. I would highly recommend this book if you're looking for an engaging, witty and entertaining read.

Summary: What a great read...
Review: I too read this in one night... it was fabulous. Yes, I think that if I were the protagonist, I would have clued in on how the ex-husband was treating me, but this is about Claire, not me.

The author's writing style is a HOOT! In this book she writes as if she's talking to a great chum. What I got a particular kick out of was how she attributed conversations and personalities to inanimate objects, such as clothing. I had to read some passages aloud to my husband!

I'm really looking forward to Ms. Keyes' next novel.

Summary: I was hooked!!!!!
Review: "February the fifteenth is a very special day for me. It is the day I gave birth to my first child". Upon reading these first lines in "Watermelon", I was hooked!!!! The reason being that February the fifteenth is also the day that I gave birth to my first child!!!

I feel in love with the book and couldn't put it down. Marian Keyes was able to portray a pretty sad situation in an extremely humourous and witty manner. All of Claire's emotions, trials and tibulations are so real and expressed in such candor that you can't help but identify with her totally. I found myself laughing outloud at 3 A.M. in the morning, waking my husband, and having him tell me, "Go to sleep already!!!". But "Waremelon" is just such a gift to every women who has ever been wronged, who has every been made to feel inadequate, who has ever had the guts to pick up the pieces and become whole once again.

Thank you Maian Keyes. I wish I would have had this book near me 7 years ago when I went through my divorce from my first husband. He, just like James, was a professional manipulator. And I, like Claire, are both survivors and no longer feel like "watermelons"!!!!!!

Summary: Great summer all-nighter!
Review: I bought this book while on a business trip to San Francisco. While I should have been working, I was glued to what happened to our characters next. Although this is not a literary giant, it is that kind of book that you can't stop reading, where you want to know what happened to our characters next. I like the author's down-to-earth style - she describes the idiocy of how we act when we're dumped in such detail that it makes me laugh at the realism. Probably a "chick book".

Summary: What a great book!
Review: I finished this book in one day. When I'd put it down, I couldn't wait to get back to Claire and her life. I really felt like part of the book--the way it's written is great. I laughed along with the main character (and cried too!) I'm eagerly awaiting her new novel Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married. Sounds good! (By the way-Crown Books sells it cheap!!)

Summary: Addictive Fun
Review: Great fun. I couldn't stop until I finished in one late night marathon reading session. Even now the characters are still carrying on their futures in my imagination. The quintessential lazy summer read -- granted at times predictable but always engaginging and witty. The only problem -- now I want more. And since Marian Keyes' other books aren't readily available in US bookstores or libraries yet I'm forced to actually consider paying hardcover prices to have paperback copies shipped over from the UK. .the fact that I'm even considering this speaks volumes of her entertaining story. Can't wait to read more about the quirky sisters.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good summer read!
Review: I really liked the main character in this book--flaws and all. It's a very playful story that went too quickly.
